Gland and Franchester, two countries with a unique hatred for one another. Major deputes revolving around border control, trade negotiations, and simple patriotism have caused relations to fester into hatred. After a 20-year ceasefire, the two redeclared war in order to truly end the war with a victor. 5 years into the campaign, King Edwin of Gland has led his army outside Franchester’s capital. Will his army be enough to secure a victory?
My entry for SIGURD Contest and my first ROM hack. This is an FE8 hack where you survive for 15 turns. This hack includes a manual containing the plot and credits.
Edit: The intended difficulty is supposed to be Hard, but you can pick a lower on if it gets too overwhelming.
Credits:
Ballista Battle Animation - Seal (Got dummied out, but might as well credit, since it’s still in the code.)
Light Spear item Icon - Yerek
Portraits made with the Graphics Repo portrait creator.
Congratulations on finishing your first hack! Just beat it.

The idea here was pretty cool, I liked the concept of very limited healing & requiring Capture/Steal to gain more. There were also so many items to Capture/Steal here - from stat boosters (including Swiftsoles) to fun staves like Berserk. I liked what you had going with the story, especially the decoy king & the ending - reusing Eirika’s death quote but having it still make sense in context was funny. The addition of rain around turn 10 was nice too.
However, the map itself is ridiculously big - one of the largest FE maps I’ve played outside of FE4, and… there really was no reason for this. There were very few enemies, all of which were almost pathetically weak (I was playing on Normal since it wasn’t clear what the intended difficulty was - from a quick glance on Difficult, it looks like it did have more enemies, but I managed to reach turn 11 there doing nothing but spamming end turn, so uh), so most of the time most units did nothing except for (very slowly) moving from one side of the map to the other. I feel like you could’ve cut the map size in half, if not more, without really losing anything - enemies could still come from all sides and pressure you, but at least your army won’t be so spread out that it takes forever to move around.
There were also a ton of skills, which could’ve been overwhelming, but that didn’t really matter since again, there were pretty much zero threats - I ended up routing despite it being a survive chapter. This was also a bit immersion breaking, since this was supposed to be The Last Stand, yet I was never close to surrounded or pressured. The boss was a bit tough though and did kill my General at least.
Overall, it was still a neat concept, even if the execution is flawed - which makes a lot of sense considering it’s your first hack. It’s actually pretty impressive for one - it’s definitely significantly better than my first attempt! Looking forward to seeing what you’ll make in the future
Thank you for the feedback and for playing my hack. The intended difficulty is supposed to be hard, and it was my mistake for not clarifying. Normal was supposed to be an easier alternative, but as you said, I might have made it too easy.
