Probably something like that. I’m not too versed in the technical specifics, but we definitely had a lot of available space in the rom to work with. I guess it would be more apt to say that we just really put all that space to use! Also, cool to see you excited for our patch! Thanks for all the work you’ve put into FE3’s translation history.
Is it possible to run this on 3DS virtual console? Or is the VC emulator unable to handle this patch?
Yoooo?! It was not long ago that I was hoping for a good FE3 patch, mainly because “Ugly Font” (really can’t overstate how ugly I find many early translation patches as well as officially released fonts in old SNES games) but this one looks great! Eager to try this out sometime because I really want to get into FE3!
I’m unsure about a VC injection, but this should work just fine on the SNES9x for 3DS application. Still, you can always try a VC injection and report back. Would be nice to hear about it.
Congrats on the release! I was lucky enough to see screenshots periodically as this was being worked on, and Krash is a great writer with a lot of love for this game. Looking forward to playing through it myself.
Thank you very much for all your hard work. I’m only a little ways in, so I’m not 100% sure if the writing is to my taste yet, but I definitely appreciate a fresh, less clunky take on translating what I consider to be a pretty underrated FE game.
I’ve noticed two small issues so far. In the opening crawl after the “Nintendo presents” screen, there’s a line of garbage at the bottom of every scrolling paragraph. I used the 1.0 headered BPS patch and I’m playing on the latest version of Mesen.
I also noticed this spelling mistake in book 2 map 1’s intro cutscene. That should be “co-conspirators”, not “co-conspiritors”.
You mean during the opening tapestry? I’ve noticed that in 1.1 roms, but only if you let it scroll once and then wrap back around to repeat. No idea what causes it though.
Thanks for the typo report though! I’ve got a folder running for typos and things to fix, so into the pile it goes.
I’m so excited to try this! Thanks for all the hard work!
Really excited to check this out. I’ve never played fe3 before. Congrats to the team for the release after all this time.
It could just have bene me but I have noticed that the text looks kind of dirty? Not sure what that font is all about but I have screen shots for you.
The third one might not look as bad but I thought it just looked odd. To give you context I patched the fig file (it was a japanese rom as I would think it was needed) with Lunar IPS. I also sed SNES Stuff to make it an unheadered rom. Was there something I did wrong or was there a different rom I needed instead of what I found.
I had similar issues initially, your rom isn’t compatible with the patch you used due to either headers or ROM version. Normally this would just make the game not work, but this is FE3. The game’s code may be spaghetti, but it’s also an AK-47. You can drag it thru the mud or drop it in the ocean, and somehow it will will still try to shoot.
I did try a smc rom of the same game and it is still giving the issue. And to my knowledge there is no sfc rom of the game so I do not know what to do to get the compatible rom I need.
It’s not the extension that’s the issue, it’s either the rom’s version number or if it has a header or not(in your case it sounds like the version number). The four patches are to account for all the possibilities, so if you use the 1.0 headered patch on a 1.1 unheadered rom, it won’t work correctly. Same goes if the rom is headered but is still 1.1, you need both the correct version number and the correct status of a header for the patch you are using.
In unrelated news, bug report!
I probably shouldn’t have 3 Mercurius, Parthia, and STARLIGHT in Book 1 Chapter 4. It also seems I can endlessly duplicate the Mercurius further if I wish
I downloaded the 1.0 version of the rom instead of the 1.1 like I initially did. Patched with the 1.0 headed patch and now it looks so much more clean than before. Thanks for the advice!
That’s a new one. Did you end up getting it patched alright?
Yeah, Patch worked with no issues until Book 1 Chapter 4, the weapons just weirdly appeared in my weapon list then.
Hm. I tried replicating it myself by just running through the first few chapters, but everything’s running fine on my end.
So I decided to double check I had no cheats on, I didn’t but uh…
These phantom Mercuriuses got weirder.
Apparently three Mercuriuses, a Parthia, and a Starlight got dropped in the Chapter 2 joining peeps items somehow. FE3 does some weird things sometimes, but I have no idea how this happens. 1.0 btw.
If I trade them directly from the Weapon list, they work like normal, no clue how they spawned this way tho.
I can just discard the Phantom Mercuriuses and Parthia at least, (maybe only while they are in the items tho), the stray Starlight can’t get discarded tho
Posting here for the first time in literally forever but I love this! I finished a run of FE3 Book 1 just last year and I’m considering finally playing through Book 2 sometime in the near future. I’ve played Archanea a bizarre amount, so it will be very fun to discover all the changes!
Already got an update! Courtesy of @RobertTheSable and @Miacis , we’ve now got english text in the opening class reel. Previously didn’t know how to do that. Also fixed several typos that people have reported, so thanks for sending those in!
The patches in the main post have been updated to include these.
