so true
Just finished recording all the episodes for an LP of this hack. Very enjoyable experience overall! Looking forward to your future projects.
i’m super hype to watch those. i saw the first one and it made me so happy to watch someone play something i made! thank you so much!
It’s been 4 years, but I found myself reminiscing on this hack and wishing to replay it.
One thing I think I didn’t note before that I really like however is the entirely deterministic gameplay. You can’t miss, you will always crit with a killing edge, etc. I would definitely like to see something like this again tried out in more romhacks.
It’s funny looking at my old pictures here because I didn’t realize how starved for exp I felt this time around. Yet in those screenshots my units are all pretty balanced and have multiple levels. Don’t know how I got to do that then, lel.
I just need to make one tiny adjustment to something I said before… I said the Messenger’s combat was “lackluster but that [it didn’t] matter”. Well, I changed my mind on that. Basically both she and Roshea have a really broken ability that allow them to have so much offensive momentum, and that is being able to rescue everyone else and have the highest movement, and canto, etc. BASICALLY, sometimes you really want to have P-Down, D-Up and All or Nothing at the same time on a character and wish you could turn one off or on. The thing about Messenger (and also Roshea but I gave Messenger two levels earlier so this worked better for her) is that she can rescue someone who is holding a ring, and herself holding another, so during any combat scenario she can freely swap with herself for the ring she needs. This came up for me in Ch4, where I had her infiltrate the area with the ballista, I sent her to meet the fighter with Puzon backpacked and with her holding the defensive ring and being sung the defense song, she survived the encounter with the fighter thanks to the axereaver, then next turn swaps around the ring with Puzon to kill the fighter (didn’t need to swap in All or Nothing, but if yours does, just have Puzon trade her that). From there it was a simple matter of dropping Puzon and having both of them chip the ballista down.
In Ch5 I did a similar thing, Puzon on Turn 1 killing edges the archer, then gets rescued by Messenger who’s holding Defense Ring, she gets sung to move out of the ballista’s way and then enemy phases the fighter, then on Turn 2 PP someone else kills the fighter so that her and Canas can rush forward and kill the brigand (she stll has Puzon rescued so she can swap out the defensive and offensive rings) and bingo. Turn 2 and we’re already deep in. Pretty strong combo, high movement and any ring you choose for any encounter. Fliers are always so damn good man…
I might record a clear of the final map just to show off, it’s pretty cool. Maybe if I play this hack again from the start I’ll have Roshea achieve the same level of stardom. ![]()
You should check out Curse of Lagdou if you haven’t for a bit of that deterministic gameplay you mentioned. The crit system allows guaranteed crits based on positioning of allied units
Interesting… thank you for the recommendation.
Hopefully it is not in bad taste to post a video of my own here, seen as shameless self-promotion or such, but here is a six-turn LTC clear of Ch5. I am quite happy and proud of it. A five might be possible, but it doesn’t seem there’s enough space for me to be positioned well to go for it.
Well- I went ahead and did a full LTC of the game while I was at it. Check the description! This one took me multiple re-recording attempts but I am really proud of it ![]()
this is awesome!
After playing hacks like Storge, I wasn’t expecting even more creative hacks like this.
Will definitely have to try this one later, what a find and amazing work Archer.
