I’m playing a very hard difficulty hack of FE3H, with a personal restriction on myself to make things even harder on myself, and I often use Divine Pulse to undo input errors or bad RNG screwing me.
I don’t attack and then Divine Pulse and attack in different orders if it doesn’t crit (and in GBA emblem I don’t wiggle the cursor and rewind until I get the crit I want), that would feel like cheating because crits on demand is an advantage the game wasn’t designed around, I just use Divine Pulse for accidentally attacking the wrong guy/ending turn early/missing something that really shouldn’t miss like a Gambit or Combat Art. Sometimes I rewind unwanted crits because I wanted to give that kill to another unit or squeeze more EXP out of that kill. That seems fair to me. However this mod greatly reduces my number of Divine Pulses and I fundamentally philosophically disagree with this change. Baba Is You isn’t a worse puzzle game for letting you undo mistakes and it’s not a worse puzzle game for not giving every right answer a 10-40ish% chance to fail and every wrong answer a 10ish% chance to succeed anyway via Critical Hit. I know, I know, the “It’s a strategy game not a puzzle game” meme, but not all strategy games use luck. I’m not the type of person to insult this game design, it’s just a choice I disagree with.
If I wanted to “cheat” and get infinite retries anyway I could save a Backup at the start of every turn, copypaste that save somewhere else, and turn the game back on, adding that backup back into the save folder whenever I need to load from it again. What really separates using Divine Pulse to undo one mistake on your end, or the RNG’s end, from redoing the whole map the same way and trying to fix that error next time, or save abusing to reload from specific turns and then undoing the mistake? Convenience and IRL time saved. I don’t think the mod’s developer is wrong to make his or her mod this way, but… The mod’s choice to give me so few Divine Pulses doesn’t make the game harder in an interesting way, it just makes playing the game less good, which is a shame as the rest of the mod is very well designed, so I’d like to fix this error that’s harming my personal experience with the game. Other people could probably “just get over it” and pretend it doesn’t bother them, but you know me when it comes to time and luck.
Does anyone here have a mod that just gives you 99 Divine Pulses during gameplay? If not, what tool do I need to make my own mod for that without overwriting any of the good parts of this hack/mod/whatever it’s called?
