[FE7] Can the item icons AB / AC (Music Notes) be safely replaced?

Hello there! So basically I’m currently messing around a bit with Fire Emblem 7 (USA) and, in a possible future project, one plan in mind is implementing new weapons that use vanilla icon slots, since it’s not a high number and I could replace some of the internal unused icon IDs.

The question then is simple: can the item icons located at both AB and AC, who look like musical notes, be safely repurposed for new weapons? This is because I wasn’t able to find a definitive answer online on whenever these two IDs are unused and safe to change or not.

Whoever can answer me this, could you also please, in the same post, make a list of other vanilla unused item icons that can also be safely replaced? That’s everything for now.

I think all unusedd assets are safe

I also looked and couldn’t find anything. If they’re not unused, then they must be from something very obscure. You’re probably good replacing them.

As for the unused items, I took a peek at FE7s innards and made a tentative list with their locations in the item icon editor:

  • Gold Icon at 89
  • Spear Icon Dupe at 8A
  • Eckesachs Icon at 78
  • Chest Key Dupe at 8B
  • Dark Breath Icon at 79

(Sorry it took so long to do this I was doing stuff and thangs)

Seems safe judging by TCRF’s list of unused items.

Thanks for the answers everyone! Now this should finally help out for future projects.

@Lloyd47343 From what I understand, the Gold Icon at 89 is actually used when you open chests that only contain gold rewards (one example is the 10k gold chest in Kinship’s Bond), but the rest of those icon IDs are all good, I’ll be repurposing them for new weapons. Thanks again!

Ah I see my b. I didn’t remember seeing it anywhere.

They’re using FE7. For some reason, that game’s page on tcrf just doesn’t have an unused items section.

Oops, sorry! I’m so used to people using FE8 for hacks…
