Any way to have chapter BGM persist into battles?

I don’t really like having battle themes cut in for like 10 seconds max before the game swaps back to the map music, but is it even possible to have the chapter music persist like that? I still do want to have distinct player and enemy phase themes

I think you should set the battle bgm of both player and enemy units to the map music. Like if your map music has ‘X’ music then set the ‘X’ music for battle bgm of player and enemy units.

See, but that would make both the player and enemy phase battle theme the same, wouldn’t it? Or does the Unique Battle Music Per Unit patch decide which song to play based on who initiated the battle?

Actually, even if that did work, I’d have to set each unit’s song for each map, that’d be hundreds of entries. There’s gotta be an easier way than that

That, and I just found out that patch doesn’t even work? Tried using it, and it just ended up changing the Player Phase battle music to the main menu theme, regardless of what I actually set it to be in the menu

No, it wouldn’t. As far as I remember, battle bgm for players and enemy are different. Just set the player phase bgm and player phase music to same. It’ll work. Don’t mess with enemy phase music and it’ll remain distinct.

Well, ok, where exactly do I change these things? The Unique Battle Music Per Unit patch editor doesn’t seem to work, and I can’t find the menu for the Battle Music By Chapter patch

Of course I can edit the basic fields for Battle-Attack and Battle-Defense, but the two issues with that are 1) that would affect the battle BGM for the entire game, not on a per-chapter basis, and 2) I can only set 2-digit hex addresses in those fields for some reason

It exists in chapter editor, doesn’t it ? You probably don’t need a patch for that.

It sounds like you’re on an FE7 rom and not FE8.

In FE8 there is a patch for map bgm in battle to persist without interruption. Music is also set in the chapter editor for FE8 so you can choose what music plays per phase.

As far as I know FE7 has no way to set chapter specific battle bgm (aside from boss music). Map music is set in the chapter editor, but battle bgm is set for attack and defense (the track address can be changed via patches, but it’s not per chapter).

Yeah, I’m on FE7 currently. Sounds like the two patches I mentioned probably only work in FE8, which is a shame.

Guess I’ll just find a pair of songs I can use in short bursts for generic battle themes and put them in the section with the 2-digit hex addresses (since for whatever reason, the battle BGM editor only lets me use music with 2-digit codes?)

In FE7, the option I believe you’re talking about is replaced by the “Hector Map Music” options. There’s no way (as far as I can tell) to change the battle BGM without patches
