[COMPLETE] [FE8U] Fire Emblem: Shackled Power (33 Chapters, Version 1.334. Easy Mode Available)

Whoops. At least I found that to be an easy fix. That and Pork’s above issue will be fixed in a new patch soon enough. My apologies if this took you out of the moment.

Naaaah. This was actually one of the best Romhacks I’ve ever played.

Oh and, while we're at it...

It should be spelled ‘courtesy’.

I am sad though that Evans and Madari don’t have a paired ending. I figured they would have…

Cyrus and Majen too, but man, Cyrus gets done so dirty in his solo ending… though ig that’s life.

Not everyone gets a heroic or peaceful, or even significant death. Sometimes, it just… happens.

A new patch to polish some stuff has been put out. Find it in the OP as usual.

A fairly nice addition was a personal animation for Vicks, created by @Pushwall. Big thanks to them, as now we don’t have to question where all of that old hair was coming from.

bicks

For those that have already played, thank you again for doing so.

Patch Notes

-Vicks now uses a unique animation in battle (Thank Pushwall)

-It is now possible to sell the Lanceslayer and Axeslayer (Thank Toffee)

-Fixed Onick’s affinity being inconsistent between appearances.

-Fixed a discrepancy between a certain unit’s stats compared to their boss version.

-Fixed one of the villages in Chapter 14 being unable to be destroyed by bandits no matter how hard they try. (Thank PorkSoda)

-Minor text/graphical adjustments.

Finished this hack today. Honestly all around incredible. Gameplay, characters, and story were all a cut above the rest. Ended up investing into probably more cavs than was ideal, on a replay would probably use more mages. That being said I dunno if any of them would compare to silph, that unit is insane. Also shoutout to kassandra’s animations, love that shit. It does seem like most of the units are quite good, which is usually hard to accomplish, so props for that. The only unit I used and thought was aggressively bad was eileen, but she might have just been completely rng screwed.

Anyway this will probably be my top recommended hack from now on, good stuff.

I ended up dropping the hack on the very final map but wanted to share my thoughts anyway.

I had tried the hack way back in version 1.2 (jun '23) and only had reached end of ch2. Restarted for this playthrough. This playthrough I started on Jan 5th.

For context played ironman-lite (resets only for gameover or softlock), normal mode despite not being recommend for ironman, and mostly blind. This likely resulted in skewing my perspective given not intended way to play.

Thank you making the hack, I may return to it at a later date. While there’s some bad , the hack has a lot of good.

Also just curious, is there a silver card or S-rank staff in the hack?

General thoughts

The good:

  • Original world map is cool. MS paint?
  • No-markup prep screen shopping.
  • 200 convoy slots
  • 5 move armor (and 6 generals)
  • Save points (Didn’t really come into play for me but good to have)
  • Boosting of class crit to 25 and mono-spear one getting crit
  • Enjoyed the story, custom mugs and animations.
  • Stealing at full inven!
  • gold and slim weapons were fun. Wasn’t clear however how much the gold boosts WT. Seemed like 3x but uncertain.
  • sellable dancer rings (She died so…)
  • Fence terrain
  • bombs cool
  • Possibility to get multiple boots
  • Multiple Hoplon Guards
  • Unbreakable range 1-3 shows up for player use!
  • New tier of throwing axe
  • less-broken hand axe/javelin
  • Other various new weapons such as A-rank anti cav and armor lances, an anti mage sword.
  • Prfs for Axe users.

The bad:

  • Sniper class feels underpowered. Swordmaster, Berserker and Halbedier all get crit boost but not them. For other bow units; Warriors get axes, Rangers gain a mount and sword, and lieutenants have bombs and lower cost mov. I did see they seem to be only class able to use ballista, but also only recall encountering a handful. In terms of enemy class could just ensure ballisat can’t crit.
  • Ruben’s Prf seems ot be acrobat but also allows him to traverse fence. not entierly clear on effect.
  • 5 mov dancer
  • Void curse “endless” reinforcements.
  • Can’t buy bombs from prep shop.
  • Several cases of seemingly no-warning on maps.
  • No hint for Gaiden
  • For much of the game I was running into single digit crit chance vs generics.
More-nitpicky, chapter-specific. Mostly complaints, some praise.
  • Ch8 timer not being visible until map starts is just kind of eh.
  • I like Ch9 warning of fog at start, and being able to re-talk to remind myself of the info for enemy locations.
  • Ch13 Growing line of sight is cool!
  • Ch15 Member card without a same-map secret shop felt oof.
  • Ch17 I found the timing too harsh.
  • Ch20 Village timers felt too tight given the nasty berserk druid. Furthermore the boss felt way overkill. Charging without warning is already bad enough, but on top of that having powerstaff and nasty skills just seemed too much
  • Ch22 Status screen correctly says to kill the leader, but in the map preview on on-map there’s just mention of “kill boss”. Leanding to me worrying about ending map prematurely. Summoner leaving without warning felt eh.
  • Ch24 I really like the concept of moving tiles. So-so on the execution.
  • I enjoyed the trials. Especially mix of attack/defend one.
  • Endgame 2 felt stupid. Lots of reinforcements (let alone infinite), strong foes. Very little room for expression and more of just “do this or lose”.
  • Endgame 3 I just quit, seems less-bad than 2 but still pretty eh.
bugs/oddities
  • Enemy valkyrie have lance rank
  • Grant’s Prf is anti-armor but doens’t mention it
  • Various saves softlock.
  • in Ch19x there’s many unlisted conversation in the unit menu but visible on-map.
  • Ch21X boss displays 0 crit in preview but calcs normally
  • Ch23 a lieutenant has stunner with a different color. Stats are identical.
  • Endgame 2, Hama has a Knight Crest?
Rambly thoughts on units
  • Prosel - Lord. Nice utility in skills and later bomb. Good prf. All around solid.
  • Haban - Jaigen. I like that he can keep up with str/skl, but realistically falls off hard. Canto+ is nice too.
  • Lou - don’t recall well enough to comment
  • Hute - don’t recall well enough to comment
  • Annie - Probably MVP earlygame. Sadly lost mine (with at the time only hoplon) to foe out of sight during a fog map.
  • Alta - don’t recall well enough to comment
  • Eileen - Great spd and res. Didn’t hit very hard. Still, useful. Was only unit I had able to rescue a certain wyvern lord…
  • Dart - Pretty generic. Squishy but utility. Bombs help viability.
  • Cyrus - Better bases, worse growths than Majen.
  • Majen - Took time but grew into a very reliable unit. Wish the speed cap was a tad higher though.
  • Siplh - support. They ended up not seeing a ton of combat after and early promote and instead just rescue ,canto, staff.
  • Grant - Sadly slow, although can great great def. Not ideal longterm
  • Eddie - More Practical Grant. That being said felt not-great. Was fine but nothing more.
  • Colton - Barely used. Has potential as glass cannon.
  • Maryilyn - Especially useful with +1 range staves. Tad slow but hit hard. Was nice to get dark on promo, and being armed even at t1.
  • Dour. MVP by far. Being able to use gleamstone was cherry on top.
  • Clint - Better Ruben but needs investing. Useful prf
  • Demi - Recall them being kind of “meh” Although dark tomes are useful. Sadly didn’t become a summoner
  • Wyler - Who I expected to be my MVP after recruiting. Sadly died not long after.
  • Nello - don’t recall well enough to comment
  • Melanie - 5 mov is only thing that stood out ot me really. Very frail.
  • Bast - Tad slow but great all around.
  • Peirhok - Only was controllable once for me, strong but wasn’t anything crazy. Nasty as a boss.
  • Lilim - my fastest unit for the latter half of the game. Really good all around.
  • Eliza - Died in the map they join.
  • Orville - Fastest unit for final maps. Better-Dart.
  • Ruben - generic is generic. Wish he had some more skl and/or spd. Prf was fun but at the same time a bit underwheleming.
  • Vicks - Never used. I could see him having potetinal but short of rng blessing never a top tier unit.
  • Cadence - Overall better flier than Eileen.
  • Onick - Better than Ruben for a prepromote.
  • Lyra - Staffbot. Kind of lacks speed to double but at least htis hard.
  • Rita - Great for when they join and then falls off in speed to a rather unhealthy level.
  • Carrie - Really solid lategame join, Viable from then until end.
  • Nidas - Needs investing but wound up fantastic. Flying with solid str/def/spd. Even res wasn’t terrible.
  • Krunk - I like the prf ability. Not the stat nerf. Barely used.
  • Aster - Tanky sure, but won’t one round most foes due to a lack of speed.

Thank you for trying out the hack, regardless of how it ended. I’ll answer some of your questions below:

Answers

-The Warp staff serves as the S-rank staff in this game. It can be found in Chapter 20.

-The Silver Card is a secret bonus item in this. To obtain it, you have Orville visit the village in Chapter 17 (One of the houses at the start hints heavily at this)
-There is in fact a secret shop in Chapter 15.

-The only enemy Valkyrie with a lance rank should be Sicilis, who has that as a reference to some events mentioned in optional dialogue/supports.

-The oddly colored stunner is a mystery to me, but I never fixed it because it looks cool.

-Hama carries the Knight Crest to signify her extreme ranking in the Gothen forces. Mirales and Girulian also hold them for the same reason.

I hope the enjoyment you got from this hack outweighed the frustrations, and that you have a great day.

Hello. I just updated the patch link with Version 1.33. It’s not very major at all; Just some text and graphical fixes. Big thanks to @Pushwall for catching a bunch of typos in the supports in particular.

Continue to have a wonderful day.

Could you add Fixed growths mode? I tried to add myself but could not get to work

Adding fixed growths mode should be pretty easy. All you have to do is edit the starting event of the first chapter to turn on the Global Flag 0xEF. That will ensure player units will be set to fixed growth mode.

I hope that helps.

Question! How can i use the new patch without erasing my old gameplay? Sorry I can’t remember how I did this for Adaron

There should be an option in your emulator for the battery file. You want to load that from your old file onto a fresh ROM with the new patch. For MGBA, you may need to rename the battery save to be the same as the name of the new ROM as well.

that being the map story lesson? I tried and to test I always level up the main character , specting the HP , STRENGTH, SPD , and LUCK , but still getting random level ups , I read a tutorial and it said I need to change the very first line of event , but didn’t work , I am new to this FEBuilder stuff

I checked further and unfortunately Shackled Power runs on a version of SkillSystem from before the functionality for FixedGrowthsMode was added. As such, the global flag method will not work. I will have to look further to see if I can add support for it. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hello. So this is rather embarrassing, but something I changed during the creation of patch 1.33 ended up breaking the epilogue. I just uploaded a fix for it, and I’m terribly sorry to those 180 or so people that downloaded it. If you have 1.33 and your ending is breaking, please redownload the patch, transfer the save over and then reloaded the epilogue to see it proper. Again, terribly sorry about all of this.

On better notes, working with @Pushwall allowed us to find a somewhat partial fix to the occasional crashes that can occur when using save points. While it might not be perfect, save point crashes should now happen much less. Big thanks to him for finding this.

I hope you continue to enjoy your day.

Prosel has A rank axes at base even though the Unit Statistics sheet says that he should have D rank. Everyone else has the weapon ranks that are listed in the sheet.

Fixed. Thanks for catching that.
