They all reset level to 1, with the exception of Bord’s, who, since it’s not technically a promotion but a class change to a different T1 class, gets his level set to 5. I think in the current patch, there’s a bug where if he’s at max level, he gets stuck at - - EXP and cannot gain any more. I’m working on tuning up some things and will eventually release a patch that should fix this, along with other things.
how is there no casual mode?
Because that was how I intended the game to be played. Archanea is kind of built around permadeath to begin with.
Finished the hack just now! Very interesting takes on the gameplay & changes. Honestly a pretty fun hack.
There are a few minor things i noticed / would change, though you obv dont have to, just felt like mentioning them in case you do feel like fixing some of these.
Elice’s Growths are weird in Prologue
Siege misspelled in a Chapters Name
Midia has one-way supports with some of the prison squad (is this intentional? Idk felt like mentioning it)
Hauteclere misspelled as Hautclere
Camus is honestly a bit too strong, atleast on Normal. Lowering his speed would probably make him less bullshit to deal with, given he onerounded like everyone of my units and i only made it past by using all 3 uses of the Geosphere
Occassional softlock with manakete firestone and thani animations at range though idk what you could do abt that
Slight graphical error in the wyvern and wolf portraits (probably related to mouth frame placement)
Meredith should probably be mentioned in Ch. 6 intro so you realize she’s there
Bugged healing AI in battle for altea though idk why that happens (they stood in front of the fort instead of moving on it)
Indicator that Michalis has 2 health bars, because one would naturally use all of their actions to kill the surrounding Enemies before him to get more EXP
Dismounted Caeda cant promote w/ Master Seal
Thanks, that’s really helpful actually!
Elice’s growths are weird in prologue because she’s using a different unit ID, the Elice that joins you in Ch24 is a different unit, technically.
The one-way support was definitely unintentional? That’s strange, I’ll have to double check support thresholds. Edit: Yeah, I think that was a hold over for when I was planning on having them all support with each other, and then realized I did NOT want to write all of those supports lol
I lowered Camus’ speed a little bit, you’re not the only one who mentioned him being a bit too strong. I want to be like “Camus is just Like That
” lol but yeah I should probably nerf him a little bit.
Unfortunately, yeah, I have no idea how to counteract the manakete firestone thing, except by locking them to one range. Could you tell me more about when the softlocks happened? Was it only when a unit was proccing great shield? That’s the only one that I’ve encountered. I also had no idea they froze with Thani animations.
You’re also not the only one who mentioned Meredith, was definitely going to add something with her at the beginning of that map.
Yeah I also don’t know why they do that. In one of the other hacks I’ve been working on that happened as well.
I’ll work on getting an indicator for Michalis’s second health bar and I’ll fix Caeda’s promotion thing. Thanks again!
Glad i could help!
As for the softlocks, i really have no idea either. The first time it happened was in the Star and Savior Map, where the top right Manakete attacked Macellan on 2 range, though im pretty sure he did not proc greatshield. The Thani softlock happened when i tried attacking Camus from 3-Range with Nyna.
Tbh i dont know if there is a way to fix them, given the fact they didnt happen every time (for the fire Dragon incident i just rewinded to earlier in the enemy phase and the softlock didnt happen) so i would probably chalk it up to some random, annoying bug.
Pretty sure that’s a leftover from the FE8 mechanics, assassins can use myrm-locked weapons
Wow simply wow! I just wanted to take the time to thank you for this amazing romhack, you seriously have cretated my favorite version of FE1 and probably one of my favorite games, the way in which you expanded the story and connected all of the chapter with little easter eggs and with the FE8 engine this is seriously awesome! I will be playing this game for the rest of my life, trully thank you are a genius and I really hope that you eventually tackle FE3/FE12 so that the saga can be completed and we can have the definitive version of Marth’s story, you guys rock!!!
Ok I just finished my first playthrough and I must say it was incredible the only recommendations that I would give in terms of gameplay: Camus is totally busted and needs to be nerfed as it stands out as one of the only unbalanced points gameplay wise, the balances apart from that are great, the thiefs have become obsolete and the emblem not being able to open chests do makes some chapters a little bit annoying but I understand the decision lore wise, getting more into the story I feel all the changes and additions were great and they actually made me want a few more like the Marth and Ceada moment at the beginning but I guess that the implementation of support conversations could help aliviate that, appart from that my biggest gripe with the whole game is the additional chapter at the end, even though gameplay wise it was great, story wise felt a little tacked on and sudden and kinda lore breaking which is why I believed that it should’ve been a secret ending under certain special requisites, as it made me want a lore accurate ending so much and I also appreciate the fanservice so I believe making it optional would make the game perfect. Oh yeah and I don’t know why but I was not feeling Marth’s portrait that much I can’t quite put my finger on it but it would’ve been great to have the Ok_dude portrait fron Shadow Dragon gba (might just be personal preference) and finally where is Malledus? I miss the old coot. That being said this is amazing I hope none of my comments will be taken negatively and I will be always thankfull for the great work!
Can someone please make real dismounted Cav class animations so that we can finally have hacks that use Dismount without it looking goofy?
I just finished the game, which I generally enjoyed a lot. It was much more fun to play than FE11!
There are still a few things that bothered me:
Difficulty
From the liberation of Archanea, the game becomes very easy; the enemies remained Tier 1 lv7 for several chapters while my units were approaching promotion. Around Altea, I started to get my first promotions, but despite a few Tier 2 enemies, my army easily crushed the opponent. It wasn’t until Grust that the enemies started to become a little more challenging. I played on hard mode.
Promotion items
Some promotion items arrive very late (second Elysian Whip, third Guiding Ring, Fell Contract). I had characters stuck at level 20 for several chapters. Maybe you should only use Master Seals, that way the player has more freedom in their promotion choices.
Skills
Some characters have a lot of skills, while others have none. It’s very unbalanced.
Dark magic
You added Dark Magic, but you can only use Flux for the vast majority of the game… I imagine that’s why you gave Lumina to Meredith. I would have preferred more diversity in the Dark Magic tomes.
Bord
Regarding Bord, I like the idea of giving him Dark Magic, but as mentioned above, it’s not very interesting, and Bord’s reclass comes way too late. Are people really still using him in Chapter 18? I wish he had Dark Magic much earlier, and kept the axe. It would have made him more interesting.
S-rank weapons
As for S-rank weapons, I counted 2 swords, 2 spears, 1 axe, 2 bows, 1 white tome, 1 black tome, and no anima tomes. This distribution is very uneven, and what’s more, the white and black tomes aren’t very powerful compared to Aura, Thani, or Fenrir…
Dismounting
I understand the idea of dismounting, but I think it could be better managed. Why do the stats change when you mount or dismount? If Caeda has 28 in speed and dismounts from her Pegasus, she doesn’t gain any points. But when she mounts again, she loses 2 points and ends up at 26. The stats should be kept the same (apart from movement, of course) when you mount or dismount, or the maximums should be adjusted so that they follow the evolution of the stats, including in T1.
Luck cap
I’ve seen a few characters exceeding 30 points in luck, I don’t know if that’s intended. The luck gauge has a size indicating that the maximum is 30, though.
As I said, the game is very fun to play, but I think it needs some adjustments!
@darkjaden825698 replaying this game again and i still have the freeze when using Levin Sword 2 range with Marth animations on hitting double crit.
heyo been a while since i touched this, replaying it for the past couple of weeks to get a feel for this game again. i’ve run through the game on the regular route and then on minerva fuckin dies route so overall thoughts-ish below.
a buncha things i think are worth pointing out:
-
rangers still have unpromoted exp when dismounted. from what i can tell, the promoted flag is not set for the dismounted ranger class, so the game treats exp gain as unpromoted. i’m not sure if this is intentional or not by this point, since fixing this would be a pretty obvious nerf to wolf and sedgar - it does make using castor or pretty much almost any other archer kinda less appealing since dismounted wolfgar can still use swords which outright makes them better than gordin/castor permanently (e.g. on chapter 8 wolfgar can easily farm exp from EP’ing pirates with swords which gordin and castor literally cannot do)
-
nyna as a gameplay unit in the context of this game is either incredibly busted, or all the other mages are meh (but really i think it’s both). 12 mag 16 speed on join is huge when she barely joins like right after linde (level 1 mage) and boah (SD bases lmao) and straight up outclasses both by a significant margin (especially boah). i have practically not felt a need to use any other mage because nyna just joins at the perfect timing to do stuff, has weapon rank for everything except like bolting (oh look thoron tome in chapter 15 just to feed her anima wexp!!) and gets to use like basically every single relevant light/anima tome outside of aura and excalibur. meredith technically exists for dark access but when flux is like the only available dark tome for most of the game it’s a “yeah whatever idc” moment. nyna is also the perfect cheese against everybody’s favorite superboss camus because his AI will not target nyna period. speaking of camus…
-
this is fairly spoilery for the secret route so i’ve put it in spoiler bracket below:
camus
Camus on the kill Minerva route has his starting AI adjusted so that he will be able to attack Nyna on EP. however, there is also an event likely meant for the original route that changes his AI to aggressive (while not targetting Nyna) when approaching the castle area. this event is still active on the kill Minerva route and sets his AI1 to “don’t attack Nyna”, which means on the kill Minerva route version of this chapter what can happen is Camus will be aggressive and attack Nyna, but once Nyna approaches the castle he stops attacking Nyna and goes back to just stalking her without attacking.
given the context of this chapter on the kill Minerva route i am pretty sure this is very unlikely to be intended behavior hence raising this up.
-
this is partially related to the whole Nyna rant from earlier but Etzel seems incredibly shit to use despite having dark magic access that Nyna can’t have. he joins with basically worse bases than Nyna, several maps later than her in the game, and just about the only interesting thing you get out of him is the Luna tome he comes with which as far as i’m aware is not available anywhere else in the game. which would be super cool if not for the part where this is FE8 luna tome…
-
the sequence with the prisoners in chapter 13 needs some reworking. the mage does anywhere between 4-6 damage on Boah depending on his magic stat rolled. Since Boah has 24 base HP that means the amount of turns to save him will also vary which seems to be very unnecessary RNG, to the point where the most consistent way is to just unironically warp somebody across the wall. the knights tanking the archers also have the same issue. imo for the 3 enemies in that room you should just have fixed stats for those since the prisoners will come with the same stats anyway every time.
-
there is a bug involving the starsphere on the fane of ranan map. if an enemy thief opens the chest with it, the message that starsphere is sent to convoy still plays, and there will still be the starsphere in the convoy, but the enemy thief will also be holding a droppable starsphere which means you can have two copies of the starsphere for +40 Luck.

Great Shield as a class skill for generals needs to go from the game. This skill does absolutely nothing but contribute bullshit RNG to any combat interaction involving generals, especially since the player has no access to nihil or any way to mitigate this. a lategame General usually has defense stats in the 20s on hard which means 20+% chance to just straight up ignore your damage which i find absolutely unengaging. like yeah great you bring effectives or magic to fight and then the general just rolls double 25% chance to completely pretend like you do 0 damage and suddenly you’re screwed because the enemy you expect to be dead is surprise not fucking dead.
this issue is also exacerbated by just how many generals there are lategame which means everytime you fight one you roll the dice on literally whether you get fucked by the 20+odd% chance of your attack just doing 0 damage.
also if you thought enemy generals having this was bad then boy do i have news for you

i appreciate the improvements to enemy AI since my previous post, though i think there can be more done in this area to make chapters more interesting. pretty much 99% of enemies still have 50% recover mode AI which still makes them fairly exploitable. there’re various other settings for recover mode AI (e.g. trigger at 10% or 30%) which i think can be tapped on to make some chapters flow better (rout having 50% recover mode AI is miserable for instance since most of the time it turns the chapter into a wild goose chase).
-
it makes zero sense that astram can kill nyna or that nyna cant recruit him in his join map lol given that’s literally who he is loyal to. would also like to know if arran is indeed meant to be unrecruitable on secret route or not lol
-
there needs to be more hero crests available in the game. i understand this availability is mostly taken from FE1, but in that game fighters can’t promote so having a limited amount is fine. in here fighters can actually promote so between chapters 2 and 3 alone you get 5 potential hero crest users except there are literally only two available in the game so any more and you have to use master seals. throw in caesar/radd and darros and that number goes up to 8. having only 2 available feels incredibly restricting.
-
a bit silly so i’m putting this in brackets again
the bug
Wolf’s general class is compatible with the guiding ring. the promotion actually works and he can ‘promote’ to either sage or super pupil (game will crash if he has a weapon equipped, but if he doesn’t then it works). the former kills his str stat, but he keeps it in the latter while gaining access to magic.
FE12 Sedgar was really on to something when he said Wolf would change the weapons he was using depending on the situation lol
-
In addition to Gotoh’s title being borked, Gordin and Astram have typos in their ending titles (Gordin has his JP name Gordon, and Astram is spelt Astra)
-
(edit 30 oct)
Secret chapter stuff
The doors in chapter 23x are coded as wall tiles, making it so door keys do not work on them.
- (edit 31 oct) Elice has the wrong PRF lock skill attached to her unit, meaning she is compatible with Lena’s PRF warp but not her own
May I ask if it would be possible to have a list with all the secrets? I’m that type of guy that would rather have a fully detailed guide than going blind. Thank you for time
“Based Matthis” is something I never would have said in any official Archanea game but I’ve said multiple times while playing.
Could I ask what chapter his secret reclass is in? Also, does it matter if he’s promoted beforehand?
there’s an oversight in the weird route- i mean the secret route. after chapter 23, marth will say he killed maria even if you left her alone. maybe the slayer king took her out offscreen? still, it would probably be a good idea to make her a second boss target.
His secret reclass is pretty late, in Clash in Macedon (Chapter 22 I think?). It doesn’t matter if he’s promoted or not.
Oh good catch. I’ll try and fix that…at some point lol
also, i just realized that the secret route exclusive characters don’t have endings
