I am here to destroy the arguments.
A very common piece of evidence is that the fe4 remake is too dark and Nintendo won’t release it. While I sort of understand this argument, take a look at every fire emblem game ever made. Every fire emblem game to this day contains child soldiers, death, and killing unarmed medics. This series is not exactly for 8 year olds. Not to mention the combat system, which while we may consider simple, could be quite confusing to newcomers. I guarantee many people picked up fire emblem only to drop it in frustration or confusion. Some other fire emblem games also contain dark elements; Such as cults, references to insanity, or slavery. In Engage, the dragon equivalent of Satan has thousands of kids so he can use them as frontline infantry. Let that sink in. Also in that is canonical child murder (Marni gets stabbed), forced servitude (of the emblems by the fell dragon), some characters are forced to kill their father resurrected as a zombie (diamant, alcryst, Ivy, Hortensia). Not to mention some of the supports, which while mostly wholesome, can at times be quite “interesting” (looking at you goldmary). Characters have mourning quotes when their friends, family, retainers, or lords die. There is an alternate timeline where everyone in elyos is a zombie. The outfits of some characters can sometimes be considered as stripper attire (zephia). There’s a masochist villain, who fights solely because of the pain he gets from it. And this is just from one game. Dark elements have always been part of fire emblem, and always will be.
Oh btw, children are (or can be) killed in other games besides geneaology too. Thracia, sacred stones, and fates.
Fire Emblem 4 is never getting remade. Best you can hope for is a port to the Eshop 2 with an english translation with mildly obnoxious censorship.
The Nintendo of today doesn’t have the stones to write anything as bold as that story. It might appeal to some kids these days but it doesn’t have anything designed to appeal to kids these days as blatantly as Dimitri and Edelgard and Claude were designed to be liked by specific target audiences.
Fire Emblem 4 is so Kaga it gets in the way of a comfortable playable experience. Nintendo wants everything they can to be child-friendly and brand-safe. If you start to change the worst parts of the game where does it end? When have you Ship Of Theseus’d the game into something new the only people alive who care about FE4 won’t like?
Fire Emblem 4 is a complete game. How would they add DLC and monetize this? Sell the first game and then sell the second generation as DLC or a second cartridge? How can they take a chunk of development time and spend it developing preorder bonuses and day 1 DLC? How could they sell you microtransactions, consumables, and gacha pulls? How could they shoehorn mobile game nonsense and cameos from the rest of the franchise and the stupid obligatory multiverse? Do you expect them to remake all of 5 and sell it as day one DLC for 4?
Nintendo isn’t Sega. They’re not going to make something like “Sonic Mega Collection Plus” or “Sonic Gems Collection” and scatter the FE games and a few others across them. Nintendo isn’t Square-Enix, they’re not making ports and Pixel Remasters that run on damn near everything often full of bonus content. Even though a Fire Emblem 1-8 Pixel Remaster (featuring Advance Wars 1+2 Pixel Remaster, NOT as DLC) would be a financially smart decision for marketing the franchise and its gacha-marketable characters getting kids these days to know what Advance Wars is. They sold a Galaxy port for a limited time and then sold Galaxy 1+2 as a bundle. Nintendo hates its fans.
Brand-safe?! 3 houses contains so many dark themes, even incest and rape. Child sex, insanity, and like all fire emblem games, death. The only difference between the 2 rating wise is that lots of people talk about messed up shit in fe4, but less talk about messed up shit in 3 houses. 3 houses is just slightly better at hiding. And in genealogy, its not like that stuff happens on-screen. That’s the reason its rating was so low, because it used words; not actions.
As for Dlc, that is a very valid point. They would probably add the standard sus dlc, maybe a couple new chapters/characters, nothing too crazy.
I see your point with Nintendo being unresponsive to fans, but they have put sacred stones and blazing blade on switch gba bundle (though you need online + to access it). What we need to do is start some kind of petition to show Nintendo the fire emblem fans are done fucking around. Make them listen, and if we have too, boycott products.
