[LT] Fire Emblem: Andromeda (Acts 2 out of 4) [Latest Build: 20251120]

Nah, that’s a good questiom. I honestly don’t know. I’m a pantser, not a plotter. But I estimate that it should be around 20–30 chapters.

Man, this project looks very promising. how’s it going?

I’m busy pursuing my graduate studies at the moment. Sorry. But the next major release will feature ~7 more chapters and will probably come out in 2024, just in time for the next FEE3.

Hope everyone’s having a fun Christmas 'cause I come bearing gifts.

Beta 2.3 (December 28, 2023)
★ MASSIVE OVERHAUL to the PROLOGUE to make it play a “hundred-percent puzzle map” instead of whatever you’d call the janky earlier iterations were.
★ CASUAL MODE is now available as an option from the start, disabling permadeath and the generic replacement system.
★ Tweaked some stats on various weapons and adjusted their sell and buy prices accordingly (inflation hit Andromeda HARD).
★ Implemented EFFECTIVE CRITICAL THRESHOLD: units now need to score a Crit value above 15 to even have a chance of landing a crit, meaning if a unit’s Crit is less than 15, it’s an automatic 0 (this should REMOVE 1% CRITS from the game and make Swordmasters with their Crit+ non-superfluous).
★ IMPROVED PROMOTION SCREEN: now you can see what weapons a promotion branch can equip, their boons and banes, and the skills they’ll learn and at what level.
★ Added a NEW CHAPTER: Chapter 7 Landfall is now playable, with 2 new playable units as well a frantic skirmish map with ballistas and siege magic plus a secret boss fight… if you dare…
★ Tweaked promotion bonuses since feedback reached a consensus that the old system was too difficult (boons are now more rewarding and banes are now less punishing).
★ Edited supports of various characters since rewrite is inevitable and part of the creative process.
★ Changed the title of Chapter 5 to something more fitting.
★ Tweaked the way the FINAL PHASE of the boss fight in the first Paralogue worked: now your units get their turns refreshed at the start of the final phase, to add a little bit of QOL. But it won’t save you…
★ Tweaked the AI of the mini-boss in the first Paralogue: now it won’t attack you, so you can’t just cheese it with Captain Inky + Dunkelheit on EP.
★ Changed the skills of some classes as well as the names of several skills to add flavour.
★ Added a few new entries to the Codex, if you care about that sort of thing.
★ Fixed various grammatical nitpicks and refactored some code in the backend, just to cut down on my increasing tech debt. I’m just too lazy to do custom ASM
★ Buffed Lexus, Scarlette, and Cyrus. Lexus now has Utility as his main role because of his personal skill Spring Thief (-5 damage to adjacent female allies, fog vision, and lockpick usage), access to the anima trinity at base, and the various aura skills he can gain upon promotion. Scarlette now has slightly better bases and her Siege now deals constant damage without variance. Cyrus’ base Mag has been slightly increased so he can chip and NosTank better.
★ NEW GAME is recommended so you don’t miss out on ITEMS and CONTENT. Loading savestates from old patches may BREAK your game, especially if you load in the middle of events. You have been warned. the camera clowning around is the least harmful thing that can happen

Latest patch is available from the download link at the top post. Click here so you don’t have to scroll up. Enjoy!

The latest patch is out. Changes and screenshots can be found below. This marks me hitting the last milestone I set before 2024’s FEE3. Act 1 is complete and the game has been polished so much, thanks to your feedback. Again, thanks for playing!

Changes

★ Act 1 is now fully playable! This makes a total of 12 PLAYABLE CHAPTERS, including 1 OPTIONAL PARALOGUE.
★ Ch5x PARALOGUE restrictions have been loosened, making it easier to unlock. Check the quick guide in the first post if you want spoilers. Now everyone can get decimated by a final boss as early as Act 1.
★ Unlocking all Act 1 secrets now gives out a Gold Star by the end of the act, as a symbol of your feat.
★ Portraits & graphics have been vastly revamped thanks to the wonderful community!
★ User interface has been revamped, including changes to the stat screen and unbreakable weapon & artifact display.
★ Held items can no longer be sold or thrown away.
★ Most units have been tweaked so they’re more useful and fill their niche better. As much as possible, I buff instead of nerf…
★ All C-Rank SUPPORTS are available! B-Ranks and A-Ranks are available only in Act 2 and Act 3 respectively.
★ Lots of typos and bugs have been squashed, including the child that randomly shows up in the Support Viewer… I swear she’s been exorcised.
★ Added a JUKEBOX in Ch5 that lets you switch tracks around. Just talk to the bard.
★ Mono-locked classes now get +30 to Crit instead of just +15, pairing nicely with the minimum crit threshold being 15 instead of… 0 in vanilla.
★ And probably more I forgot…
★ NEW GAME is recommended, as so much has changed from previous patches that I’m not sure if this really qualifies as Beta 2.5 instead of, I dunno, Beta 3.0.

General Comments

  • I really appreciated 15 crit minimum threshold. It cleanly separates enemies who have a good deal of crit from annoying small amounts of crit.
  • The 500 gold hammernes utterly changed how I thought about weaponry. It’s easier to go ham with them when I know I could repair them for virtually nothing.
  • The buyable accessories was some really good decision paralysis. I picked up an early Windshoe, then sold a bazillion things to afford Devil Ring, two Magnus Hates and another Army Standard. They were all useful, though the 2nd Army Standard was easily the best investment.
  • I appreciate that skills tend to be impactful rather than dressing. This is particularly true for certain class skills such as +255 AS darting blow or +255 avoid duelist blow. I did, however, cry when fighters got barricade.

Chapters

  • Personally, I’m glad prologue is more of an interactive cutscene than a puzzle map. One vaguely amusing detail is that Luciana actually needs two swings to slay these four, and she is one damage off.
    Andromeda-3 Andromeda-5

  • I thought 1-1, 1-2 and 1-3 were still pretty solid challenges 1-3 is probably my favourite map. A tough advance covered by enemy archers.

  • I like the idea of 1-4. The provoke greens are very cool and Scarlett being able to destroy ballistae and wyvern waves is a fantastic introduction. However, the repeating ambush spawn pirates create an effectively invisible zone of control one has to tile count manually which did reduce my enjoyment by a good bit. The greens help, but its not a reliable counter.

  • I found 1-5 easier than last time, but the enemies are still especially scary on this one it feels.
Provoke Silas made the left side negligible, but the right was particularly tough to tackle in the early turns. This is where I discovered nos tank provoke Skye is not in fact a catch-all solution.

  • 1-6 is probably the easiest map so far, which makes it a nice breather from 1-5. Provoke counters shadowshots and the rest is fairly straightforward.

  • 1-7 was very difficult for me. I scraped through on the last turn with a double smite, and I had no one who could take on the right side Seraph Knight on turn 7. If Silas didn’t have an Army Standard, I’d be absolute toast. I also think it’d be better to have preps for this chapter, as you can come into this with messed up inventories from 1-6 and its hard enough that this will really matter.

  • 1-Finale really threw me off with 21 deploy, but turns out, I needed all that deploy. I think the constantly two waves of reinforcements to keep one in place felt like treading water rather than allowing a proper advance, but that’s a matter of taste. The second Army Standard was absolutely crucial for me. I did wish I had some other way of getting the stealables besides wait for May to come around. Maybe Zane should just get steal.

Units
Andromeda-124
Silas was easily the MVP. Can provoke tank most enemies, massive mobility, can take on bosses due to wary fighter can one round using brave axe or devil axe. He even gets smite just to make him even better.

Andromeda-125
Skye was the other. Even a provoke nos tank has counters in the form of myrms and archers, but he wins almost every match up.

Andromeda-126
Scarlette is just really fun to use. Real shocking thing to say about 3-15 twelve tile large AoE, I know.
Andromeda-127
Vivi I found to be incredbly useful. She can 1-2 range orko some matchups like wyverns. 1-4 and 1-Finale were particularly kind to her, grabbing tough houses in the former and sniping every siege unit on the map in the latter.
Andromeda-128
She starts pretty weak after joining properly in 1-4, but with some Magnus Hat power levelling, in combination with galeforce and frequent ballista access, she was easily killing 2 things every turn in every map except 1-4.
Andromeda-129
Freya has an impressive Prf and offensive spread. Axe infantry are pretty jacked and being able to orko them was enough to make her one of my most useful units.

  • Luciana stays pretty strong throughout and resolve HP management is pretty interesting given her base stats start to fall off.

  • Reginald is a solid tank and can do some damage with Ranseur, but isn’t impressive at much else. Army Standard feels like it has better users.

  • May doesn’t do great against anyone except mages, but at least she is good at one thing and can steal.

  • Tony and Wyatt fulfilled a similar niche. Can maybe orko on player phase, will explode on enemy phase. Tony takes a while to get out of being squishy. Useful, but not impressively so.

  • I still think Holt is pretty terrible past ch1. He struggles to orko even against enemies he has effectiveness against and gamble provides barely any crit.

  • Sofia is just pretty great. Good offensive spread, death blow and canto+. She didn’t face enough archers for me to make use of dismounting.

  • Eren’s pretty carried by his Prf, which is really good against a whole weapon type. Myrmidon duelist blow is also a great class skill.

  • Claude, Zane and Pierre all felt too statistically unimpressive to do much of anything at their join time. Admittedly, Zane’s skill is pretty strong, even if he himself is not.

  • Adelaide is a troubadour.

  • Cyrus seems rather impressive. Wary fighter nos tank and ability to go summoner right away are both big boons.

  • Overall, the majority of units had very specific niches and many are very fun to use. A lot of units would be broken in a different hack but are simply as intended here.

Misc

  • Army Standard doesn’t mention -5 Spd in the item description.

  • When ‘phase 2’ of 1-6 happens, Luciana and Vivi (and presumably other mounts) were stuck in canto instead of actually being refreshed. I assuming it was because ‘canto’ status wasn’t unset.

Imma use that character only for the memes

I think I’ll play this one already instead of waiting, just in case the games ends up deleted or something. That has been a bad trend lately.

To address the comments…

Glad to hear. I’m all for giving players the freedom to decide how they play. Army Standards are pretty much integral to how tanks function though, so they’re a must-grab if you’re investing in a tank. Devil Rings are designed to allow crutch characters like Silas and Luciana to stay relevant, so they’re a bit on the expensive side.

apparently she’s better at fighting than counting

Just wait for the next act, where it’s a tough advance covered by siege cannons that deal area damage. Time for Fleur to shine in her niche as an AoE healer.

Addressed in the latest hotfix. I keep forgetting to change this. My bad. More variety to reinforcements has been added as well, so it isn’t just pirates that spawn from the ships.

Addressed in the latest hotfix. I added preps.

He just did. His variant of Steal can be overwritten with other skills when he runs out of slots.

I buffed him a bit by replacing Camaraderie (%Heal) with Eagle Eye (Crit+). But he’s not designed to dish out orkos like Lorelei or to be a crit machine like Wyatt. His niche is being able to reliably chip on player phase (Gamble negates doubles on both sides, Atlas is 1-2 range guaranteed hit, Hp can eat a counter from things like Myrmidons), while at the same time being able to tank somewhat (Hero and Berserker are pretty bulky classes). It’s kinda a boring niche, really.

Poor Zane being a glorified rallybot gameplay-wise and storywise. He gets Steal in the latest hotfix. Claude and Pierre are scaling units. The former gets fast S-Rank and staves (admittedly not that awesome) while the latter can get either bows or staves on promotion.

All addressed. I had to tweak Army Standard’s description a bit to fit the -5 Spd. The blurb in the usage screen used to show that instead, which was kinda lousy. To address the second issue, I added these UNCR commands to revert Canto status. These are all the player units that can get Canto. It should work… I think.

Yes, this means Lorelei gets a flying broom on promotion.

Finally, someone gets it.

kinda spoils something

I’m still waiting for the return of Blade of Darkness

In all seriousness, the project may be slow going as I’m busy in real life, I won’t be deleting this project. I finish all my projects even if they take a few years.

Thanks for playing!

Act 1 Ending

Since builder can’t gather data on story flags yet… I’ll do it through a poll. This is for players that have finished the entirety of Act 1. Those players will know what I’m talking about.

In any case, I won’t be closing this poll in the foreseeable future. Everyone gets their turn.

How was 1-Finale (New Dawn) resolved in your playthrough?

  • Fleur
  • Scarlette
  • Lorelei
  • I just wanna see the results…

@Eretein, big question:

Summary

Does asking Anna (dragoon) for help in chapter 4 change anything? Or is she just more help for me, no penalties?

Answer

If Skye accepts Anna’s offer, something changes down the line, but it isn’t strictly a penalty. I suggest doing what comes naturally. Anna’s there to act as a safety net if you’re having a hard time.

Hotfix out! The download link in the main post has been updated. Saves are still valid, and will be valid for future patches from now on. Hold on to your Act 1 saves for when Act 2 comes out.

Anyway, a little oopsie, I forgot to post the full changelog from the last two hotfixes. Here you go.

Changelog

Beta 2.5.1 (July 4, 2024)
★ Tweaked R-text description of Army Standard to include -5 Spd.
★ Changed reinforcements in Ch4 to spawn on player phase instead of enemy phase.
★ These reinforcements also have new classes and move much closer to the player, to add spice.
★ Fixed Canto-bit not being reverted on RefreshAllPlayableUnits (e.g. Landfall second phase).
★ Zane now gets Steal, but Steal can be replaced when he promotes and runs out of slots for skills.
★ Holt now gets Eagle Eye instead of Camaraderie, so he has more crit on investment.
★ Dark Star now has preps, but still only permits a small party.
Beta 2.5.2 (July 5, 2024)
★ Fixed Inoel showing up with her debug skills in First Departure.
★ Fixed Armageddon and Smite not having the right effectiveness against Mounted and Armored units, respectively.
★ Future-proofed RefreshAllUnits script against more units with Canto, by simply reverting the Canto-bits of all playable units.

Nah, there is no way…

There is no way you put another chad in the game. And with the GigaChad theme sounding when he appears, too. Can we be friends

Edit: by the way, I don’t know if you have noticed, but you can’t acces the armory from the battle preparation screen (except during the interlude). Is this intended or a bug?

That’s intended. Inventory management is designed to be a part of the game. There’ll be more interludes down the road to let you restock what you need.

Hotfix out!

Changes

Beta 2.5.3 (July 7, 2024)
★ Fixed reinforcements teleporting in Raiders of Kris.
★ Overhauled summons! Now each summoner gets a familiar that’s tailored to their preferences.

Screenshots

Finally figured out how to do this after putting it off for so long. There are currently four playable summoners in the entire game. Being the only one you can recruit in the first act, Cyrus gets the summon that’s meant to tank hits for the party. This is why you bankroll early summoners, right?

Okay, I just finished the game as it is now… But I didn’t have the “Fleur” option, only Scarlette’s and Lorelei’s. Did I do something wrong? Also, in 1- Finale Fleur is supposedly able to speak to Lorenzo, but she can’t.

By the way, I liked this game. I think a map and a little introduction would be nice, because a map is always neccesary to boost the immersion of the game. Yes, we see a little bit of a map in chapter 1, but not the world the game is taking place in. There isn’t a narrator either at any moment (not that I remember anyway).

The music selection was great, no complains on that department. Well, just one: you can’t just use Knight of the Wind in CHAPTER 1 and refuse to elaborate further . I love that theme, but I also feel like it’s a song destined to be played during a very important battle or after a main character gets a power up. That’s just my opinion though.

As for the characters: setting aside the chads, the roster is great. Gameplaywise, everyone has its own virtues and flaws (as it should be). As for their personalities… Well, support C doesn’t really give them a lot of depth, but I’ll be waiting for what’s coming with enthusiasm. There IS one character that actually stands out among them all, but only if you played The Last Promise: Kelik. Or Eren, whatever you want to call him. Having him change from a punk to an honorable and calm man due to amnesia is a very attractive change. I really like Skye, Luciana too. I’m surprised she is still alive though, I had this one instinct that you would kill her at some point, but she is still kicking.

I think this meme will sum up my feelings on this game better than my words:
