Obviously, more work can be done! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I continue to stay motivated. FE6 holds a very special place in my heart, this was a funny way of showing how dedicated a person I am for it. I’ve actually thought about/joked with friends about doing 7 and 8. Honestly? I don’t think I have that same kind of drive and passion for the rest of GBAFE, to be brutally honest. That isn’t to say I rule out the possibility entirely, but rather, it just wouldn’t have the same amount of love and care.
Whole project spawned from jokingly drawing portraits based on doodles I made on my phone starting back in HS. I haven’t really updated it as frequently, but I did repurpose them as server emotes for a time. I also tried to convert these goofy little things to portraits a couple years back! I only made Fir, and it’s a little rough. I’ve since gotten better at making portraits.
Speaking of!
I figured I’d post these for the heck of it! (disclaimer to whoever reads this: please don’t use these or any portraits I post in this response) I worked on some portraits for a hack of my own, I designed two chapters before kinda losing the motivation to continue the project. Planning to use some of these characters for an entirely different medium. Point is, I make silly portraits. Everyone I’ve shared these with seems to view them rather positively, and it’s a great feeling! I’d like to think these played a part in helping translate my more unorthodox looking FE6 portraits.
These were a bit of a rough draft, I think they predate the ones above by about a year.
I shelved the idea at the time I made my original batch of 4 and made some splices instead, obviously the splices existed between the rough drafts and the current iterations I have today!
Another thing that likely got the FE6 project finished within less than 3 months is a friend telling me that “if I drew every portrait, he’d play FE6” and right now he owes me a playthrough! There’s various discord servers I posted these in, a lot of people there expressing an interest in playing FE6 as well. If that’s what it takes to entice the people, who am I to deny them that opportunity?
Well, I am the one drawing it all. Yet, what kind of cruel monster would I be if I left this unfinished?
I had quite a bit of fun sneaking in little references. I play a lot of FE6, that cannot be understated. Going back to the possibility of 7 and 8? It would be much harder to capture that same energy, simply due to not playing them as often. There’s not as much history compared to what brought me to make FE6 REDRAWN. I’m content in this being all I do, but never say never. Though some help might be nice to have around if I decide I want to make more of these for other games, I can also see an art-collab-type-of-deal working as well! Intentional style clash while deviating from the typical art style does sound like a nice little exercise.
I’m working on a meme rebalance of my own, it’s probably going to be super tame compared to how other people have modified this entry, but that’s because I think vanilla FE6 is more well designed than most believe it to be, that’s the last thing I’ll share for now!
