Thank you!
Just finished the game but haven’t done the Endgame X chapter yet.
This was an incredible creation. a LONG game too like wow that was like, 50 hours of gameplay for me (did my first playthrough on lunatic and refused to let anyone die by using save states)
But I will say having the ending be a cliff hanger was so devastating when I learned that the sequel has been canceled.
If someone has some insight for some character plot points I have some questions.
1 - Who is Cashew’s father? It’s mentioned in his ending that he becomes bitter when he realizes who it was but I can’t seem to figure it out.
2 - Is there some epilogue regarding Storch at all besides paired endings? Seeing Titus look for him but not having Storch actually show back up at all in the epilogue felt so jarring. The Epilogue was also so short?
3 - What was Esfir going to reveal to Storch at the end? She says she wants to reveal something then the game just cut away to the save screen. I’m assuming she tells Storch that Titus is actually Lera’s father but would love some confirmation there.
4 - When Emperor Fastain’s advisor dies, he says that Fastain is the real emperor. Is this just his personal belief or was there some double twist to the plot?
Speaking of that advisor, was a bit disappointing that it’s not acknowledged at all if he survives the final chapter.
The final chapter was also a bit anti climactic for me. Fastain charged at me before his dialogue event saying he would charge, and he was weak to the Cleave Bow which made him such a easy target to kill. Really kind of disappointing for a final map, I was so convinced that there would be a part 2 to the map after he died where the villain popped back out but… nope it just ended. I guess that’s kind of how Titus felt too I suppose.
Regardless of these minor complaints, I want to say the world building and character writing in this game was incredible. Like it is as good if not better than many RPGs I’ve played. This was an incredible game and I loved it both as a Fire Emblem game and as it’s own thing. As a FE fan game it did so many things right, and I really wish the sequel did not get canceled.
Thanks for making it Pandan!
Hello~ I just finished playing and wanted to tell you my opinion.
It was recommended to me with a lot of praise that, in fact, it deserves, it was a great experience, although I’m a vanilla cotton candy player (I’m new to the world of Fe) I can’t speak about the biggest difficulties.
history;
Very good, especially the ending, it took me by surprise and the twist was really cool. Many of the aspects were well developed, but at times the narrative was a bit strange, there are a lot of comments about cheese and wine, which I understand due to the characters, but it is too repetitive and ends up ruining the atmosphere of the story. The secondary missions are good for taking away the focus a little, like in the Honeydew episode, so it’s better to explore more trivial subjects about the characters or talk about food, repeating cheese this, tea and biscuit that and too much “heck” ends up making the writing a little monotonous and boring. But other than that I really liked it. When the first “act” ended I was surprised since I expected this until the end of the game, like Fire Emblem, I really liked how the events were done.
Maps and Music;
I thought they were all very good choices, the maps were well made, I really liked the final maps of the game, just the one in the desert that I didn’t like very much due to the movement limit, walking to the boss would be very boring it would be cool if at least there was a narrow path but better to walk especially with horses, but how the boss works I wasn’t so bad.
Gameplay and characters;
About the new affinity mechanism, although I liked the variety, I didn’t like the execution, two of which only grant 2 status bonuses, and the two other 3 bonuses, and the others have 4 types of bonuses. Characters with common affinities will have a greater advantage in support and others will not.
Right at the beginning most of the characters we get use a sword, and there are a lot of enemies with spears, it would be better at least the girl Pegasu to have a spear, it would be a better variety or not to have so many enemies with spears.
I really liked the new weapons, like the gem weapons, simple but efficient, the new spells were also a lot of fun. The objectives were quite varied and I was quite satisfied, they are cool and help to have a greater challenge without being so difficult, The skills were also very good, and one of the most fun aspects of the game.
The characters are very important to the story, although not everyone will like them, we have our favorites. I really liked the protagonist (although he says “heck” too much). He was always simple, even too simple, but fun with good morals and very human, but I thought he was reduced to just that, a guy with a heart of gold who fights for his family. After all the hardship he went through, it would be cool to see him a little selfish and wanting power but realizing the consequences and not wanting it anymore, but I liked him and his class too.
Lord Titus is also a great character and I liked his evolution, and his class is also very good, Dewie, Ketut, Helga, Stina, Bulan, Michael and Timmonen and the womanizer are also cool, and Larrisa is my favorite. She was one of the best units I had. Being queer, when I found out that this hack has queer people, I was very happy but it passed quickly, everyone is always talking about future partners, talking trivia, but the four of them stay in the shadows you only find out with their intimate conversations it would be right for them to have at least one friend to talk about it openly, straight people talk about love and so will queer people, I was very disappointed with their execution, but I liked that they have together endings and the flower that appears on the character after the support was a very nice touch.
Conclusion; It was a good experience, in fact it deserves praise, but it could still improve in some aspects, a different story from many other hacks, 8/10 I really liked it and will recommend it, congratulations to the team.
Hey Pandan, Grym here. I just got Vision Quest up and running and i found a bug. in the Extras tab on the title menu, and into the Support Conversation tab, Osane’s sprite is partially visible, and there is a second Bosco with no sprite. Thought you should know!
Playing this game for like the billionth time, masterpiece. Great steamdeck emulator game
My dream would be to remake this game using gamecube Path of Radiance as the base, somehow lol.
I know its “done”, and as an artist I understand the need to simply let go of something you’ve put so much into, but would love to see an update for this game someday, even if its just a facelift in terms of portraits and music. The bones of this thing are timeless mechanically, and the narrative is about as good as you can get through FE8 as a story telling medium
One random thought on Act 3: I think a major improvement for it would simply be to provide more of the units earlier, simple as that. Give me Zuljalal and Baldy mage within the first 3 chapters so I have some more choices to make, it feels a bit on rails for the first half-ish, which is right off the tails of the absolute thrill that is Act 2. Would also allow you to better focus on units that will fill the gaps in your Act 2 team once it comes back together in Act 4.
Hi. I’m not really sure where to ask this, So i may as well give it a shot here. I’ve got a friend who started playing vision quest recently, and there have been a few changes in like, personal animations since I played. The one that stood out to me was that Larisa’s animations are like the salvaged knight (or whichever) but smaller. I think that is really cool for personal animations to be honest, and I was wondering if that was a particularly hard thing to do. Shrinking a pixel animation, to be specific.
Great romhack, nice quality of life features (finally talking doesn’t take turns!), good character design (better than originals in many instances) and decent story. I don’t think I played better, there’s always something that I don’t like about other roms (some things made here should be a standard for every FE game, at least on GBA), but this one is addicting, despite few flaws.
1-3 end cutscene always ends up with black screen had to change emulator just for this one (from vba-m to mgba).
1-5 is a bit annoying. Game should state you have to reach that point with Starch or just redesign it so any unit is fine (seizing throne with main is different story). A bit annoying level, I don’t like those. Here is the main issue for me:
Almost every map is under heavy time pressure and there are too many enemies. Pretty difficult, not fan of such level design in FE games (I always missed many pillaged villages in the original). This is my only gripe about Vision Quest, it’s a bit too hard for a wrong reasons, but at least fair, giving many tools like decent weapons, shove and skills.
I like this romhack but I have one problem with it; THE LOOOOOONG DIALOGUES. Its nice to have a heavy story but all the cheese talk is unnecessary and boring. I would love for there to be an “abridged version” where you just get essential dialogue. Fkr the rest it is very solid and fun. The characters are good (except for the cheese people) and the maos are quite good.
having a lengthy conversation about food is one of life’s great joys.
I gotta figure out how to make a patch out of a rom, but I made an alternate version of the game with Esfir as the lord + all forced deployments disabled. Played this many times so got a bit bored of Storch as you already get a lot of cool mercs, you always sort of need a thf. Once I figure out how to move storch’s leadership star to esfir I’ll post it if anyones interested!
Been playing this so much on steamdeck at work. Some notes IF there is ever an update, sorry not to nitpick this is maybe more thinking out loud [Hard Mode]:
-
It would be great if Ruslan joined a chapter (or two) earlier @ a lower level, I think he would better compete with Helga who you receive the following chapter by having a chance at some good level ups. This would also help with how screwed you are if Natsuko dies prior to recruiting him
-
I was thinking it might be nice if the 15/15 Rescue/Warp staffs were split up in three 5/5 staves that you loot throughout act 1+2. You would be given initial 5/5, and the rest are objectives, maybe just on bishops here & there. This way, if a character dies while holding your 15/15, its not so devastating. I almost never use anyone other than Dewi/Onisim because they’re holding those staves and I only play them incredibly safely, they never die. Would be fun to be able play the healers a bit more aggressively & maybe wind up using the other healers the game gives you. Obviously, losing the 5/5’s would still be a big penalty but not as bad.

There is a noticeable dip in difficulty after 2-4 (I think thats the one you’re defending the queen?) which is imo the best map in the whole game, and all the deserts maps are chefs kiss. Curious if this was intentional, that you’re sort of slaughtering the kuchingi mercilessly after overcoming all the stuff in the desert & your new found power. I sometimes finish this tough map and want the heat to keep turning up, maybe incur some deaths making room for the act 4 party combine.

The map in the forest w/ maelle might be my least favorite in the game. I’m not sure if this is intended to be like a grind map to prep for the 2-E, its very easy. Most of the up top mobs will be dead by the time the reinforcements come, but you can basically sit there and slaughter them, then walk up steamrolling the boss to Escape. I guess if I were to redesign it, I’d make it LESS stumps, but you’re actually being pressured to bring them up north, the challenge being a decent chunk of the party has rescue penalties.
On a purely positive note, this game has sufficiently ruined all other & future fire emblem games for me, thank you Pandan. I’m in the camp this game plays in which every move you make is pretty important 95% of the time and thats why i love it
Hello! I have a question, do I get a second prf for Larisa? I accidentally used all of it on part 1 and i´ll be sad if I can´t get another one u.u
thanks in advance for responding.
I don’t think so, other than Lords maybe, units only get one. Though you’ll get plenty of weapons for Larisa (and theres an utlimate spear somewhere in the game that i’ve somehow yet to find). Using up her prf in part 1 is pretty normal
Burning through prfs isn’t that bad, often it just helps them get experience and they’ll be plenty strong without it once its gone
New favorite unit, Radoslav.
I always just took Bulan cause you get her earlier, good passive and cool cute druid. But I was realizing just how good con is in this game, and unless I have a ton of body rings sitting around, she’s gonna be limited to flux.
So, holy shit Radoslav is basically invincible w/ Nosferatu, maybe with a Secret Book or two for good measure & his speed isn’t so bad he would get doubled often.
Just gotta make sure to stock up on Nosferatu at whatever shop comes next.
I finally completed a run on hard mode, and I got the funniest Vagelis ever. He got res blessed early on so I committed to the bit and fed him every talisman I got.
Vaguelis is ALWAYS an absolute demon, man, I love him.
new favorite LP just dropped thanks @lowres
So, I am completely new to the romhack community, but I have been playing FE since No.7. Vision Quest has been my first title due to the overwhelming (and deserved) reviews. That said, I am unsure of this thread is still active. I just completed chapter 3-3 Protect and Serve, and despite finishing it by killing the boss with 2 different units (Waluyo and Onderdonk) with the same result. After the first conversation between Waluyo and Onderdonk the screen just flashes on a loop like I am being attacked by a trainer in a classic pokemon title and won’t progress. I can’t tell if I found a bug I can’t get around or if I am doing something wrong… I would appreciate any advice, as I LOVE the game, but can’t complete it as a result.
Does it persist if you reset?
I feel a bit silly, while going back in save states did not fix things, fully restarting did. Thank you!
