Choose Your Legends: Round Ten

Count 'em! Ten! We’ve hit double digit CYL, and our reward for this is two polls, one after another! Twice the ballots, twice the fun.

Before we get to the main event, we shall address the impostor in the room. The winners of the Shadows Cup will also get broken alts in Heroes. And presumably Shadows too. Everyone is eligible for this one, unless your name is Lyndis! She already has a Shadows alt. The winners of this contest are determined by move type. One infantry, one cavalry, one armoured, and one flying unit will each take home the honours of receiving a Shadows alt. There are four days of voting. Who do you think would be the best at social deduction?

Here’s my first vote.

The Main Event

Last time on Choose Your Legends, a pile of Heroes OCs won! This time, will a similar thing happen?

If Sigurd doesn’t pull it out of the bag this time, I’ll scream. And cry. And get mad. And express various other negative emotions. I’m not going to pretend to be neutral here. He has 1500 votes on Fomortiis, and I think that the Demon King’s vote is going to crash as the novelty factor wears off. Sylvain, third in the men’s category, has 5,000 votes fewer than Sigurd. Something absurd would have to happen. But absurdities can and do happen in Choose Your Legends. If you are a Jugdral fan, do not get complacent! Vote Sigurd!
After Sylvain, the Black Knight is surprisingly close to him - there’s only 400 votes in it. He may well prove to be a dark horse candidate. Diamant is the next highest, but his chances of victory are slim, unless the Engage fanbase entirely manage to unite around the one candidate.

As for the women’s side of the bracket, Azura stands as the lead candidate. A perennial top 10 member, yet rarely talked about in terms of striking for victory. Could this be her year? Ivy is next after her. If Engage wants to get a character in the CYL hall of fame, it desperately needs to focus on potential winners. Ivy kept the most of her vote compared to any other major Engage candidate: 96% of votes. Do you think the good people of Elyos need a place in CYL? Vote Ivy.

Rather grim reading. What’s not grim is Tsubasa going up by 3,000 votes. Tokyo Mirage Sessions, as usual, received no acknowledgement whatsoever in Heroes in 2025. Can the TMS fandom force IntSys’s hand? The plan is clear in this regard: vote Tsubasa and maybe, just maybe, the game will be acknowleged.
After Tsubasa comes Yunaka and Alear, who are proof of the dangers of vote-splitting. While there’s always the potential of a new Heroes OC appearing to run off with the trophy, and the characters of Shadows are going to enter the pool, I doubt they will make much of an impact. Fortune’s Weave, however, will. This may well be the last chance for several candidates.

I am very normal about the possibility of Edelgard being the next Shadows character

I’ve finished up my Shadows Cup ballot. Well Celine’s an arc villain in War of Lovers, Eliwood’s one of the main characters in another arc, and Chiki and Sheeda are fairly prominent all game long. I could have thrown a vote at Marth himself, being the lord, but I think he’ll be fine. Whoever wins, wins.

CYL itself will begin after today’s voting ends. Vote your favourites, and try to convince the undecided.

what do you mean Gatekeeper was 5 Cyl ago?

Deen for the win

Are we perhaps voting the same guy? Or is it the other Deen? Either way, great choice.

My plan is to vote for him all 7 times this go-around, to help ensure he can snag a spot on Valentia’s next banner (July/Sep/Oct?).

I’ve updated the OP with a link to the main CYL page.

Oh, and of course.

2026 will be his year. It’s FE4’s 30th anniversary. Go Sigurd!

The midterms have appeared! What will you do?

Compared to last year’s final top twenty…
Men’s: Reinhardt is out, along with the winners, with Berkut, Lif, and Hubert coming in.
Women’s: OC Hothr and Lapis are out, plus the winners. Heroes Anna, latest OC Fimbulvetr, Fjorm, and the Shadows lord Kurt have replaced them.

Now you know who the frontrunners are. Do you choose to pivot to one of these candidates? Or do you stick with your favourites until the end? I know what I’m doing.

Let’s party.

Tsubasa could totally win if Itsuki and Touma fans weren’t so damn shortsighted and could just pool their votes into her. We’re trying to get TMS content, it really doesn’t matter WHO wins, just that the one with the best chance to finally force IS to acknowledge the game more.

I would also enjoy Engage taking another L

Fimbulvetr and Anna look like they’re gonna ruin my year

And so, the final day of voting dawns. I did what I usually do: vote for Sigurd, then various other Jugdral characters who really should be in the game already. (I bent that rule a bit as Lana’s currently in alt hell. She’s in, but she’s not in base form, and it says something about how little Jugdral characters get alts that this is the first time I’ve had to consider this for CYL votes - only other example I can think of is Brigid.)

Who did the rest of you vote for? Sigurd of Chalphy? Fomortiis, the Demon King? Sylvain Jose Gautier? Ivy of Elusia? Tsubasa Oribe? Azura of… you-know-where? Or did you forego the frontrunners and just cast votes in favour of your favourites, whoever they may be?
The winners will soon be revealed. Good luck to your candidate of choice.

A 2-for-1 special this year. Kinda hope burger king doesn’t pull through as that’s like the one profile I didn’t archive.

And the winners have been announced!

CYL PROPER:

SHADOWS CUP:

Women's Top Twenty

Men's Top Twenty

Shadows Cup Top Five Per Move Type

Reaction

Sigurd is the winner!!! Hurray! It was a close race between him and Sylvain for the crown, but ultimately, the lord of Chalphy came out on top. And the Tsubasa rally was real. I thought it was just a very loud vocal minority, but the local idol has in fact charmed the people. And Engage loses yet again. Will it ever win? At this point, I feel a bit bad for it. It’s not a bad game. Well done to Azura as well, being a perennial candidate. We’re the ocean’s grey waves tonight.
There’s 3,000 votes between Sylvain and Fomortiis, and 2,000 votes between Azura and Ivy. This is also the final CYL before Fortune’s Weave. The top twenties may be radically altered when it arrives…

Shadows Cup is a CYL4 repeat, except Lysithea’s been replaced with Tsubasa. She won so hard she won two polls. You reap what you sow, Intelligent Systems. You ignored TMS for so long, and it finally boiled over.

Full results aren’t out yet. They will be posted when they are.

HELL YEAH TSUBASA SWEEP
I’m so glad she won after such a promising rise in previous years.
I’m also happy Engage lost, because that game is worthless trash that deserves to be forgotten/ridiculed, and this is the proof. Sad to see Yunaka drop this badly, though. She’s its only good character.
Very happy for Sigurd, Sylvain, and Azura as well. Was fine with whoever of the top 4 men won and am glad to see Azura beat out all the Heroes and Engage slop. She deserves it after Engage snubbed her.

I literally don’t give af about the Shadows cup, clearly a desperate attempt to keep the game going, though I’m shocked Tsubasa got on. It is a pretty good litmus test of the popularity of the other FE characters though. Three Houses and Edelgard still top the charts. Goes to show that the vocal haters are very much a minority.

Overall, personal favourite CYL lineup I’ve seen. No Heroes OCs, Engage lost 4 times, no Shadows, an underdog character won twice. A good year for FE fans.

The full results are out. So, I’ll sum this up by seeing where my guys wound up.

  1. Sigurd: 9,542 votes, 4th place (winner!)
  2. Oifaye: 186 votes, =162nd place
  3. Mana: 87 votes, =242nd place
  4. Marty: 44 votes, =284th place
  5. Manfloy: 51 votes, =277th place
  6. Dean FE5: 31 votes, =297th place
  7. Lana: 86 votes, =243rd place

What can I say, I’ve been following the same agenda for a decade. Bonus: my Shadows Cup votes by CYL position.

  1. Celine: 599 votes, 54th place
  2. Eliwood: Null votes, won in CYL3
  3. Chiki: 434 votes, 73rd place
  4. Sheeda: 1291 votes, 33rd place

As greedy as it would be to say I backed two winners, I’m not going to claim Tsubasa. The mirage is a different entity, and not who I casted my vote for. But enough self-indulgence, have some moderately more interesting stats instead.

  • Tsubasa broke the 20k marker for the first time since CYL6.
  • The final character with over 1,000 votes is Heroes Lif, in 41st.
  • 100th place is Titania, with 354 votes.
  • The 100 vote marker is shared between Velouria and Fafnir, in 230th.
  • While the CYL website shows three characters with one vote, Pallardo from 3H is completely absent - he got zero votes!
  • Two mainline games lack CYL winners: Thracia 776 and Engage. Tokyo Mirage Sessions is another spinoff ticked: the only other eligible one is Shadows.

And after ten years of voting in these polls, my mission is accomplished. My work here is… not done. Fortune’s Weave may sweep the board, but the Jugdral agenda will continue. I will now start voting for Leaf as an opener. Glory to Thracia!

I hope that Fortune’s Weave gets delayed so we get brave Ivy.
