A dedicated Writing subforum would do us a world of good.

Currently, writing-related threads are scattered across all sorts of places like the Community/Questions/Design/Creative sections, which makes them harder to find and limits the kind of in-depth discussion writers need. Writing discussion threads are naturally slower than other types of threads, so they’re bumped to the front page less frequently.

Sure, we could just discuss the writing of Fire Emblem games and fangames on dedicated writing sites like Nanowrimo and Writing subreddits and assorted Discords, but how much better would it be to have a dedicated location for this tailored to our unique needs? A space for writers who appreciate and understand Fire Emblem can only produce better stories, games, and writers, all while keeping discussion accessible and organized.

Users can share drafts, writing prompts, style guides and other creative resources, discuss the Story/Character arcs/Plot/Dialogue of Fire Emblem, give critiques, maybe even collaborate. It’ll be great! And I’m sure it won’t be overtaken by the neverending cyclical arguments of Three Houses discourse.

This could start with a trial period of 3-6 months. If engagement is high it can stay, and if not, we can delete the subforum and its threads can be moved elsewhere without loss.

Thank you for considering this.

Jason, i think you should make your own thread for your own writing (and your takes, glorious may they be). I am serious.

I would personally love this myself…definitely not because I wrote an entire faux-golden route to 3H that I would love for more people to see. Definitely not for that specific reason.

If you’d like to showcase a standalone written work of yours, please post it in Creative. If the volume of such threads is high enough, we’ll consider creating a subcategory.

Thanks for the quick response! I understand the hesitation to make a new subforum without clear demand, but that apparent lack of demand is created by the way the site scatters writing-related threads across multiple sections (Community, Questions, Design, Creative, etc.), which makes them harder to find and reduces engagement. Every time a new writing-related thread is made, the user has to ask themselves “Where should this go?” when each of these possible locations have other far more numerous types of posts (the community’s assorted general discussions, FE Builder and romhacking help requests, game design threads, art and animation threads). A dedicated writing space wouldn’t add clutter, it would consolidate those posts and give people who want to focus on writing a dedicated space.

In the meantime, would it be possible to start with a pinned “Writing Hub” thread in Creative? That would give us a place to gather drafts, prompts, resources, critiques, and so on, while also making it easy to measure actual activity and interest. If that hub grows consistently, it could be a natural stepping stone toward the Writing subforum. That way we can prove the activity, while giving that activity a dedicated place to breathe and organize and grow naturally.
