Do you guys play other Tactics RPGs besides Fire Emblem?

I’m really, really bad at finishing games. I often play a game once for like 2 hours, go “that was fun, I should keep going next time” and then never pick it up again.

Case in point, I’ve played:

-Advance Wars (played the tutorial and like 3 stages after that)

-Advance Wars Dual Strike (don’t remember where I was in that one)

-Stella Glow (played the demo)

-Bad North (it’s a rogue-like, not sure how far I got into it)

-Disgaea 1 (Played for like 1 hour and never picked it up again)

-Into the Breach (played for maybe 5 hours, couldn’t figure it out and stopped playing)

-Langrisser 2 (beat the first chapter and never got around to the rest)

-Triangle Strategy (played the demo)

-Valkyria Chronicles (played the intro chapters, basically just the tutorial)

-Wargroove (never got past the leafy guys)

-Pokemon Conquest (got stuck on one of the levels, and I think I traded it in. Don’t remember.)

-Codename: STEAM (played the intro)

-Tom Clancy’s Endwar (the DS version. Got stuck and never beat it.)

-Project X Zone (THE ONLY NON-FE SRPG THAT I’VE BEATEN)

-Project X Zone 2 (played the first few chapters, never got around to the rest)

-Xcom 2 (played for maybe 30 mins)

My backlogue is infinite, man…

Personally I like to distinguish TRPG, SRPG, TBS, and RTS.

But if we’re lumping the different genres of rpg strategy game together…

I haven’t played nearly as many as some of the other people here, but the ones I have played I’ve put a considerable amount of time into.

Advance wars 2: Black hole rising
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Fire emblem path of radiance/radiant dawn
Mario + Rabbids: kingdom battle

With FFTA coming out as possibly my most played videogame ever. I estimate I’ve clocked about 700 hours working with it through the years.

I’ve also “played” others (FFT, FFTA2, Triangle Strategy, Tactics Ogre Reborn, Armies of Gillienor, Days of Ruin, various flash games and pvp strategy games) but haven’t put more than a few dozen (24-50) hours into them.

Edit: forgot to mention Warcraft and Risk variants but that’s a whole tangent, oh yeah and Civ V/VI too

I’m an OG Final Fantasy Tactics nerd. I grew up on that thanks to my older half brothers and when it comes to tactical RPGs at least, it’s the bar I set for many other TRPG’s I’ve played. I love that game more than Thracia, which says a lot about me cause that was my first and my favorite FE game. You can best believe I’m looking forward to its remaster/remake and I plan on buying it AT LEAST twice.

Also a huge Onimusha fan. So seeing someone else mention Onimusha Tactics made my day. I loved that game and played the hell out of it on my old GBA, then when I lost the cartridge I got a new one shortly after at a Disc Replay. Needless to say, the older style TRPGs really speak to me.

Played a lot of others tactics rpgs, latest ones were the remake of tactics ogre on switch and Unicorn Overlord both were very fun experiences (but one clearly more hardcore than the other lol) !

Having played a lot of Shining Forces when I was a teenager, which was amongst my favorite with the gba fire emblems, I really hope that sega finally decide to remake shining forces games so that younger generations can discover this saga (and also so that i canould finally play shining force III ahah)

Awesome ! … By the way which one is your favorite version? The original Final Fantasy Tactics for the PS One, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (PSP), or Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles (PS5/Nintendo Switch)?

Well I grew up on the older game, so it’s definitely the one I prefer. War of the Lions slowed down the combat considerably, but it also added my favorite Job Class in the form of Dark Knight.

It’s why I love the Lion War Mod. It’s basically OG Tactics, with War of the Lions names and jobs and extra content.

As for the Ivalice Chronicles, I very much plan on buying it, because it’s more or less a Remaster/Remake of the original. I think my only issue with it is no War of the Lions stuff (So no Dark Knight, no extra content, etc.) but that’s a small price to pay for remastered FFT I think. I honestly just hope it sells well enough that they’d continue Ramza’s story, because the original creator of Tactics confirmed Ramza lived to have adventures elsewhere. Ramza was always one of my favorite FF protagonists, even if he wasn’t a mainline one.

Those union games by dept heaven

I have played all those in the OP. 'Cept my copy of TO:LUCT is the SFC cart- the superior version of the game, imo, even if I’d recommend Reborn to people who don’t appreciate mid 90s retro game jank.

To add to that list; Front Mission, Vandal Hearts, Disgaea 1, 2, 4, and 5, Phantom Brave, Jeanne d’Arc, Wild Arms XF, Shadowrun Returns, Blackguards, Fae Tactics, Fell Seal, Dark Deity 1 and 2, Banner of the Maid, Symphony of War, Absolute Tactics, Triangle Strategy, Pathfinder Kingmaker and WotR, Battletech… probably more, but those are the ones I can think of right now.

EBF3 mentioned!

Other tactical RPGs I have played include the mercenary saga games, tactics ogre reborn, advance wars 1 & 2, Triangle strategy, Langrisser 1&2, Dark deity 1 & 2, and both Mario+Rabids games.

I have only beaten advance wars 1, triangle strategy, both dark deity games, and Mario+Rabids kingdom battle.
