Brainstorming ideas and wanted to write them down

Hello, I’m new, but I always wanted to learn the basics of rom hacking, even if I don’t have a computer.
Since I don’t have a computer, but I still want to participate in the community, I decided to make an account for this website
So let me introduce myself.
Hello, my name is Evan, I am a young adult going through a tough spot in life, and running my old copy of fire emblem ripped from the Wii U has been really nice since I moved out from home. Seeing as I’ve had so much fun with it, I decided to make a hack, but immediately came to a roadblock. I don’t have a computer capable of running the hacking software, heh.
So I’m posting ideas and stuff here
Middle Earth set fire emblem hack
Ideas for plot - there are couple ideas I have for making a plot work, but it would depend on scale of the story
1: Aragon summons the rangers - the idea is basically a what if you were the tactical head, and worked with Halbarad in recruiting the rangers and fighting in the war of the ring.
In lore it is said that there were aprox 30 rangers recruited for the final battle for the war of the ring, so normally I would say this would need to be a longer hack, but the problem is that I don’t feel that this story is suitable for that, so I would say that the cast needs to be cut by at least a third to make it fit in 10 chapters and to so that you can include some gimli, Aragon and legolas In the final chapter or two.
The details of the hacks story would take inspiration from 2007’s The Lord of the Rings Online so that there is enough characterization for Halbarad so that you actually feel bad for the death of him (books don’t have much of him)
The hack would be 10 - 13 chapter long depending on if you start the story with sarn ford as both an intro and as a tie in to the story of war of the North game of if you want to start with Bree and have a bit more freedom with the tutorial. I personally would go with a war of the North tie in, as that would let us make clear that this is NOT a direct adaptation of the books and more an reimagining of LOTRO, not just the books. This allows for more leeway with character choices, as noone is named in the books except Halbarad. Now all I need is to find out who’s important in the plot of LOTRO, I guess. And how to replace magic users in the gameplay
2: blue wizard story - pretty simply a plot of the war of the ring’s eastern front featuring the two blue wizards.

Modern day set hack ideas
1:Ace Attorney - tbh I haven’t played the games and only have cursory knowledge, but I think it’d be fun characters

Retro futuristic crossover ideas
Star Wars inspired/set hack
1: fire emblem INSPIRED by star wars - this is literally just fire emblem type story, in space, with star wars-esque designs. Itd be cool
2: take it seriously and try to fit fire emblem gameplay in star wars. Might be cool, but I think it’s too much and unnecessary, no matter how much I love star wars.

Doctor Who
1:I just wanna see fire emblem daleks, tbh. If one wanted too, they could merge parts of this with my first idea for a star wars inspired hack to make a more general sci Fi parady

Dirk Gently
1: tbh it’s not really the most suited choice, but I think an electric monk is a fun character idea if done right, and would jive well with the game if taking a humorous tone

Discworld
1: this has alot of potential for a good game that crossover/adapts fire emblem into discworld or vice versa

I’m the end I dunno what makes a good hack or how to even make one yet, so yeah
Thanks for your time

I’m sorry if I seem ignorant, its because I am.
Could you clarify what PNES is?

pick my edits, theres a few of them on feu but they have dipped down a bit

That sounds like a lot of fun for a collaboration project!
You said they dipped down, but who and where do I go to find them?

search the pick_my_edits tag on feu

If you want a good Fire Emblem-esque Lord of the Rings game, may I suggest Lord of the Rings Tactics on the PSP. I played it a ton growing up.

Also Dirk Gently mentioned. Great show that was gone too soon. If the second season was more focused maybe it would have continued. Sad

I know of tactics, I’ve heard good things, but I kinda want more whimsy than in the movies and their games. Less movie styled and more colorful, like in the Magic the gather adaptation’s art
Plus tactics doesn’t have Perma death, so I feel it isn’t as suited for the tragedy of Halbarad’s death at the battle.
Also yeah, dirk gently as a franchise is great. Not only the books, but the comics and tv shows too. Tbh the comic “the interconnectedness of all kings” is probably the best one out of all the adaptions, mostly due to its stand alone nature, but the other comics are still good, I just don’t come back as often to them, and the BBCA TV show is a whole separate beast to the books, not bad by any means, but still different. It’s an inevitable outcome for most any adaption of anything, books especially, like how lotr movies are different from the radio adaptation, or the cartoon adaptation. A good adaptation manages to find a middle ground and both keep it the original franchise/story, while either expanding the audiences perception of the world*, or just being a good story and enjoyable despite it taking liberties. Basically just respect the original and work with it, not against it.
Example of a good adaptation of work by finding common ground in the franchise, medium, and intent include
The Legend of zelda manga adaptations by Akira Himekawa
Multiple lotr adaptations, to varying degrees
Star Wars Spinoffs in both the EU and Disney canon, but due to the sheer bulk, I’m not gonna name examples other than noting the ouroboros of weather grand admiral thrown is an adaptation
Anime adaptations such as dragon ball z are generally this kind of adaptation, and not new stories set in the same universe as the book.
Dragon Ball super movies in particular are explicitly part of the super manga, not the anime, so they would count as alternative media storys of super manga I guess, like how star wars has books set in the same universe?
Superman smashes the klan comic is supposed to be a really good adaptation of the radio series
On the other hand, media that more loosely adapts generally are more like soft reboots

  • I feel that multimedia extended universes are still technically adaptation as well, as they are utilizing other authors work to supplement their own. This is not to say that they are less than the original AT ALL. quite the contrary, as I understand that not only is there alot of pressure on the author of the adaptions by not only the original author, but the fandoms often time are ravenous when it comes to change. Just look at star wars post Disney Thrawn. People will not stop comparing the adaption to the original, so a perfectly good and serviceable story will get torn to shreds. Generally it goes fine, and the new content is sorta infused into the franchise, making an almagate of media that then gets adapted again, but this time with more context. An ever growing universe to get immersed in. That’s the big reason why, in my opinion, the disney canon got off to such a rough start. It ripped out what it wanted from Star Wars and left decades to rot. It eventually improved, but still. Not cool. A better example of retooling a franchise for a new audience/adaptation is Doctor Who, even if

Sorry bout that, I accidentally pressed post early
Anyways

As I was typing, a good adaptation that reworks the franchise is Doctor Who, specifically nuWho era content. now it is debatable if it counts as an adaptation of the original series, as it is a sequel as well as in the same format, but I still consider it an sequel adaptation because
A- it’s a reboot, albeit a soft reboot
B- it’s a different series in more ways than one
C- staff is very different
D- and adaptation can mean many things, it just generally means medium adaptations
Anyways back on task, nuWho brought doctor who into the modern era, keeping it’s history, but not letting it burden it from telling it’s own story. This is probably alot easier due to fluctuating nature of the lore. it standing on own is a vital part of it being a good sequel adaptation as well, cuz if it didn’t it would have to sacrifice quality for clarity of story with exposition dumps and such.
Another good example of a good sequel adaptation is, surprisingly enough, not only dragon ball super and daima, but I would also qualify Gt as a acceptable (at least in concept) adaptation. It’s just that daima did it better by a landslide. i will note that daima is weird in that it is a story direct from Akira Toriyama, so that makes it qualification debatable considering if you consider a franchise a culmination of it’s authors ( ike I do ) or if you consider the original authors work/intent to be a separate source from the franchise in general when it comes to being adapted (this, from what I can tell, is the general Dragon Ball fandom opinion. Another example is how Disney treated Star Wars EU content with their new canon. It may not have been perfect, but at least they stayed relatively consistent with with their decision in keeping pretty much only Lucas’s original movie lore. Even if they made an exception for the exceptional Clone Wars series). This particular dilemma has no “Correct” answer, and is really on more of a franchise to franchise basis.

The art is based on one I found on deviantart by diethe

Star Wars would be a cool direction to take things, that’s a rich untapped mine as far as strategy goes. Plus, jedi are basically knights anyway so it’s not even that much of a stretch to give it FE mechanics. Hopefully when you get access to a computer, you could check out FEBuilder or Lex Talionis (I’ve been using LT and it’s great!). You’ll see that you can create your own weapon types and matchups. I have no idea if this makes sense with the SW canon but for instance you could have a weapon triangle where light sabers beat force powers beat blasters? Just spitballin, I mean really Force beats everything so shrug.

Are there any PMEs active right now?

hehehe, i have a plan for one

Thanks!
Yeah, adapting star wars would be hard, and honestly I can’t figure out a way to fit it into the lore at all, especially due to star wars reliance on lightsabers in its universe as the MAIN weapon. thats why I feel that if one wanted to make a star wars fire emblem game, there needs to be MAJOR compromises, hence why I first proposed a more general space opera that takes heavy cues from Star wars, but is decidedly NOT compatible with it.
I don’t know what would replace lances with, or axes for that matter.or horses/pegasus’s.
Imma spitball some ideas
Generic laser axe and laser lance might work, but that feels kinda lame
Im excited to see more of this PME as well!

Also, I started designing a classic Luke Starkiller design, but am having alot of trouble with the hair and mask.
