The King's Last Wish [COMPLETE]

Already done with this awesome hack! Thank you for making it! My favorite character is Helgen with her Saint Staff healing all others!

I’m having an issue with Chapter 15, for some reason I don’t have any option to talk with Wesley and I seem to be softlocked. I’ve tried replaying the chapter, suspending and resuming, so on and so forth but nothing seems to be working. Am I just stupid and I’m completely missing something? I’ve really enjoyed the hack so far, and I’d hate to not be able to continue playing.

Thanks for reporting this. I have just re-uploaded the patch fixing the issue. You can re-download and continue from your current save.

Trying out the hack. Is the one in Dropbox the latest patch?

Yes it is.

Is it just me but I can’t talk to Wesley with Osborn in chapter 15?

Yes, this issue was reported a few weeks ago and has since been fixed. Please re-download and apply the latest patch. You will be able to continue with your current save file from there.

I’d just like to say that v3.1 has just been released and that (barring any game-breaking bugs), this will be the final update that this hack receives. I am now working on a new hack that will hopefully be of a much greater quality than this one. Creating this hack has been a learning experience for me in hacking, map design, difficulty, game balance, etc, and I hope that I can learn from my mistakes creating this hack and use that to create a much more enjoyable experience for my next one. I won’t be able to reveal anything just yet, but I will say that it will be much more ambitious than this one with custom portraits, classes, events and overall much better map design and a more detailed story. Thank you to everyone who played the hack and gave feedback. The details for the final update can be found below:

Patch notes

Not compatible with old save files

 • Fixed a rare issue where if you were surrounded by 3 enemy warriors, they would triange attack you.

 • Royce’s death now causes a game over on chapter 2.

 • The prologue and chapter 2 are now full-party escape objectives with no restrictions on who must escape last.

 • Other minor changes.

which way to escape?

Please redownload and reapply the patch and restart the chapter from the beginning and it should work. I think you may have downloaded the old patch before this was fixed. After you do that, you should be able to escape via the stairs in the bottom left.

This was really fun, thanks for making it! There’s a lot I love here. I love the unusual recruitment requirements on some of these units, I love that you can actually use the S rank axe early on if you wexp train using a devil axe, I love that you used gold as a difficulty slider instead of merely increasing enemy stats, I love that you straight up lose your legendary weapons, if only for a chapter (was not expecting that, would have used them a LOT more if had known, i really should have expected it), and I love that the final chapter isn’t just a single big hard dark wizard/zephiel clone/monster and is instead a bunch of insane units with varied abilities you need to work around, and I love that they actually get stronger if you’re too slow on the preceding map, and I also love that there’s turn count rewards. I don’t care about LTC but I was tempted to rush to get boots anyway.

The gameplay was generally good all around, even on the simple “rush forward and seize” maps, like (iirc) 19. The one with the general with a rune sword. Taking apart that huge defensive formation in front of the door was good fun.

I really enjoyed the plot being so different, I wasn’t expecting going into this that it’d revolve around destroying the legendary weapons.

One thing I didn’t love though, were the characters. To be honest I never got attached to any of the party members, except maybe gregory and Oswald himself. I admired that he was willing to sell his crown in order to accomplish his goal. On that note I also loved his uncle as a character, he’s a delightful scheming asshole and probably the best villain in the hack. He’s the perfect kind of “love to hate them” villain back to the party though, a lot of them never really talked besides their introduction, and Piper I don’t think ever spoke a word. It honestly reminded me of playing FE1 at times. I think for your next project that’s an area to work on.

There was a part of the plot I didn’t understand.
Osborn’s dad was in on it the whole time. Fair enough, but then why was he killed? Didn’t both he and the villain have the same goal? Or was the idea that Osborn’s father willingly died putting on a show in order to set his son down the path of fulfilling the plan?

Also unrelated to that, I never used the valkyrie staff, why didn’t Wesley just res his kid? Honestly if I had been given the option I’d have done it.
Sorry for all that being disorganized, I just beat the hack and wanted to get my thoughts out.

Tl;Dr I enjoyed it overall, the gameplay was pretty fun, there were so many moments in both gameplay and plot where I was just going “that’s such a cool idea!”.

I’m going to check out duty calls next

Thank you so much! It’s always nice to see people appreciate my older projects, even if I’m not wholly happy with them to this day. To answer some of your questions:

Agreed. Duty Calls has more characters contributing to the main plot than just the main two (Osborn and Royce). Obviously I can’t practically involve everyone, as characters can die, and the branch scenarios for if certain units are dead can quickly spiral out of control. For example, having an extra 2 playable characters in a scene requires me to write 4 different conversations to account for different deaths.

The rationale was that Norlumbria would never get on side with their weapon unless through peaceful means. His father’s death made it seem more realistic. It would have also been difficult to get the church on side, with their weapon (although they had a backup plan for that, as you saw on chapter 5/6).

I did think about this at the time. I don’t fully remember to be honest, but I think the rationale was that even if he resurrected him, he would still be corrupted, so there was no point. I had also considered actually allowing you to do that at one point to get an extra late-game staffer, but I didn’t know how to code it properly, ha! If I’d known what I know now, I’d probably have included it.

As for Duty Calls, you might want to hold off on playing the demo (only the first 9 chapters), as I intend to release the full version in under a week, and your progress will not be transferable.

Did not know you were working on a new project. I will wait for it to be release.
