So a while ago there was a contest that gave score for including a Touhou reference. Rushing for the deadline, I requanted the Touhou 1 stage clear Reimu and wrote some random out-of-character dialogue for her. Then a few weeks after the deadline passed, I was in a voice call watching a friend play Touhou 18. Naturally the discussion was about the series, and then I said something blatantly wrong, I think about Embodiment of Scarlet Devil being a de facto “Touhou 1”. Another friend said “that’s like saying the first Super Mario game was Sunshine”, and with me suitably embarrassed, I ended up “acquiring” PC-98 Touhou. I said something along the lines of “The Super Hit Post Contest deadline was weeks ago, but I’ve been meaning to clean up those loose ends. Let’s go.” and fired up Highly Responsive to Prayers.
Now that could have been the end of it, as it has infinite continues and I eventually beat Sariel down after inserting many, many coins. But a few weeks later, someone said “Why don’t you play Touhou 2?” And so I did, after getting the translation patch installed. I was expecting to get blown to pieces on Stage 1 and quickly give up, but I got… an actually reasonable shmup? I made it to Mima fairly quickly, and after about a week’s worth of grinding and slowly improving, I had finished Story of Eastern Wonderland without continuing and I had earned the good ending.
By that point, I had fallen down the rabbit hole. I took some breaks between games, but I was seeing PC-98 Touhou out, at least. Yumemi went down in about a week, Yuuka only took a few days, and Shinki put up two weeks’ worth of a fight before I took her out. More, technically, but I was away on a holiday where I ended up buying an Alice figure because I recognised her. Then I went further beyond and legally bought Touhou 6, 7, and 8.
As I write this meandering post, Remilia gave way after just two days, I’m wondering how I’d make my own take on the FE x Touhou prompt, and I have a PC-98 Reimu Fumo sitting next to me. Then I intended to paste in a spreadsheet clipping, but then I spent a few hours improving the spreadsheet instead. Turns out it pastes nicely in.

Everyone ever playable (I probably missed a bunch, only played 1-6) adds up to 68 characters. Add the final bosses and you reach 77, tied with FE12. (This will be outdated in a few days!) This is very loosely “objective”: mainline playables would be mandatory, followed by versus shooters, then the fighters until the roster cap is hit. But I wouldn’t expect anyone to follow the actual playable characters 1:1. And since you’ve got 100 characters, you can go nuts.
That was a giant rant that boils down to “Because of a Fire Emblem romhacking contest, I have now played Touhou”. I’d say where’s Mima but I see her in the screenshots. So where’s Shinki?

Off-topic but even funnier here is I have been inactive from FEUniverse or any FE stuff for a while because of Umamusume and Rye’s portrait is Kitasan Black from that same franchise/game I have been drowning my time in
Also if there gonna be any more interesting units with unique niches it could help the game, just a suggestion, but it’s probably gonna be literally the entire playable cast all have a niche each

Sorry if this sounds ignorant or if I misread the post, but how is there 100+ playable characters? I thought the absolute limit was 63 (50 without bugs). Or did you just mean a total of 100+ characters from Touhou but not all of them will be playable?

We have generic mercenaries you can hire if you’re REALLY strapped for units. (Definitely nobody will actually try to train them and use them long term hahaha.)
