[WIP FE8 Hack] - Eliwood's Outrealm Adventures (14 Playable Maps)

I put out a small hotfix build. Was notified that Chulainn was using one of Lyn’s death messages. I also fixed Chapter 11’s music, somehow forgot to put Strike and Defense there.

Hey sorry for the delays. Sparking Zero is eating up a fair bit of time (ITS PEAK), and I’ve been struggling to make unique maps for the Xenologues. I’ve finally got a few made mostly proper, and started the eventing for one which is the “Flooded Dragon’s Gate”.

Fog AND Rain? Yeah, dumb idea, but I actually don’t know how to get the rain to limit movement. Was it even used in FE8? Either way, it’s started. The Fog is 7 tiles, so it’s pretty light, but since this is in a chain of chapters, each one gets less vision range.

I wish I had more to add here, but there really isn’t much else I could say other than I tried and failed to port Etrian Odyssey 3 music. I’m sure I’ll get that spark of inspiration I need to really get back to work on this.

TLDR: Made a couple maps, started some events, Sparking Zero is Peak, thank you for waiting on my dumb project lmao

By default, FE8 classes are set to have lower movement in rain weather, like in FE7 (see in class editor). That should persist unless you went out of your way to change that.

Yes, I’m still working on the hack. I dunno how often I should post updates here, but here’s a new one. Have a random mishmash of stuff that’s been made lately, starting with a map made by a buddy. This map is for one of the Xenologues, so it’s optional… but it looks cool.

Then there’s some music ports I made, like Scarlet Rain, Where Endless Time was Exceeded, and Ok? All Correct!.

Progress on the hack was slowed down a bit due to previous projects involving a Pokemon hack I work on, and replaying all of Final Fantasy 2 (The one with Firion) like an idiot instead of working on something lol. All In All, should maybe hopefully speed up now™

I’m still working on everything. On the move to my new PC, I actually managed to lose a coooouple things, but I’ve made alot of progress since my last post so maybe I’ll actually post a new demo soon lol. I’ve just been far too much of a perfectionist when it comes to the new content, and I’m waiting for some new portraits to finally replace the F2E Recolors I’ve been using for some units.

The progression on the Xenologues is going very well. I’ve been making sure to test things much more heavily as of late too. I’ve also been juggling this project with ones for Fire Emblem Fates, Engage, and even unrelated games like a Translation project for a Java Mobile title. I apologize for the long wait, but it will still take some time before anything new is playable. My Engage project is a bit more important at the moment, and so is making sure this is a high quality hack, even if I’m still technically inexperienced compared to many in the community. It’s tough working on it solo, but it’s fun!

Hello brother. Excuse me. This is a GBA hack? And how has the development of the game been? I will wait to enjoy this hack

I… Struggle to see how you would be unsure if this is a GBA project or not with the tags and such… But yes, it is on the GBA. There’s even posts earlier in the thread with the hack running on a GBA SP and DS Lite.

As for progress, it’s been mixed. As stated in my most recent post, my focus was to be my Fates and Engage projects first. As of this post, the fates one has been completed for some time, and the Engage one is nearing completion for another update. Making all of the modded units for that work proper takes quite some time!


Adding Lumera’s image in the top left took way more effort than originally thought

For this project, I’ve been rewriting some scenes, adding others where needed as well. I’ve swapped how some units join the party, implemented more strict requirements to obtain others, that kind of deal. I’ve also received 2 / 5 new original portraits I need to replace the F2E portraits I have been using as placeholders. I’ve also worked on some more of the map data. All in all, it’s been pretty productive! I’ve been trying to figure out a way to better balance the Experience Gain from combat, as the hack is meant to be played as “Near the end of many journeys” to where many units are already nearly capped level. It’s a bit annoying, but I’m figuring out things slowly.

Also I’m playing Berwick Saga for the first time so progress will be a bit slower for a bit lol

Chapter 4X is getting an overhaul, since I decided it was too lazy. 3rd screenshot shows it. Credits have been added properly for new assets long in advance as well.

So because of my absolute genius (utter incompetence) my project very quickly approached 30 Megabytes. I’ve as such, done a rom rebuild, and recruited some people who are helping with playtests. I want to make sure the rom rebuild did not break anything before I continue editing the chapters and such.

I’m going to be looking for a few extra playtesters soon as well. If you or anyone you know have a GBA Flash Cartridge, please do let me know! I could always use more data from real hardware.

All in all, it’s a bit to handle. If there’s any genius ways of altering the EXP formula so I can make it more uh… Sane, that would be nice. Due to me relying mostly on auto-leveled enemies, the Levels wildly vary, so I should probably find a better way to balancing things out, eh?

I am very inefficient with romspace, and didn’t realize editing old assets would still increase romsize instead of overwriting it

Oh yeah, i have a 3DS, did you know that it has GBA hardware via the DS internals inside?

While the 3DS does have native backwards compatibility via a 3DS GBA VC import, or open_agb_firm, it’s actually noted to be less accurate than other forms of playing. open_agb_firm is also marked as open beta to this day, and has already been used for much of the playtesting.

It appears that my EZ Flash Omega cartridge has managed to brick itself, so progress is going to be slowed a bit. I still have my low quality SuperCard SD, but that is not nearly accurate enough for my current testing. Need to rush order a new one…

I have a GBA everdrive and can play on an SP. What do you need tedted? Or just the whole hack?

Progress is going well. I got a couple people who have actually posted in this thread before to help with real hardware testing. The todo list is shrinking little by little. I also even got permission to use some Chinese created animations not currently in the repo or US sources yet, so that’s pretty cool.

I have not been the most active on the hack for a little bit due to yet another of my projects, but I’m still working on everything. Also I’ve played FAR too much Octopath lately. So blame that for the lack of progress lol

I decided to only add things to this post that were new or altered, and not repeat previous stuff.

I’ve actually altered some smaller parts of the story, and scrapped Hector’s side quests. Instead, I reused two of the three maps as story chapters, and to slow down the gain of new units. A bit of a longer story, I figured 14 total story chapters would be nice.

I’ve also spent some time fixing various small issues the playtesters had with the latest builds, one of them even flat out crashing the game after a Rom Rebuild. Turns out, replacing the CG Images was not a good idea, so I had to scrap ever showing the credits.

I also spent time making boxart? Like, I know other hacks sometimes do it, but I started doing this for other hacks I’ve made a while ago. Though, this is only the 2nd one I’ve made more than a concept of.

For now, have a fun little bug while I was working on some eventing. Remember to disable your earthquake events everyone! Thank you for waiting warmly for this hack.
