Fire Emblem: Dark Stone - FE8, but you play as the bad guys! [Overhaul with a new story]

If I might speak on this, most of the archers in the hack are in the Carcino route, aren’t they? Hayden, Binks, potentially Lieselott…And I think the only Wyrmslayer you get by this point is also Carcino-locked, isn’t it? As for archers in the Grado-route, you only really have promotion options for bow-units, with Archer Melina, Warrior O’Neill, Wyvern Knight Valter…and Gheb, though his weapon-rank in bows is low. Especially on a map as tight and cramped as the obligatory boat map, I can certainly see how an excess of wyverns can prove seriously troublesome for someone unprepared for it.
Perhaps you could give the player access to some more wyvern-effective weaponry? Maybe Jude can join with a Dragonspear? Not enough to trivialize the map, but enough that even someone whose trained units got sucked up into Carcino can work around it as a failsafe.

I’m on hard mode, I think it’s uniquely a problem for me because my units are lopsided experience wise and not everyone can kill a Wyvern reliably, which allows them to enemy phase me and I lose units. There might be a way to win that I’m not seeing, but it’s pretty hard so far. I have a Bazba who is level 19 and he’s so strong that he can fight an entire swarm of Wyverns himself, but obviously the nature of being swarmed by fliers is that your weakest units are the ones who die because they can go through any formation.

I understand it’s hard to strike a balance, especially since the Wyverns are not individually very strong but it’s pretty tricky. I’m trying my best not to save state, but I don’t know what else to do.

Who is that strange, mysterious, yet oddly handsome sorcerer who greets you at the entrance of the Lagdou Ruins…?

EDIT: Oh god, the Generals in the Lagdou Ruins have Great Shield! D:

I beat the map finally, took me many tries. Eventually I had to juggernaut with Jude and Bazba and kill Wyverns by having them hit me on enemy phase and then player phase to finish them off, was brutally difficult, and I’ve beaten Lunatic Conquest. I still only won because I hit a 91%, if I missed that hit on Cormag I was doomed and had no plan B.

Eventually I beat the map without taking deaths. In conclusion, I think Gheb should start with D bow Rank because him having an iron bow on this map means he can’t one shot wyvern riders and that makes him…About as good as a level 9 Beran at this point, both kill in two bow shots, lol. I get Gheb is supposed to be a growth unit or whatever but my man has 8 speed base.

C code is a pathway to many abilities some would consider to be… unnatural.

(The vanilla game already has a section of code dedicated to making the demon king immune to being petrified by stone, so I just made the “if class == demon king” statement an “if class == demon king || unit has the boss flag” check instead (and then tested it to make sure that it worked).)

Wyvern Knight Agrippina too, if you dip into the Tower to recruit her (and then retreat to avoid TAINTING your run). The wyrmslayer also isn’t “locked” to the Carcino force; you can move it from one group to the other (or to the convoy) while in map mode.

Ohhh, right, I forgot about that mechanic. It’s just characters that are locked… …does the Wyrmslayer come before or after “Cormag’s Cantankerous Crusade™?”

Before, as Wyrmslayer (As well as Dragonspear and Dragon Axe) is obtainable in Chapter 14 (The Morva Chapter), and you have time to give them to the Grado Gang before Chapter 16 (The Infamous Boat Chapter).

I think I like the Lagdou Ruins

Oh, god it’s Heroic Struggle! I made it – I won! : D

Wait, this guy was from an actual game and not just an OC made for Princesses' Lament?

Not if I kill them first, slowpoke!

Why’s Rennac included in the “fan-favorite character” group? Get outta here Rennac, you’re not part of the team.

I don’t know if it was the intended solution, but…

God Among Gods, Second Only to Roger from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & The Blade of Light

I defeated Tick with a few uses of Eclipse from Lyon, then a bumrush with Valter and his Moonlance. Was that how I was supposed to take him out? His battle-dialogue seems to imply there was another way

Correct. There’s your game recc of the day.

It’s too late. I’m going back to patch Eckesachs to make Narcian die offscreen.

Spoilerinis

His class’s caps are lower than his bases. After a round of combat they are adjusted down.

You wouldn’t dare…! He already does! Don’t do it again! D:

Oh, god, I just killed Garon in one hit with Zabba’s Silencer – I don’t think I was supposed to do that

No you’re not, huh. Might be worth looking into preventing that lmao

Still, congratulations on the full finish!

That’s actually a pretty creative way of taking Tick down. What were your hit rates with Eclipse though?

Fluctuating between 60 and 75%, give or take. It’s not the best, but you got 5 uses of it, and it’s not like anyone’s ever using Eclipse for anything else.

I think I was unintentionally using Lyon’s supports with Valter and Tiffani, so you’ll wanna use those to boost your hit-rates. The changes to avoid in this hack definitely work in the player’s favor there

Missed opportunity to use the prototype fe8 character names as units imho (still a Ruben hack which is automatically peak)

the prototype names

Mehve
Loewe
Mulitia

These three might have been nice additions to the roster (maybe a Sniper, Male Druid, and Wyvern Lord to balance out the classes)

Ik it’s likely too late and that you’re probably done major updates, but one can never know unless they share

Regardless, epic hack, and I look forward to future works and/or updates.

He does use unused names, nate and jude specifically

Just wanted to say I don’t really leave comments but felt like I had to say how much I loved this hack. There’s a certain charm to these hacks playing as the bosses which is something I absolutely love and can’t get enough off. Loved Eckesachs and dark stone was just even better to me

Really hope to see this for fe7 sometime in the future :eyes::eyes::eyes:

Why demon king doesn’t have the summon skill ? It’s strange that normal summoners and a demon like Medusa can summon monster… but the king of demons himself can’t summon anything. He should have the strongest version of summon.

Glad you enjoyed the hack! I did use some unused names, namely Deni and Nate, as well as a beta character, but I didn’t want the playable cast to be too bloated. I did check these names but I couldn’t think of a character where they fit to my liking, sadly.

Thank you for your kind words! Yeah, playing as the bad guys is fun.

I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to make it work. Admittedly, I didn’t try very hard. Maybe I should look more into it.
