Hi all. I love FE8 Romhacks, but I’ve been struggling to play without mouse controls and a really small screen. Therefore: Voila, here is my project, FE8 UI. It’s in beta, and right now you can download it for M1+ Macs, Linux, and kinda but not really Windows.
For some reason, I can’t add links, but you can find it on my GitHub under stephenjayakar/FE8-UI. It works pretty well for the romhacks I’ve tested it on. I finished my run of Archanae already, and was editing it as I found issues (this was the perfect romhack to use, as it has HUGE maps).
Please LMK if it doesn’t work with a hack or feel free to open GitHub issues as I only have so much time to try everything. I’m still adding more features and working on Windows support.

This is very cool! For anyone confused, this is an emulator designed for fe8u, if I’m understanding it right.
I tried it out on both pokemblem and the fe8srr, and while it has a lot of bugs on them, it’s impressive that it works at all imo.
Notes
Intuitively I expect that moving my mouse up/down while a menu is shown will also move my cursor up/down the menu, but that has not been implemented yet.
I also expect that hovering my cursor over a specific red square will target that specific enemy.
Screen seems to render stuff while the screen is faded to black, which means you see things during cutscenes that you aren’t supposed to.
Player phase interface side menus are buggy, especially with the mmb patch. BG1 of mmb is disjointed from the bg0 numbers.
Randomly goes back to just showing 15x10 of the map when I’m scrolling around, and then sometimes back to the big screen. I don’t know why.
First up very interesting and i would love that as a guy who plays lots of fps. 2nd you can’t post links because your trust level is basic try making a Introduction thread and interact with other in that thread to reach member level and then you can post links.
be ware of pyromanics in your future Introduction post they like to hand lit stick of dynamite
I’m kinda shocked it works. Pretty buggy at the moment, although I haven’t used any of the patches recommended for it. Looking forward to see how this project works out.
Here are some mouse cursors I put together. Black and white in 3 different sizes, and a bonus gloved one. They’re F2U and F2E, with credit. Hopefully these are useful to you!
