The Hag in White [COMPLETE]

Spoiler Reply

I need to figure out how to recruit Telemus on my next run, I found the house where the woman begged me not to kill him but the game wouldn’t let me talk to him or anything… The beard is magnificent, the Leadership star is nice and it means I can drop Soter earlier.

You can go to the bottom of the map and Escape / leave him alone and he’ll join later. He doesn’t join until early 16 so don’t worry, in my case it’s just that my Soter’s stats were 18/13/18/11/8/19/11 so I was like “huh, guess I got a good deal from the insurance company for once.”

Spoilers question

Did you figure out if Child Dolus was recruitable? They talk about needing to have gotten there faster to save him but I don’t know how fast I’d need to be, or if that’s just flavor. Surely this recruitment isn’t stricter than a Binding Blade Gaiden chapter?

I left off on ch 18 so I’ll have to leave this one up to someone else if they know, sorry.

Dolus V is not recruitable in the main campaign (he joins as a postgame recruit)

His death is kinda necessary for the plot since old fart Dolus is literally dying and needs the younger Dolus’ life force anyway

Main Story completed! Now I’m very curious to see what details a second playthrough changes. I’ll go through the postgame first, though.

Spoilers for the ending

Elias had more Death Flags than a wife in a bad action movie, but good lord :c I was thinking either he or Dolus V would of given their life force to save the other, but what happened was pretty much the worst case scenario. Seeing the characters you can get in the postgame, I missed getting Lorenzo too. That whole plot arc had a sad ending, and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Special Thanks to Sandy for being absolutely awful, indeed.

…the key to beating the last boss was a broken wall. This romhack does a lot of really fun subversions on the Fire Emblem formula, but the big thing that takes down the bad guy being a broken wall and physics, rather than A cool sword or spell taking down a A Giant Evil Demon Dragon is just one of those small details that makes me like the Hack even more.

And some obligatory team screenshots/thoughts

Kyra was all around a good protagonist. With a good motivation and pretty good stats, she saw some pretty frequent use. Once she promoted and got Light Magic, she primarially used that until she got the Cupid, which became her main vehicle for killing from then on.

It’s da Hag! And she gained a single point of strength. Obviously the best unit in the game, but also surprisingly tanky for the first third thanks to her regeneration. Now where are you hiding the warp staff. where is it apate i know you have it it’s bullshit you’re not using it cmon

She reminds me of Dark Stone Riev a lot. Since he was my favorite character in that hack, this is a good thing.

He’s long surpassed her stat wise, but not having Powerstaff holds him back just a little bit. The Scroll I have him let him have a 5 percent skill growth and it procced thrice. Character wise, I liked him a lot.

…I think Lopez has been eating his wheaties, because I legit can’t believe his strength growth is 25. His life is like a video game, always trying to beat the stage, all while he is still collecting coins :c

Writing wise, my personal favorite, and since magic swords were fun to use he’s also a gameplay favorite! The conversations he has with Hecate and Fazang match my own IRL feelings on faith and institutions. I had him face Soter, but the one who struck him down went to another…

Probably my best character, which makes their arc about just wanting to go back home funny as hell. You are armored and shoot dark magic like Dr Doom. And Doom fears no man!

I always sent all three of the bandits as a trio, so these guys ended up feeling alike. And since they were alike in the “make everyone else dead” way, that was fine by me.

I like Axe Cavs, so she instantly had a slot on the team. Most of her defense actually came later, for most of the game she was a glass cannon. Her arc with her Dad was really good.

I liked her design, and figured Witch would have to be a mounted class and I really needed those, so I ended up using her long term. Turns out she had some pretty major plot relevance.

Like Melina before her, was the one to put down her own daughter.

The name Wulfric is really cool, and his relationship with Tiresias was a highlight for me. Great Knight having 7 move means I got to see its really cool sprite more often, too.

My first merc pick. I wanted to learn more about him, but didn’t. That’s okay though, those stats did the talking. Had a panic attack the first time he vanished without a trace though and thought my game glitched.

Yeah, two witches. I wasn’t gonna use her… but then I learned who she was. After that, I raised her to get one kill. You can probably guess which one.

I had a free space on my team and a spare growth scroll. I could of used a pre promote. But my love of fucked up gimmicky units will always smash through common sense. I love this man.

Delilah was not at the final battle, but I did use her until that point. Probably not the best and more useful for her leadership star than anything else… but Jane is also correct. Anyway, she wasn’t used, because…

I mean. How could I not? He’s almost everything I love in wackier characters, and had a support with my best unit. Amazing that the brothers don’t even support eachother, the only thing that would be funnier if he had a one sided C support with Pluto like how Carlyle had a one sided support with Ismarie in Dark Stone.

I wanted to get revenge for the 'lil guy, and it was nice seeing her fight side by side with her true love.

All and all, I had a really fun time and the story had me hooked really quickly. Amazing soundtrack choices too, “For the Savior” is my favorite Lufia 2 track and it makes a good recruitment theme.

Dropping by for some Hag in White memes dump. But wow, I continue to be impressed by everything! It’s insane the amount of things I’ve missed after talking to another Hag in White’er but it just makes me look forward to another run. And I just love the base camp interactions, especially the conversations between Kyra and Hestia.

Memes inside but light spoilers up to Ch 15, caution is advised.

Generals are really GOOD!

Telemus is a good replecement for Soter, though I was expecting to use 3 generals between Soter, Alonso and Telemus, now i only get to use two of them and my Soter was the bulkier one with 44 hp, 21 def and 13 res, he also had good offensives with 15 magic and 13 speed (16 atk but who cares about atk on generals? Flux goes brrrr) he also had S rank anima magic, I guess now Alonso will have to carry the team.

If anybody remembers, my Soter died to a wall in chapter 4, So I’ll need one of them generals.

I am having some trouble with Chapter 22. I can’t trigger the event that lowers the bridge. I’ve rescue-dropped the bridgekeeper onto the red house near the bridge (which was highlighted briefly after talking to her) which I assume is what should trigger the event but nothing is happening.

You need to visit the house while holding onto the green unit then she does her thing iirc @IcicleDisaster

Thank you for sharing your impressions!

Some spoilerific thoughts

Sadly, Elias and Dolus V both do end up saving someone at the end of their lives, but of course it’s not one another. The change of heart Lorenzo undergoes thanks to Elias potentially leads to Kyra giving him a second chance, provided you figure out how to keep him from throwing his life away. It’s too bad, but hey, there’s always next run.

Glad you enjoyed the grand finale! I have to partially credit playtester Pengaius there. Originally the sequence was a more heavily scripted “beat the boss 5 times and then they fall”, he suggested making the player break the wall themselves to add an extra bit of unique interactivity to the encounter.

Of course, the argument can be made that there was a legendary spell that was the big thing that took the bad guy down. It’s just, it wasn’t the heroes wielding it, it was the villain.

Thank you for sharing your team as well! Some popular picks, a few less popular picks, that’s nice to see-- Pluto AND Plato?!

That’s fucking awesome.

It’s funny you mention that one. I haven’t played Lufia 2 in my life. I just stumbled into that track on youtube reccs and then when I was making Hag I suddenly remembered it and thought it’d sounded pretty recruitmentish lol

You know, I think I was a happier man before seeing this.

Anyway, Word of God says canon.

Enjoying my time so far, on ch4 right now!

Minor non-gamebreaking bug: I think that the L button battle skip does not work on any battle involving Soldiers?

That doesn’t make much sense. Are you perhaps trying it on the boss of chapter 4? Because boss animations cannot be skipped, period.

That’s what I thought…but the soldier recruit you get from the same chapter also couldn’t be skipped? Maybe it’s just this chapter - will test!

Hestia

My Hestia is on fire, they just keep having extremely good lvl ups i’m pretty sure they’re blessed in every single stat except for res, they’re almost as bulky as my generals xd

It’s hestia time!

Oof, didn’t realize that. Rip bozo :joy:

Sucks that we don’t get Soter back postgame

Yeah that’s fine, don’t worry about it. Boss version has hard mode bonuses.

Uhhh, look, I kinda appreciate the gesture but

That’s AI art isn’t it? Kind of getting those vibes from the fact that neither of those characters look anything like the characters from the hack. I’m sorry but Kyra being built like a generic anime girl and the hag with a kindly face and white hair is just incorrect.
