[FE8] Archanea Reimagined (99% COMPLETE! Fully playable w/ Endings!) (v1.3 update w/ hotfix)

Wondering before I do anything stupid: What’s the limit on supports? Still the same as GBA?

Bug report: If you get Doga killed like an idiot in chapter 1, he comes back to life in Chapter 2. While Doga being Jesus is fitting, I’m rather certain this isn’t intended behavior.

From my experience playing half of this everyone can support with up to five different partners at once. Supports simply build by deploying the characters in the same chapter. I don’t know if multiple A ranks are allowed though.

Bug report: I killed Mathis as an enemy, yet somehow he’s in my party now, with an extra wingspear in his inventory.

Okay THAT is weird what the heck. Matthis coming back the next chapter I can understand. But with an extra Wing Spear? I have no idea why that would happen

Well, I’m certainly not complaining lmao

Is it normal that the class roll crashes the game?

Yeah. The class roll doesn’t like the narrow text patch

Might have to disable it entirely then?
Have to say this might probably be my fave fe1 in gba hack. Only a small thing that Jeigen’s battle sprite isn’t as purple as his portrait but that is me being a fan of nice purples.
Will the base sacred stone music be replaced too?

As the game goes along there’s less and less FE8 vanilla music, I think. I didn’t want to replace all of it, because some of it felt like it fits. I’m glad you’re enjoying it though! I hope to keep improving it, I just need to work up the motivation haha.

Edit: also, just don’t let the game go into class roll :stuck_out_tongue:

I feel like having a crash on the title screen is something that needs to be fixed.
Anyway, I’m currently on the chapter right after recruiting Minerva. My notes, currently:
1.) The enemies in Chapter 0 feel overtuned. They have stronger weapons and higher level than any other enemies for quite a while. They should be using Iron weapons, at the very least. Maybe swap one of the fighters in the top with a Warrior to achieve the same running-from-the-enemies effect?
2.) The Fire Emblem losing its ability to open chests is a disappointment. If there’s a logistical reason, maybe give it some other ability. Extra DEF, perhaps? (Also, as a minor note, it’s using the sprite of the Binding Shield.)
3.) Ogma’s writing feels off. He’s more serious, not the type to use slang.
4.) Speaking of Ogma, him revealing his backstory in the Pyrathi dragon chapter and then not having a side objective relating to the Pyrathi’s slave army feels like a missed opportunity. Obviously there isn’t room for a recruitable, but maybe a flag to flip red units green, or an item for not killing any of them? I think Meredith would fit here better too, given the theme.
5.) Ogma, Lena, Minerva, Mathis, and Linde could use a personal skill.
6.) Speaking of which, the Firestone should really be 1-2 range. Mana gets camped too easily.
7.) I think the behind-your-back enemy spawns could use being pushed back a turn or two.
8.) Minerva’s chapter could use more chest keys and more enemy thieves, I think. The one that’s there feels like he’s just there to deliver the Killer Bow to Jeorge more efficiently.
9.) I think it’d be better if you could fail the Minerva recruitment. Like, if Minerva dying didn’t trigger a Game Over.
10.) I feel like there should be more deployment slots per chapter. I don’t see why it can’t be a full 15 deployment slots every chapter, if there’s nobody being recruited.

Chapter 11 doesn’t have a low enemy theme, so the music cuts out.

Yeah I’ll definitely fix it, just haven’t had the energy to work on things recently.

  1. You’re not the only one who’s had that feedback. I definitely plan on changing them up a bit.
  2. The Fire Emblem gives Aether now. I never liked how the Fire Emblem opened chests. It didn’t make any sense from a lore standpoint. However, I think Aether might be a bit overpowered, especially once Marth promotes, so I’ll probably change it to Aegis or something more defensive. (And yeah, there just wasn’t a sprite for the empty Fire Emblem haha)
  3. Fair enough.
  4. Yeah, I definitely want to rework The Pyrathi Dragon a bit. I wasn’t sure what kind of side objective there could be. Not killing any of the enemies would be a ridiculously hard task, though I could maybe switch some of them to slaves and some of them to pirates, and then have the side objective be to focus on not killing the ones actually labeled as slaves. Meredith fitting in there would be a good idea. I just didn’t want the player to have to go TOO long without a dark mage, but Chapter 10 feels kind of perfect, actually, so I’ll definitely consider that.
  5. Matthis does have a personal skill. And while Linde doesn’t get a personal skill, she gets a personal weapon that gives her Paragon. I didn’t want to give TOO many characters personal skills, especially since there’s only so many skills in the base skillsystem that even work properly. Lena’s personal skill is warp use lol and Minerva’s is being Minerva.
  6. I thought the firestone was 1-2. But also, I’m not exactly sure what you mean by “Mana gets camped too easily.”
  7. In which chapter, the Minerva one?
  8. Fair point. I might put one closer to the southwestern treasure room to really encourage the player to play aggressively.
  9. I mainly did that so I wouldn’t have to write two distinct endings to the chapter lol But now that the game is mostly complete, that shouldn’t be too hard to implement.
  10. I didn’t want the game to be too easy by letting you take every superunit you get haha. But I can adjust it.

What do you mean low enemy theme?

  1. Wait, it does? Lol, I just assumed it got mislabelled or something. I think Aether is fine, considering this is a vast prequel to Awakening. If it gets super bad, you could always just turn down the proc rate.
  2. Fair enough, although I didn’t mean Mathis, I meant Merric. I always forget his name because I’ve always just used Linde instead lol
  3. It isn’t, weirdly enough. Because it isn’t, you can repeatedly attack Mana from range and completely nullify him as a challenge.
  4. I was thinking the one with Bantu.

Also, I like the tent mechanic. It’s a cool way to get duplicate prf weapons. All hail the third wingspear!

You know how the music changes when there’s one enemy left? That theme.

Also, one thing I noticed: Gotoh isn’t on the character list, although I’m pretty sure there’s no technical reason he can’t be, since he’s only in the last chapter and therefore doesn’t need to be in the prep screen.
There might be a plot reason I haven’t reached yet, though.

  1. Yeah, it doesn’t say it though. It’s not super noticeable early on because Marth’s skill is so low. I don’t think I can actually edit the proc rate, not without some coding that is above my skill level lol
  2. Merric’s personal skill is his Excalibur prf lol A lot of times if I didn’t give a character a personal skill, they have a Prf
  3. Who is Mana? I don’t remember a character called Mana. The boss of the Pyrathi Dragon chapter? Hm. Yeah, I’ll definitely change that at some point.
  4. Ohh gotcha, yeah makes sense. I can push them back a bit.

The GBA playable character limit is a bit weird. I ran into this issue in Project Jade, where I had a temporary playable character in the final chapter of the Paralogue, who was, in essence, the 51st playable character. If you quit and reload the save, the character will completely disappear. So that’s why Gotoh isn’t there. Currently, he doesn’t even appear in the final chapter, though he probably should. Like I said, I was getting really burnt out by the end of the game so I just sort of wrote out the quick scenarios to get through it haha.

Fair enough lmao. Hey, he ain’t in FE3, right?

Anyway, if you’re okay with it, I’m willing to join up in writing. I have some pretty funny ideas I’ve wanted to put into practice.

Sure, I’m always up for more help. I’m thinking of starting a discord server for my hacks, and we can have a story help channel or something in there for people to offer feedback on the writing and such

I find the use of the author OC to free Midia to be pretty cheap. I mean blatant author intervention? Really? I’d be okay with it if it wasn’t a remake, but it is.
I don’t really know how to fix it without sacrificing gameplay. Maybe have Midia smuggle the weapons in? Idk, her squad is incredibly uninteresting.
