Bit odd that this is “the” thread for any issues like this, when I think this time the issue isn’t even related immediately to the repo.
The problem wasn’t that person took an animation still from the repo that’s just f2u but that they took it directly from an artist’s thread. The debacle’s only here because it’s submitted to the repo thread.
I also agree a bit with furious haunter. I think DM’s a better place to remind or enforce cite policy instead of a public thread. I’m pretty sure there was an instance where an animation wasn’t up to policy and the animator was given a shot to edit the animation and resubmit it through dms.
not what I said please read things before you complain
my point was that I AGREE with dancer on the core issue but he could have worded it better if it needed to be public or calmly talked about it in DMs instead.
Fair, I was more thinking of it as she interpreted the rules in a way where it was ok to make/post the animation without explicit permission*, and asked out of kindness, but that’s rather unimportant since well she shouldn’t have made/posted the animation before getting permission.
My argument was that Dancer’s supposition was while the most likely one not the only possibility and as a mod he should have been more impartial
*based on this post this is what Alice seems to have believed
Also as a side note my main issue with Dancer’s hostility is that the situation was dealt with, if he wanted to clarify stuff he could of in a better way, he also misread Alice’s explanation as changing the subject when it clearly wasn’t, he spread missinfo in a clarification post.
Sorry to distract from whatever discussion is going on, but Chrome is giving me a warning whenever I hit the ‘download’ button on battle animations in the repository. Is anyone else getting this?
Sometimes, GitHub can lead you to a wrong url; you can kinda try clicking the url to download the animation. I encountered a similar issue before, I tried to click the download button again and it worked. I think the problem was because of the third-party download thingy since it both compresses the folder and downloads it. cmiiw tho
Related to Alice’s things, I want to clarify several things.
Alice was posting the animation on a thread in FEUniverse website. So technically, FEU rules still apply even though we are talking for repo assets. Repo anims policy will only apply in the repository website and should not be considered as to nullify the policy in FEU; which means animations which are NOT hosted in the repo should be considered asNOT F2U/F2E. Animations in repo will adhere to repo’s policy (and yes, animations in the repo are F2E).
The reason I brought this up was it was originally a still and not an animation package. Just like what Contro said, the animation still was hosted on Smirks’s thread and there was no indicator about F2U/F2E in Smirks’s thread. Similar to portrait edits (splices nor customs); stills should not be considered as “F2U/F2E by default” so please always assume all creative works as not F2U/F2E by default unless clearly stated otherwise.
Coincidentally, Alice mentioned that the still is an edit from a vanilla animation. Regardless of the work was originally from a vanilla animation or not, people should or maybe must respect the work because even then; the edit is still an original effort from the artist themselves and are considered their intellectual property. And so, please refrain from using someone else’s work without their permission.
I hope this post can answer question both asked and unasked. If you have more questions about the rules, please read the rules thread here. And if you still even have more questions after reading it, feel free to reach me via DM.
By the way, can we remember that this is a repository discussion thread and that it’s all over and stop being sooo repellent to other members and fans and everything else, please thank you. (honestly for reasons like this it tends to put me off wanting to show anims or even be part of this community).
Yeah, I was thinking the same. One person to come to my mind here was someone that just decided to snark at the whole situation and chuckling instead of helping, but I’m not going to say more about that to avoid creating more discord here.
All in all, please act reasonably in these type of situation, everyone, and try to avoid being so confrontative at others’ mistakes (unless it’s made clear what they’re doing is really inmoral and that they’ll keep doing it no matter what, if so then, punish them then ). I have seen these type of fights before (not just in FE related topics) enough times to know how they are and what they end up bringing about, so I beg for everyone to try and act cordial as possible.
Regardless whether you were referring to me or not (seems obvious), I did snark and chuckle at the whole situation because it was utterly ridiculous. It was a microcosm of this site.
Every time I come here I see someone, this time a repeat-offender, essentially ridicule someone else who’s inexperienced or who violated some community rule/taboo with good intentions. Just this morning I read another thread where someone asked a simple question, making it CLEAR that they were not familiar with eventing whatsoever, and the response they got was prefixed by “I mean it’s pretty straightforward…” Why is that tone necessary?
These are GBA pixels we’re talking about, of which have been plagiarized from IS. People need to remember to get off the high horse they think they’re straddling every now and then. If you’re here to help, help. The side comments aren’t needed, from a moderator no less. Obviously it’s a minority who partake, but I’ve seen this same stuff for 12 years now - it gets tiresome.
Judging from the responses my reply sparked, others seem to be aware of this. I didn’t make things uncordial, someone else did - I’m only showcasing it. I won’t be commenting on this further.
Pushing aside everything that doesn’t have any relations with the repo… I want to make an announcement of small to medium changes of the battle animations in the repo! Folder naming and specifications of F2U/F2E assets are being changed.
The original format use to look like this:
[Custom DM] [F] Awakening Dark Mage by BatimatheBat
Now the format will look like this:
[Custom DM] Awakening Dark Mage [F] by BatimatheBat
Only the placement of the gender have been moved. Despite being a small change, it’ll make sure that different gendered versions of the same animation will commonly appear next to each other instead of constantly being separated by naming conventions. This format change will alter the positions of the other animations as well, but they’ll be in mostly in the same area. This isn’t a universal change yet and only applies to the ‘Magi - Dark-Type’ folder as of now. Eventually, I’ll get the rest of the categories to follow suite.
Second thing I wanna mention and it is quite important! All animations that are added to the repo will have F2U/F2E at the top of the Credits.txt file unless stated otherwise when the user submit an anim. This also only applies to the ‘Dark Magi’ folder as of now.
On the top of my head there are only 3 explicated stated non-F2E animations in the repo at the moment. If there are any more non-F2E animations that aren’t marked, please let me know. Hopefully this will reduce confusion in whether an animation can be edited or not.
