The answer to that is yes, along with the Whitewings, Arran (Samson is still allowed), and Lawrence. In exchange, you do get Darros, Horace, Etzel, and Ymir, though.
I think I still haven’t made the change where you can’t get Arran yet. Forgot to do that before upload lol
Hello all! New patch just published in the Google Drive.
Changelog v1.3 (05/14/2025)
- Fixed the res underflow glitch for dismounted Rangers (I haven’t tested it exactly but I fixed what the issue likely was, let me know if it doesn’t fix)
- Also fixed the issue that I hadn’t even noticed before that promoted dismounted Rangers had the unpromoted class caps
- Fixed a few typos
- Fixed Minerva’s palette when she appears as an enemy in Chapter 10
- Meredith has a death quote now
- The trend of deceased characters coming back to life in the early chapters SHOULD be fixed. If it’s not, idk what the issue is lol
- THE BIG ONE: I fixed the game-breaking glitch in Chapter 23! Berserkers now can walk upon peak tiles without the game exploding! (I haven’t tested EVERY SINGLE peak tile in the chapter, or in the game, but I tested a majority of them in the chapter and experienced no issues)
- A result of this fix: peak tiles now only cost 3 movement points for Berserkers instead of 4. You’re welcome?
Edit: oops I still haven’t done this lmao
5.25?
Oops. I meant 5/14 lol. I haven’t quite mastered time travel yet.
Nice hackrom.
Lovin’ to play it
The animations Re pretty nice and the portraits are beautiful, the story is pretty loyal too.
Nice hack
Just finished the hack, it’s very good, the sprites and the animations are beautiful and the story is pretty good too.
------------- SPOILERS-----------
- things could be better in:
- Ogmas backstory could be better explored, since it came up, there could be a mini boss or a bit of Convo with the map boss, maybe a mini mission?
- Navarre myrmidon sprite is beautiful and perfectly fit his anime/arts, but he having a normal SM sprite was a bit of a let down.
----- Bugs
The only bugs I saw were:
- some visual bugs when promoting and fighting against Gharma
- For some reason, when Castor unmount, he loses his S rank in Bows, and if the mounts again it doesn’t revert, so I needed to build it up again.
Besides that, I think everything is pretty ok, I didn’t test every single thing in the game, but I tried almost everything and it seems fine.
Waiting for the supports update
Also: Do you intend to make New Mystery too?
What were the visual bugs when promoting?
Also, which version of the patch were you playing on? Because I think I fixed the promoted castor unmounting thing. That was caused by unmounted rangers being considered unpromoted units, which is why Segar and Wolf gained mondo EXP when dismounted vs mounted, and I’m pretty sure I fixed that.
I am planning on Book 2! I’m about 12 chapters in currently. If you’d like to playtest some of it as I make new updates, feel free to join the discord server and hit me up!
There’s a bit of glitch before the promo animation, misplaced pixels.
About the patch: I don’t really remember, I usually delete the ups file after patching the ROM, but I downloaded it like 2 weeks ago.
I would love to play test, I’m just a bit out of time cause of the studying routine, but I can try and give some feedback.
How is the current state of bugs now? Most of them are fixed?
Another question, there are a lot of custom animations in this project? The screenshots was not enough to know.
There are a few custom animations. Marth and Caeda both have custom promoted animations, for example.
The big game breaking ones should be mostly fixed by now. Most of what’s left are visual bugs, to my knowledge, and they’re pretty minor. Some of them I don’t think there’s a feasible way to fix them, so it’ll just look a little janky.
I just checked my current rom, the error where dismounted Rangers were considered unpromoted has definitely been fixed in this, so you must be playing on an older version. Can’t remember when I last updated.
Hi, I downloaded this ~a week ago, and I just finished my playthrough, and overall I’d say I had a pretty good time!
I’m not super familiar with FE1/ Shadow Dragon, but it definitely held my interest the whole way through.
Thanks for making this! I’m interested to see if/when you do FE3 =]
Feedback and Thoughts (a lot, and poorly organized)
- I really liked how skills and such were used to differentiate characters within the same class (or those with similar roles). I especially loved the choice between Julian and Rickard, I thought that was pretty clever. I’m also glad the other Swordmasters got things, because my Navarre didn’t grow a single point of Str and I couldn’t use him.
- I was not very good at finding the secrets; I got two reclasses (Jagen and Sedgar (I probably found one for Matthis, but he was pretty much benched all game and I didn’t feel like bringing him out)), not sure if there were more; only found two Secret Shops (the one in the chapter where you get the card and the one with all the Gharnefs), despite scanning many tiles; I only found one Master weapon (the bow); and then I don’t know what else might qualify for secrets.
- I was scared to do Supports because I thought there would be a limit to how many I could do, but eventually Marth had his A support and then like, 5 Cs or something. Probably missed out on some paired endings, which is a shame.
- I used the Guide a fair bit, but it seemed outdated. I think a lot of skills were missing from that section (off the top of my head, I think Radd learned Vantage at Myrmidon 15, and Sedgar picked up Seal Speed at some point?). Probably would have helped with finding some of those secrets I missed.
** I’d say maybe have hints or something? Like a tab for Secret Reclasses, it gives you the character, the new class, and maybe the chapter or a method? A rough estimate for Secret Shops (“Northeast Corner,” “Center Area,” etc.)? - Thankfully, it seems like finding Desert Treasure was not RNG-based, so I only had to comb the desert once, and I could do it with anyone.
- I was downright baffled when I saw level 15 Fighters with Steel Axes on the penultimate chapter. I don’t know if that’s just a weird FE1 thing or what, but the Wyvern Riders were using Iron and were dealing 0 damage to my Caeda (who, admittedly, was oddly blessed with high Def, but still). The enemy level curve was just super odd.
- Broadly speaking, enemy density felt weird. Probably just an FE1 thing though?
- I played on Normal. I’m pretty sure Camus was on Lunatic. I survived him primarily because of the Sleep staff I found in the desert(?), which kind of just turned the fight off.
- I normally only occasionally play ROMhacks, so I had no idea that Michalis could have a “second healthbar”, I was rather surprised by that.
- On Michalis’s map, near the very end, Barst just sort of vanished. He wasn’t dead, but he wasn’t selectable or visible anywhere. I don’t know how it happened, but he was fine on the next map.
- I had a bug where sometimes, when I tried promoting, the animation would play, and I’d just get locked on that screen when it was finished. I had to reset, but between save-states and normal saving, I didn’t lose too much progress. Only happened once or twice, maybe, and I don’t know what caused it.
- I think Falchion’s description leaves out some details of note, like the +5 Str. It seemed underwhelming compared to other Prfs when I first read it.
- I don’t think I can do Secret Route. I like Minerva too much (and especially like Catria too much (I wanted to pair them but didn’t generate enough Support Points for A-rank in time)).
- For the very end of the game, The extra boss after Medeus felt unnecessary, I didn’t really love it. I appreciated how it allowed Tiki and other members of the team to contribute to killing a final boss (Tiki doing, like, 50+ damage felt good and made sense), but ultimately the story was fine ending with Medeus, imo. The foreshadowing for Book 2 was cool, though.
- Merric managed to double a Shaman on the last map while equipped with Bolting. Given the 5 uses, should probably have followups disabled, yeah?
- There were little typos throughout, but the only one I remember right now was that Astram’s name plate in his paired ending was missing the M.
- I liked the required Dismounting, but I wish you could re-mount between chapters. A lot of chapters opened with me clumsily trying to put my guys back on horses.
- I didn’t get anything that allowed Catria (or Palla, I guess) to stand out, which only really bothers me because Est got a Prf and Discipline. The baby got all the nice things. Possibly just a skill issue on my part.
- The fire/ explosion effect on Parthia and Deinsleif was a cool touch that I enjoyed when turning on animations.
- I think the blacksmith that sold me Hauteclere+ was just in a normal house that I checked for goofs, when the other times I met him, he was in a special tile, so I wonder how many times I missed him? Could I have gotten a Wing Spear that actually has the effective damage it normally has? I think the money cost is enough to justify the more obviously different tile for all cases.
- I feel like I only managed to make Warp semi-useful after feeding Lena multiple Spirit Dusts, but limiting the range was probably the better call. But I think that ~7 of my uses of it came in the last 3-or-so chapters as a result.
I will leave with one final, silly anecdote: “Bord had had his fill of warfare” Battles: 1 (fair enough, Bord, fair enough)
responding to a bunch of your stuff lol
Yep, there’s five reclasses in the game, unless I’m forgetting some. Jeigan and Sedgar like you found, plus the Matthis one you stumbled upon, there’s also Wolf if you talk to him with Sedgar in Chapter 8, and Bord if you visit the village in the desert with him.
There’s only one other secret shop, and it’s in the map after the Gharnef one, there’s a single tile over in the mountains to the upper right that looks different than the others.
The Master Sword is obtained in Chapter 9 if you clear the map without killing any of the Pyrathi slaves,, the Master Axe is given to you at the end of Chapter 10 by Merach if you spare him in both Chapters 5 and 6 (in Ch5 you can actually kill the armor on the other gate tile and seize that to clear the map, and if you do that, he’ll show up in Ch 6 as an enemy). You can only get this if you also don’t kill Minerva in that chapter.. And the Master Lance is obtained at the end of Chapter 21 if you don’t kill Camus. Doing this also loses you out on the Gradivus and Lorenz though, so honestly I probably could find a better place for it at some point.
Don’t feel bad about missing some of the secrets, they are fairly obtuse lol
I believe I have it listed in the OP that units can get 5 support partners but only one A rank? Though I honestly don’t know, that’s what the patch SAID was supposed to happen but then in playtesting Marth got so many supports it actually went past where the list should end on t he status screen lol So I have no idea how that happened. But supports aren’t as limited as vanilla GBA in any case.
Yeah, the guide is super outdated at this point. I just haven’t had the energy to go through and make a new one yet.
Yeah, I did that because I hate the RNG based desert treasure lol
Those enemies are there specifically to give a last minute training arc to Nyna or Hardin if you neglected them, because they’re force-deployed in the last map.
Mainly, I did pull from FE3 book 1 enemy placements and adjusted from there, so yeah, probably a bit of old FE stuff and my own lack of experience. I’m still learning!
Camus is just Like That™️.
Ggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh. This map has caused me endless grief and taken seventeen and a half years off my life XD Just when I thought I fixed that chapter. I also don’t know how it happened. That map has been giving me all sorts of weirdness.
Supports grow based on map deployment as opposed to time spent near each other on the battlefield. If you deployed them on each map they should have reached A-rank. If you did deploy them each map together since recruiting them both, and still didn’t get the A-rank, let me know, because that means I likely did my math wrong.
Weird, I’d have thought the insane weight would have already done that. Hmm. I guess I can add that, though, for sure.
I did figure out how to do this for Book 2! So I could probably put it back in for this one. If I do that, I might want to adjust some of the maps, though, since there’d be no need for the extended outdoor areas at the beginning of each map to allow for dismounting haha. Just something I gotta think about.
That’s just a product of the tileset for that map not having a special house tile. I think that’s the only time that was the case.
amazing. comedy gold lol
also can i just say how honored I am that your very first post in here is on my silly little fangame with Marth Fire Emblem <3
Yeah, still figuring out how exactly to deal with this one. The way I handled it in the WIP sequel is that I emptied Marth’s inventory into the convoy before giving him the Fire Emblem. Don’t know if that’s necessarily the best idea lol This can happen with the Falchion, too. Fun fact, apparently it’s possible to softlock yourself if you have a full inventory on Marth and a full convoy when you get the Falchion, as it just disappears. The Falchion is pretty much the only weapon that can deal any damage to Medeus lol
Thanks for calling it to my attention. I’ve been aware, just unsure how exactly to fix it as of right now lol
9 mov thief 9 mov thief!!
Fire Emblem doesn’t give chest access in this I never really liked that from a lore standpoint. I think currently it gives Great Shield but I might swap that for something else. Esp cuz it causes game freeze-y issues.
Do the secret reclasses reset unit lv., or are they preserved?
