[FE8] [Complete] Fire Emblem: Vision Quest (v3 by Pushwall - 1-Oct-22)

He should - do you have a screenshot?

For other characters, their HM bonuses vary (I believe). However, unless I got really unlucky, he got the same bonuses every time (I haven’t compared yet with NM Erasmus, I’d have to poke around in FEBuilder).
1 2 3

These are all different trials.

the variance is generally pretty small. My guess is that the likelihood of Erasmus having variance is tiny. At the very least, it looks like he is getting HM autolevels, which is good enough for me.

I can confirm that he got his HM bonuses, i have this screenshot from normal mode

Small update, currently testing 3-3x. I’ve gotten some requests and feedback that it’d be cool if Waluyo had his own trippy gaiden chapter like Storch and Titus do, especially because he gets a lot less screentime than the other lords.

Additionally, Scraiza has suggested “gazelle chapter” for some time, and so I decided to try out a concept.

Thanks @LaurentLacroix for the lovely class cards, @Scraiza for the gazelle map sprites, and @Relic for the new portrait for our boss, Chief Yogya.

Final versions may change pending testing, but here are some screenshots of what is to come.

Continuing to make additional tweaks and test across the board. I decided to scrap a 4-2 update because I could not make a new map that I was satisfied with, so I am leaving it as is. I’ll be making a few smaller tweaks instead. However, Endgame X is still on the table and 2-5x’s map has been redone. This should make the map less choky and I am satisfied with the outcome.

More updates coming soon, thanks all for your support as always.

Awesome! Back when I first played VQ, one of my biggest story complaints was that Waluyo was boring. Giving him his own gaiden chapter is certainly a step in the right direction. Plus, some screentime for Waluyo’s commanders from part 2 sounds pretty rad as well.

Also, gazelles.

If I may ask, will you make an Endgame X teaser, or would you rather keep that one a secret? I would completely understand if you do. I have a guess as to what it might be about, anyway.

Looking forward to the update, as always!

Yeah, when I made part 3, I really wanted to make maps and did not feel like writing, so a lot of his chapters were short and snappy. It also fit given that I was attempting to make a Manster-style arc.

As for Endgame X, we’ll see. I’m treating the map more like an easter egg / cutscene since it would require a handful of units to unlock.

A handful of units, you say? Well, that goes to confirm my guess. Perhaps. We’ll see.

In any case, I’ll be waiting for the next bit of news, whatever they are!

We’ll see how much I feel like sharing - I do want to leave some surprises!

Hey!! So I just finished the hack, absolutely loved it, probably the best GBA FE I’ve ever played, I was wondering if there’s anywhere I can read the supports for the cast? I thought the characters were really good and I’d love to be able to read their supports straight through without having to deal with GBA supports. Thanks!

Hey when you launch the game go into the Extras and you can see the supports conversations there.

What I mean is they are all unlocked by default.

Yep I found that out after I made this post, thank you though!!

Thanks for the feedback - be safe and have fun. Curious to hear which ones you like the most!

Probably Timmonen and Michael, that was handled really well and I enjoyed it a lot

Hey, just recently finished the hack, and oh boy what a ride it was! I saw the hack for the first time when I saw your ironman stream of it and decided to check it out. Just a couple of chapters in, and I was immediately hooked.

While my playthrough wasn’t a full ironman run, and done on normal difficulty, the game was still pretty challenging at Part 2 and onward.

Minor spoilers below:

Gameplay

Part 1 was doing a good job at introducing the characters, and I felt that no character was necessarily useless, even when there were a lot of characters to choose from. I mainly used Storch gang the most, and some units served well as temporaries (love Cashew, Freyja, Arckady and Bosco <3).

Chapters that I really enjoyed:
1-7xx, really enjoyed it from both gameplay and story aspects, and gave nice development for Storch.
2-1x, protecting every chicken was pretty difficult. I did reset a couple times on this one… One pegasus that spawns at the bottom and kills a chicken on enemy phase felt a bit too unpredictable to me, but I’m pretty sure I was moving too slowly at that time to rescue the chicken.
2-7, I really liked doing a rescue and give/take + shove trains with the logs and my units, really fun and position heavy chapter for me. Great and unique way to use rescue as a mechanic as well.

When Part 3 came, I got startled that it might be a bit “filler-ish”, but in terms of gameplay, it was definitely very solid, with 3-1 being my (probably) favourite map in the game. Getting to all the chests while keeping my units alive was really challenging, as the enemies were kinda tough.
3-2 felt a bit relaxing after the hectic 3-1.
3-3, reinforcements coming from the fog caught me off guard a couple of times. The smaller map size works really well in that one, as spreading my units across there while trying to keep the citizens safe was already challenging. A very nice fog map imo.
3-4 Seruni actually derped and walked out of the woods and died, so I had to reset on that one. The armor knights near the boss didn’t move, so I went the bottom route. Rescuing with Onderdonk and using a mounted unit to drop off worked fine, as the middle forest where green units start worked as a safe zone.
3-E was a really cool map, as you could just wait in the fortress or get the treasure. Of course I chose the latter, but at that point you have access to a lot of promoted units, and enemies don’t keep up with your units. So the sense of pressure came from getting everything done within the turn limit, and it was pretty generous. Strong enemies spawned near the starting fortress, but not at the bottom, and you could just stay there after the boss was defeated. Maybe have some strong enemies spawn there too?

In Part 4, 4-3 stood out, I had to rush to the boss and by turn 6, most of the horses had died. With a shove train I managed to get enough units near the boss to finish him off. Very difficult one due to fog (I did use Torch staves though!) and the AT incentive. I really liked the idea of protecting the horses, even when I ended up failing at it pretty well.
For 4-5, I liked the extra incentive of freeing the prisoners, and getting all the chests. The turn limit was very forgiving though.
4-E, the map is pretty big, but getting to boss takes only a couple of turns. Having separated paths but only two of them converging, while the one on the right going “nowhere” felt odd to me. The whole right side of the map had very little going on, so I focused most of my left and center path units to go to the boss. Seeing Sleep staff Sages was actually a bit relieving, as I was sure there would’ve been Sages or Bishops with Stone status staves!

While I’m not a huge fan of skills outside of shove/smite and canto, the skills weren’t in an overwhelming role in this one. I approve of minimal use of proc skills. (Shame we didn’t get any Devil’s Whim enemies though  )

Plot/Characters

Part 1 had most chapters, and the story progressed nicely with all of them. I really liked how each main character got their own arc with Part 4 tying them all together. Favourite Parts were 1 and 2.

As for favourite characters, Storch, Marlen, Vagelis, Surya, Titus and Helga are my favourites. Cajon and Stina felt a bit like Titus/Helga-lite.

And Horvath as a villain deserves praise as well, I liked his character a lot. Not only was he a master of manipulation, he was pretty strong as an enemy as well.

End game party

I think I got pretty blessed with some level ups (I swear I didn’t do any rigging!), Storch has high res and Titus has high def. Honeydew and Marlen have crazy offensive stats as well.

TLDR
  • Extremely solid gameplay offering much variety in characters and chapter goals.
  • An engaging and pretty easy-to-follow story with arcs. The humor was on point as well!
  • Banger of an OST, I could just listen to some of the remixes all day. Also love the originals!
  • Visually good looking, mugs look stunning good!

Personally for me it was a 4,9/5, had some minor bugs and couple of graphical bug/animation flaws that don’t ruin the experience nor affect gameplay.
Small video of said bugs. You’re probably well aware of all of them, and have possibly fixed them.

I have recommended this to a couple of friends as well.

Thanks for making the romhack, had awesome time with it!

Thanks for sharing - appreciate the bug reports and glad you had a good time.

Nice endgame team - always fun to see who people take to the final.

Hello everyone, I just finished my second-ish playthrough because I loved this game and I wanted to use some other characters. I played in normal difficulty and didn’t do an Iron man run.

For now on, It may contain some spoilers.

Acts

The first part was a ton of fun to see Storch’s party trying to survive during harsh times and their struggles to keep their relatives safe. The second one feels for me like growing up and taking some unintended responsibilities and having to deal with some things you don’t fully understand/ agree.

The third part got me, I was kinda a slow player but the whole feeling of being chased, having to “choose” which enemies you will fight and that your weapons might break if you take too long really made me play differently.

The final part was like the endgame of Radiant Dawn, now you have a ton of cool and great units that you have to pick. And I love it! Also was great to show the backstory of some of the new characters in the party.

Characters

During the first play, I had a ton of fun using Storch, Surya, Sri, Marlen, Lera and Vagelis.

I mean look how buffed they turned out!

But during the second one, Helga, Duck, Gunnar, Naia, Titus, stood out from the rest and I was really proud. I’ll show them in the other section.

Endgame party

Little low on defense, but great anyway. Gave him a secret book and a dracoshield

One freaking heavy hitter with S rank in bows

Cool backstory and supports

Used him just to see some supports

Helga turned out great with a 1 or 2 of Speedwings, i don’t remember clearly

Gave her the boots just for her doubles everything in range haha

I was determined yo use him and support with Honeydew it really paid off

Gave him some Speedwings and supported with Gunnar

Tried to support her with Helga but only got to B and her skill helped me a lot though the game

Gave him a body ring just to steal weapons :grinning:

Gave her a Speedwing just to not get doubled

Gave her an energy ring and a body ring to help using psychic staves and to not get slowed down by tomes

Pass and boots, great combo

Behold the untouchable crit machine

He became a broken unit , gave him a body ring and a Nosferatu and he was fine by himself

Miscellaneus

Supports:

  • Duck and Gunnar - little sad in the end, one of my favorites so far, VERY cool
  • Esfir and Onisim - great development on Esfir, the end was kinda unexpected
  • Arckady and Honeydew - cute dialogue and nice ending
  • Helga and Zoya - I couldn’t get to A, but It seems cool, I hope it has a nice ending
  • Zoya and Titus - same as Helga
  • Naia and Osane - Nice A support conversation but I didn’t got a custom ending

Erasmus is a commander but he doesn’t have leadership stars? And I think the C and B support with Zuzana have the same conversation.

The soundtrack is crazy! That one from Chrono Trigger got me! I wanted to play that game just to listen how it fits the story.

Hey Pandan, it is possible to make the final map unlock the prerequisites of the B suports to A? Just to get the custom ending in some characters.

Anyway, awesome hack Pandan! Can’t wait to play the v2. I hope to see more of your work! English is not my first language and the text help me improve my reading and comprehension. Thanks a lot! Muito obrigado!

Just started playing this hack yesterday and so far it’s pretty solid, even if a few of the graphical and music choices are a bit odd.

For Chapter 1-2, is there any other hidden treasure near the merchants besides the bow?

Hey @VonIthipathachai I don’t think so.

Thanks for playing and sharing feedback! Glad you had a good time and enjoyed the hack.

Not sure how I would do it. For me, it seems like more trouble than it is worth to make it happen by then, sorry.

That said, you can always open FEBuilder to scan through the endings. All supports are available in the viewer.

@ Von - Nano is correct, only the Boogjacht is there.
