Do you listen to music while doing FE stuff, or any other thing?

Just making a topic here to kill some time. Something that, well, is mostly trivial, but may be nice to talk about. Something to gush about the music we listen to, basically.

As for me, I’ve started to listen to music sometimes while doing certain things ever since 2019 IIRC. Some of the genres I listen to most ended up being mainly various genres of Rock, like Classic rock and pop, Alternative rock, Grunge, Punk rock, Hard rock, Emo, Pop rock and Pop punk, alongside some bit of Heavy Metal, mainly the Traditional (Classic) one, and some Thrash Metal, Glam Metal, Alternative Metal, and Metalcore ones. And then some songs with the odd genre once in a while too.

Sometimes when I’ve done portraits of certain characters the music I’ve listened to while making was a bit influenced by those portraits I made, like for example, back when I did the portraits of some of the Sonic characters I did end up listening to some Sonic music (alongside some Pop punk and Hard rock songs that aren’t Sonic music, but do have the same style of music) and when I did Shadow’s portrait I’ve listened to Pattyproof’s video of “2 Hours of Just SHADOW Music”. The whole thing.

Another example is when I did John Wick’s portrait I listened to some music that’s similar to the ones used in the JW movies, like some Industrial rock and metal songs, Metalcore songs that talk about the grief of losing a loved one (ANOTHER MOMENT, IS, ANOTHER, ETERNITYYYY), and when I was about to finish his portraits, I capped it off with In This Moment’s “I Would Die For You” that ended up appearing at the credits of the last John Wick movie.

As of now, for this month of October, I ended up listening to other songs that either, are just more Metal songs, or are fitting for Halloween (like NIN’s “Dead Souls”, Pantera’s “Cemetery Gates”, Sponge’s “Plowed”, Dead Kennedys’ “Holiday in Cambodia”, and soooooooooo many others).

To be honest with you, this was just a bit of an excuse to show the music preferences I have in my life and the things I do daily. If you do listen to music while doing anything, feel free to share here.

Due to the nature of my hack, I listen to a lot of the vtuber’s discography. Ive been doing portraits and ive spent my time with each of their discographies.
I’ve also liked listening to an artist called “Akasaki” recently, along with “Aiobahn” and “Nhato”

Video game soundtracks are the only things that keep me sane while working on this stuff.
The Armored Core Soundtracks have been my current obsession.

Do as my bio says and play Armored Core.

I listen to a lotta jazz, blues, and funk just because what I was raised on.

When I’m idly working on FE stuff like events or dialogue, I listen to a lot of the same albums, mostly stuff like,

  • Dave Grusin’s “Homage to Duke”
  • Lester Young/Teddy Wilson’s “Pres and Teddy”
  • Miles Davis’ “Kind of Blue”
  • Joe Henderson’s “State of The Tenor”
  • Weather Report’s “Heavy Weather”
  • Sonny Rollin’s “Saxophone Colossus”
  • Steely Dan’s “Can’t Buy A Thrill”, “Aja”, and “Pretzel Logic”
  • Herbie Hancock’s “Head Hunters”
  • Keith Jarrett’s “The Köln Concert”
  • Jeff Coffin’s “Bloom”
  • Yellowjacket’s “Live Wires”
  • Jaco Pastorius’ Birthday Concert

Ever since last night when my dad gifted my Miles Davis’ “Bitches Brew” album I’ve been listening to that though. Super great, as is my opinion of most records with Wayne Shorter on them.

y’know I should get back to that.

I do also sometimes listen to music while working on things. Just, things in general. Doesn’t have to be FE related.

Some Fortune Street tracks I will listen to on and off Mario Hoops 3 on 3 has some pretty good tracks to listen to Advanced Wars days of Ruin has a few tracks that I like listening to off and on and sometimes random Fire Emblem ROM hacks we’ll have some pretty good Tunes in them I end up just listening to them do what you will with that information

I mostly listen to FE music while I sprite and sometimes hack, because I’m a loser (affectionate)

I usually go through my YT recommendations, but it ends up repeating the same songs, for some reason (I have to listen to more stuff, by the way.) Anyway, this is the song that has been repeated the most lately, and the one that gives me the most feeling of… fantasy.

Depends on what aspect of my hack I’m working on.

If I’m writing the story, I’ll put on an instrumental that fits the tone of the scene. For working on maps, character/weapon stats, etc, I just listen to my favorites.

chaotic evil, i cant imagine working and having to hear my own thoughts, feels terrifying.

Back to the topic I love listening to music while i work on a portrait, its kind of my favorite part to just have a chill moment listening bangers and drawing, and idk, building a giant List of songs that i randomly discover, over the years, feels kinda special: My super Epick List.

About genres i think im open for almost everything, going from jazz, vocaloid, chiptune, power metal, classical… but usually i like to ear themes from games, its awesome what each composer is able to do whith certain videogames.

Some of my favorites are Hakita (Ultrakill), Toby Fox (Underale and many others), And Revo (Bravely Default) -AKA the composer of Attack on titan-

Also as Op mentioned before, if the character im working on is related with an awesome Ost, I go for it, it just feels really cool to do.

Fellow silence enjoyer. I find that any video/song I have playing distracts me too much from working.

A bit late to this party, but I also have to admit I listen to not only music while doing whatever work in the computer (not just FE related), but I also sometimes pop in streams to listen in the background, podcast style.

If we’re still doing excuses to showcase music preferences, then my own bread to this basket would be the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series. Ever since I started playing the games starting from Yakuza 3 (yes, really lmao), basically almost all of the soundtrack are absolute bangers, and I listen to them a lot even to this day.

That being said…

Yep, sometimes I just do that too.

Still as a statue, sort of wishing a magical genie would appear to fix everything I need.

I just do it in silence, if I’m playing a hack, i just read the dialogues in my head and if I’m in battle, i just imagine the sounds they make that are realistic.

Music has a big impact on everything, so I usually put on music that fits the scene I’m writing. Pulse-pounding siege? Any Linkin Park song. “Breaking the Habit” is my personal favourite. Sad farewell? “Lady D’Arbanville” by Cat Stevens is a good one. Something ethereal, mysterious, but intriguing? “Ruler of Everything” by Tally Hall is what initially inspired Treasure Hunters’ origins.

Music helps. Though sometimes I get too caught up in my work that I forget to turn on music and I don’t even notice. I’m weird like that. I’ll also willingly turn it off temporarily when I need to really focus, particularly when numbers and such are involved.

Since I sometimes livestream myself working on my project, I have copy-right free music from Dova Syndrome and Maou Damashii in the background while I work. Not just for me, but also for people who happen to pop in.
When I’m not streaming, though, I put on all sorts of stuff, usually video game osts or vocaloid stuff. I have dedicated playlists for a few of the major characters, so I’ll put those on when i’m writing scenes with certain characters
