[FE8] Cerulean Crescent (31 chapters) [COMPLETE] (2.0 Update: Release the Birds!)

Actually, yes I did. Her presence confused me so much

I’m long overdue to play this hack, and I’ve been having a great time so far! One thing that’s bugging me a bit is that 100% growths seem to be on by default, and I can’t seem to find a way to make them normal. I don’t think this is intentional since the first post says that 0% and 100% growths are options. Am I missing something obvious?

There should be 3 patches in the download folder. The one called 1.12 is the normal one, the other two are 0% and 100%. You might have accidentally downloaded the 100% one.

Ah, I see now - I was lazy and just patched it from the Zip, it defaulted to the 100% growths version.

Hi I just got to chapter 14 and was checking my convoy. For some reason, my Coffee is gone! I was really careful on making sure I didn’t sell any sort of Ores or Uncut Gems for the quest, but the coffee I purchased is not in my inventory. Is there any way for me to edit my save to give myself the coffee back? Thanks!

Just finished!! ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!! I look forward to any new hacks you make!

Something Crazy just happened in my playthrough!

Spoilers for an Endgame Chapter

I had my Acielle talk to God and then she came crashing down and reverted back to a Civilian! God this sucks but the character development in intriguing and I’m going to keep the change to see what happens. I hope I don’t regret my decision.

Stuff like this is crazy and would only happen in a fangame!

Sorry for the double post but I just finished it. Thoughts

My ramblings
  • Acielle got a better ending than All for Nothing Deku :joy: (My Hero Academia Spoiler Warnings.)

  • I really appreciated Chixin’s growth going from a mechanical sacred sword to a chef.

  • Quilan the bard was one of my strongest units, and of course I lose her in the final chapter! I knew she was sus but she was my strongest Light Magic user. On my next playthrough I need to invest in Xeo.

  • But my favorite character by far is Ellerie. Such a good protagonist. Ambitious and makes morally questionable decisions, but I somehow could not stop supporting her. I played both endings just to see everything but even though a lot of people are happier in Ellerie Dead ending, I was really pleased to see her rampage in the Ellerie Conquest ending

  • I really wish Wisp was addressed more. Like did Ellerie even acknowledge the princess’ ghost? And her ending was all vague and stuff. I really wish more was expanded on for Wisp.

  • Oh and F for Locusta. I really wish she was given a chance.

Now to talk about unit strength.

  1. Quilan was my strongest unit by far before she betrayed me. She had no stat lower than 25 and could act a second time after casting on of her songs. It sucked not having her for the final chapters.

  2. Ellerie was broken. At first it’s hard to set up her multi-dance well, but after some levels and she gets her mount, it become pretty easy to dance 3-4 units. On top of that she was my second strongest unit in terms of overall stats. If you give her Tethys’ Tears, her sig weapon becomes an OHKO.

  3. Galeforce Gecko with either a frying pan or a magic sword. Unstoppable.

  4. Vermillion my beloved. Given the amount of babying he needs given how fragile he is, he should not be this high. But I could truly count on him to shred be a homing missle shredding enemies after some investment like with a fire emblem and extended movement.

  5. Lindros is an excellent tactical weapon. Being able to swap places with an enemy at range can nullify dangerous wandering units by giving the player the initiative to gang up on them after he Lunges. The fact that he gets an extra action after lunging is pretty overkill. His presence makes dismantling enemy formations pretty trivial in the late game.

  6. Godslayer Chalice. I suspect her strength comes largely from the fact that lots of Dark Magic tomes are OP, but she is my godslayer.

  7. Yvette was pretty strong because there were many strong bows in this game. I wonder if this is the reason why there weren’t many bow wielding units in this game.

  8. Reiker was strong because of turning any weapon brave is OP, but he had no defense besides dodging.

  9. Oriana turned out decent after promoting and getting a pegasus. Like Gecko, she was a great Magic Swordsman.

  10. I didn’t use Wisp until after the split and I regret it. Her ability to phase move vast distances and ignore walls would have been much appreciated in the earlier chapters.

  11. The rest of my thoughts are summarized in this tierlist.

I look forward to the update because I am interested in doing a replay on Hard Mode.

At the risk of sounding very rude and passive-agressive when I don’t mean to, it’s a bit of a shame that the hidden details end up open so they spoil me about things that I shouldn’t have seen right away. IIRC this can be avoided if you don’t have the details open before you finish the post.

Nah, you’re not wrong. The way it was done before made it so it started always hidden so I don’t know why it got changed

I’m so sorry I didn’t know that! Fixed.

I don’t think removing the soft 13 turn limit is a good idea.

Cerulean Crescent 2.0.

I don’t know when I intended for this to be done, but certainty not like a year since the last public release. A lot has changed!

New Portraits

Thanks to the phenomenal work of Levin, Lumi, Epicer, Basilica and Stitch!

New Birds

A common observation was that there weren’t many units who can fill needed spaces in the last stretch of the Crescent.

To remedy that, two brave souls fulfil the much-needed role as late game bruisers.

(Big Berd’s recruitment will not be prevented by minor inconveniences such as ‘dying’ as a red unit.)

Revamped Unit Kits

  • Tower can better protect his squishy allies by both rigging the weapon triangle at all times and keeping enemies stuck in place.

  • Poor Pomelo was always the first of the starting crew to hit the curb. He no longer has any penalties being a 8 move . Instead, switching forms is encouraged by Drop Attack for big burst damage if he uses up all his move

  • Mince can finally better fulfil the most most important part of an armour’s class identity, being extremely mobile. And also being bulky, I guess.

  • Vermillion’s Feather Fury now gives him a more flexible option to self-buff and deal some magic damage. His protection against long-range is now always available.

  • Murky’s personal weapon is no longer as impossible to understand. It now boosts both her staffing and damage.

  • Tasel’s tonics are now more flexible, being able to pick an effect on the spot after they’re used. Stronger effects extend the cooldown on his tonic.

  • Sixteen loses both her biggest weaknesses, lack of mobility and long ramp-up times. Is it too much? Maybe!

  • If Jo gets knocked out of his dragon form, he reverts forms instead of dying immediately.

  • Empress no longer summons afterimages. She IS the afterimage, gaining experience for all those bonus actions. She can also use swords now for reason of cool, thanks to Lumi!

  • Possibly the only real nerf, Xeo and Qiulan personal weapons are now use-limited.
  • A good few personal weapons got more charges and stat buffs, such as Crocodile, Corpsedrinker, Francisca, Siphon Spear, Hail Strike and Chain Hook.
  • Other more minute changes that I don’t remember.

Mechanical Changes

  • Locktouch and keys no longer exist. Simply use your hands.

  • A new optional mode, Manster Mode! To satisfy those hoarding urges.

  • 0% and 100% growths have been merged into a single rom instead the previous jank solution.

  • Added chapter numbers to quest entries

  • About the exp cap past turn 13, I did hear about how some people think it should stay. It’s here in a nerfed form, can be toggled on/off.
  • Changed some chapter objectives to reduce the amount of escalating timers, such as in ch1, 5, 7, 9, 14 and 20.
  • Prep shop now updates past ch14x.
  • No more low% crit in 20x. Heavybread is no longer garbage.
  • Anna now appears in 26x-1 for magic sword access.

Text Updates

  • About 90 more battle quotes so everyone gets some. Even Helisent… once.

  • Significant rewrites to chapters 1-10 to improve narrative flow (Chapter 4 to 5 transition, for example!) and to keep consistent with the later direction.

  • Rewrites to some stuff like endings and a lot of I don’t remember.
  • Try to iron out typos and making use of smile frames across the whole script (or in Mince’s case, frowning frames).

Thank you to Parrhesia and Benfrosh for some last minute proofreading!

Thank you to everyone in the Cerulean Crescent discord who have put up with my bullshit and diligently tested each version!

I’d also like to thank everyone who has given feedback and wrote down their thoughts on the hack! It’s always been a joy to read.

For an absence of doubt, there’s honestly no more updates planned besides typos and bug fixes. Those are inevitable, but I really do want to work on new stuff.

I have been waiting for this! I’ve logged into FEU an unhealthy amount of times just to check on the progress of this lol. Thank you so much for this update. Literally my favorite rom hack I’ve ever played and it’s now even better! I’ve put in almost 100 hours into the last version and can’t wait to sink my teeth into this incredible world of yours again. Congratulations on releasing this lovely update my friend.

A quick question, is getting the endings the same way as last version? I know it wasn’t mentioned but I wanna make sure I’m able to complete every ending again.

So when’s 3.0

Yeah that hasn’t changed.

I’m glad past Rivian had the '“foresight" to prevent the legally binding promise with the almost.

Will saves from the previous version be compatible with 2.0, or will a full restart be needed?
