Parallel Emblem (New Demo released) ~ Twist and Étoiles Tale - Part 2 completed WIP

Hello everyone,

right upfront as of now there isn’t a new update I want to announce. However I managed to hit a massive checkpoint in my life. I’m done with school, I found a job and for the first time in years I feel that I can be certain about my future or at least more certain than usual. I’ve dealt with some personal problems and started to be more creative again. Overall I feel much happier than during the time I started working on this project. It might sound cringe but I’d say the difference between me then and now is comparable to Pre- and Post Timeskip Marianne. Quite fitting, considering the game is now 5 years old. Due to the busywork and stress this year, we decided not to participate in FEE3 2024.

Enough about that, more on the project. In theory I now have much more time than before. There is, as always, stuff to do that I’ll prioritize. And a habit of mine to work on multiple different projects at the same time won’t make me put in every single second of free time I have. But I don’t want to think of Parallel Emblem as work, it always has been fun to do it and it will be even better to do so now that I won’t have to hold myself back anymore.

In order to continue working on the game I began to type out the text and I’ve reached the end of Part 2. This means the finale is getting closer. And having all that text done means no more writers block to stop me as well as simple copy and paste.

As for a new release, I do wanna wait until I can present something that provides multiple hours of fun and that I can be proud to present. Much of the things released to public had an ammount of new stuff that cannot be compared to new contents of older versions. I don’t think the people who tested earlier versions still have their save files to progress the games. Those who still do can comment here, I’d be interested and impressed. Netherless while there will be changes and polishes in text here and there thats not comparable to completely new content to explore. Both new and older players should be able to get something out of it.

Retrogamer wanted to add: “Hey, Im also alive. I just turned in my final paper and hopefully I will pass. In the meantime I have free time. So the progress of our hack can once again pick up some pace. Life is always busy and this project is following us for a couple of years by now. Im eager to make a lot of sprites and animations for it”

Slowly but steadily I’ll work myself back into a routine of development. There has never been a time this long that I’ve been disconnected from it so it is a bit difficult ngl. I hope to see you again, once there are presentable results. I feel this post doesn’t give much information, but at the very least its a sign that we’re still alive and more ready than ever to continue the project. I did not want to go silent until a new patch is showing up.

So, the first month of returning to active development has passed and we already finished almost 2 chapters, inserted some new animations and images and I reached the final three (or four) chapters in terms of writing. One of those uses a gimmick that was interesting to figure out and the next chapter too will feature an unusal thing I have not seen in a hack before but it wouldnt surprise me if someone already did something similar. At the time of writing this I’m unsure if it’ll work without issues but we’ll see.

I am a bit anxious if we will manage to keep the max memory limit of GBA Roms. Not that there wasn’t a “Insert Disc 2” Romhack already. It has a charm. But it’d also be cool to just rip this for a real cardridge which wouldn’t work then.

If you want to guess what the gimmick of our latest finished chapter is, here’s a tip: It uses a total of 42 always active ranged based events. In a way it is similar to the Ghost mansion shown in a previous FEE3.

I don’t know if I’ll do these posts every month but I think it might be fun to keep this thread more active after so many long periods of nothing. I also don’t know if I should provide screenshots, because while they might lure in more players, we want to keep some cool things secret. Dunno, this thread was so silent, we will see if I can keep some momentum.

Another year has passed. Its been now 4 years since we’ve started doing this. Well, technically 5 soon, we only posted it on FEU in november 2020.

Anyway, I think chances are good we might finish it 2025. That’d be a good goal. But we will see.

This month consisted of way too many “Change Units Status at Coordinates XY” for every single tile they affect and Tile Change events. But it will result in the perhaps last gimmick chapter of the game and I hope it becomes somewhat memoreable. I just today managed to finish the winning conditions in a way that I like and am happy that the next thing we will do now is going to be enemy placement, village loot, etc. I wonder if you can take a guess on what this chapter might be?

We also got the very good idea to turn every dagger into Brave weapons. What could possible go wrong?

I hope you’re looking forward to December. This year I’ll try to make myself a more cozy christmas feeling with much less stress than the previous years. We even have a Friday the 13th. I like these days, actually. But thats offtopic.

Other than that most progress consisted of pretty overhauls from sprites, animations, support conversations and even menus thanks to Retrogamer. The second chapter we began last month has been done as well. We even found a proofreader, that is very cool.

Happy Zappy New Year folks.

We have reached the enemy placements of the final chapter of Part 2, just before 2025. And I have begun to write the ending of the story. Not that I’m finished after that, buuuut lets say sometimes you really need to write these parts you wanted to write all this time. It helps with motivation.

We have almost bested our record in terms of finished chapters per month. But the stable streak of 1 per month is a good enough pace. There is still room for polishing after all.

From Testing, the Brave effect on daggers is really fun. It turns the thieves into much better combatants while not making them the best or most efficient choices and gives Schwert the nische he desperately needed. A very specific dagger on the other hand has turned into a weapon that’d make Kaga proud. Which begs the question if it is actually a dagger at this point…

Our new years goal will be to release a new demo in 2025, asap after we finished Part 2.

As for the way the chapter we finished this month will play, lets just say Fearghasts new video was perfectly timed.

Hello there.

It is already march, time flies by. But to be honest, to me it currently feels like a chewy gum. It stretches and stretches without any end in seight. Which on one hand would be awesome if it weren’t for the fact that it feels not so good.

The last two months were not so good for me. I do hope that this changes starting this month but we will see about that. I have taken meassures and began to work on some video projects in the meantime that helped me to stay productive and get some positivity. Most of them are in german and the rest unrelated to this project or FE as a whole so I don’t give any links. But that too could change in the future.

Due to this I didn’t write the monthly update posts that I’d like to keep up. It’s not that there was no progress at all but inserting the text of two chapters feels not too worth mentioning despite the ammount of dialouge. This is whats on the schedule next though and what breathes life into everything.

Yeah time can go faster when you don’t want it without much done.
I played a little and I like so far. Nice way of how it intergrates characters we know and new ones.

Hi!
After a long hiatus I’m happy to say that the workflow returned (for now). I managed to get back to work on the hack and so far I was able to keep it up. Helped that I just reached a favourite part of mine.

So… We’re almost at the finale of Part 2. We still gotta test the maps in a regular playthrough. Theoretically it all works. But who knows what happens once we finished implementing the story there and all… :eyes:

This will bump up the ammount of chapters up to 26, if I didn’t miscalculated. The alterations from chapters of Part 1 not included.

I am really excited to see if we managed to nail the gimmicks of chapters without them being like Revelations. (And I hope nothing breaks…) - Also, I do wonder if the concept of a Visual Novel like Story works in a game like this. Personally I tend to get a bit nervous if I can’t save between chapters. Until I realized that GBA FE just automatically saves when you defeat a boss or you are at the turn that let you do that final movement. Or just use the suspend feature right. Overall I don’t think the GBA FE Engine isn’t 100% suited for the scope we ended up trying to achieve. But its a neat challenge not gonna lie. Old games and their limitations always strike me with their charm.

P.S. This is offtopic and I only write it since I will probably forget this very soon and dunno where else to post it. Its one of those brainfart moments if you know what I mean. But I can’t wait for the fifth Marth-Series entry L.E.I.F (Let Everyone Introduce Factions - Where you have to come up with the different factions such as antagonists and allies as well as their kingdoms, goals, lifestyles and so on of a potential Fire Emblem game. All with some classes and stuff. Don’t know if that fits quite well enough into that pattern. But it’d be a cool story practice nonetheless.)

P.P.S I got into Warhammer and built Eld and Ètoile. Don’t ask why she has a lance, she won’t get one through Promotion but I built her with spare bits and was to lazy to sculpt a flag, lol.

A new month has begun. And so did the road to the next demo!

We have now reached the End of Part 2 and are working on doing the final tasks before we think the thing is in a releasable state. As always we are looking forward to new feedback from you. Its always rare to see posts or the likes during WIP projects but for everything that we did recieve we are all the more grateful.

As for when the new demo is going to be released, weeeell lets say there is this game called The Hundred Line - Last Defense Academy which is a quite fun Strategy Game and has lots of routes and endings that I am kinda addicted to lately. Its essentially Cerulean Crescent in terms of how different and fun the units are to play with and like Three Houses but the repeating maps don’t bother me so much. However I will make sure to dedicate more time to the project whenever I can. First World Problems, I know, things have become a lot better recently. I even started to draw again~

Now then, I hope you will have a good start into the week and for June in general. Make sure to stay hydrated, its getting hot. Lets hope for some good Summer Alt Pngs in FEH. And we’ll read us later!

I just came across this project, and I must say it has piqued my interest. I’ve just downloaded the patch and am looking forward to experiencing the demo as soon as I find the time. That being said, I believe it would be beneficial if there were additional screenshots available to give a clearer idea of what exactly the romhack entails. It would certainly help provide a better understanding of its content and gameplay mechanics. I hope to see an update soon.

A new Demo is here!

After almost 2 years, we proudly announce the release of Version 0.7. which marks the End of Part 2 and the beginning of the last segment in terms of Parallel Emblems Development. We plan to add additional Gaiden Chapters in the future. But for now, the entire story section of this part is done. We hope you will enjoy to continue on if you still got your save files, or that this encourages you to give the game another shot.

You can find it in the Downloadschannel of this thread or in our discord.

Changelog:
-A total of 8 new chapters including another Gaiden that form Part 2 of this game
-All Daggers are brave Weapons now, making thieves better in combat and accidentally buffing Schwert.
-Some new animations and fixes
-10 new playable characters including new classes to the bunch
-Knight Crests only promote Knights and Cavalry Units now to balance things better
-Hero Crests promote Soldiers as well as the typical rest now, making Gear an actual consideration to promote
-Orions Bolt has been replaced by a new Promotion Item to evolve Archers and Turneds
-Pegasus Knights can promote to Dark Fliers now
-Various Nerfs, Buffs and fixes to Units stats and growth rates
-You might wanna give Twist an A Support before the end of Part 2… Who knows what will happen? (Not all A Supports are supported for this secret…)

Older Savefiles from 0.5 onwards should be compatible. The demo will bring you back to the beginning of the final chapter once you beat it.

If you decide to play and even finish the game we would love to see which units you picked and how you used them. They are not as crazy as in Cerulean Coasts or the likes but we still wanted to keep them unique in their own ways.

I’ve been playing through the new patch and am on chapter 12, I’m trying to recruit Cherry but when I step near the canal she doesn’t appear instead Nihilus does. I’m playing on mgba on retroarch

Thank you so much for this bug report, I have fixed this now and uploaded a Hotfix Patch.

Most recent Version is now 0.7.1 where Cherry should appear instead of an enemy Nihilus now as well as some other minor bugs found in Chapter D3 and the second Finale.

Edit: I did another Update, the most recent version is now 0.7.1.1 - I noticed some other little things and added the ability to call the tactics option at the beginning of many more chapters. Its not fully done and I will update these and add missing tactic conversations in general soon.

Is there any way, I could try out the demo, this concept for a fire emblem game sounds amazing andI would love to be a part of it!

Another year has passed (again) and we the team of Parallel Emblem wish you a merry christmas.
We make steady progress, writing more supports, touching up some portraits, writing the story and we are making a snow map at the moment. Really fitting to the christmas setting.
We are the closest we’ve been ever to finish this project and we hope to release it next year as the first full version, but we can’t promise that yet.
If you haven’t check out this years fee3 video and we really appreciate some feedback on what you like or dislike thus far in the game @ZWolfstar is a really great support atm. He gave us feedback and is going all off the text and Im trying to incorperate all of the edits, but the list is long. But really appreciated! So shout outs to you.

But we thank everyone who helped us with any form of feedback or febuilder help.
