Faces of a Stranger [~Halfway Complete, 13/? Chapters] (FE8U)

Hello! I bring a new patch in time with the wonderful new FEE3 clear by lowres!

New and Exciting Act 2 Stuff

The first half of Act 2, from Ch10-12, is now complete! This brings the game from 9 chapters to 13 chapters. I think some of these maps are massive successes from a developer standpoint, in particular Ch11x.

You also get a sneak peek at what comes after Ch12 after beating it, including a gameplay-only bonus chapter for those who wanted a more difficult or fast-paced finale for the patch.

Ch13 and Ch14 both exist in playable states, but they don’t have writing, so I didn’t want to release them quite yet.

With these maps comes new portraits, classes, items, and a PoV shift.

The other thing I wanna mention is that, as you many have been able to notice, the statscreen changes based on your window color now! This is admittedly unimportant, but I think it’s really cool and cute, and it especially makes the red look a lot cleaner.

Act 1 Changes

There’s been some big and small changes to Act 1. For one, a ton of new portraits for bosses, and a ton of new boss conversations to go with those portraits. I think Act 1 is significantly more fleshed out than before, and this is a big reason why. Major shoutouts go to RandomWizard and Alexmanpersonguy for doing so much portrait work for Faces, as well as BobbyAsaka and epicer for writing tips.

The other major change is balance. Most of the game plays very similarly, but I do think two changes stand out above all: Medicine durability is decreased, and EXP Gain has been cut by 10%. For these reasons, I do recommend playing on a new file, especially if it’s been a while, because I think the new coat of paint in Act 1 is worthwhile. At the same time, it’s not the end of the world if you don’t want to reset. You won’t run into compability issues, just some slight imbalances at worst.

But I WANT a painfully in-depth changelog of all the Act 1 changes!!

uh okay man

Fixes:

  • Some slight tweaks to the old chapter scripts. Overall minor, but there’s a small handful of new interactions and boss conversations and such, especially in Chapters 6, 8, and 9.
  • Chapter 1 looks a little prettier.
  • Devil Axe mentions its inability to backfire now.
  • New drums for a couple of songs.

General Balance:

  • Experience gain has been reduced roundly by 10%. It’s mostly just slight snowballing prevention.
  • Promotion gains are slightly worse, but not by that much.
  • Poison now also reduces Atk by 3 for its duration.

Unit Balance:

  • Sarya: +1 Base Lv, -1 HP.
  • Zorei: +1 Spd.
  • Draven: +5% Spd/Luck.
  • Yasmin: -1 Base Lv.
  • Dez: -1 Base Lv, -1 HP/Def.
  • Charsiu: +1 Pow.
  • Scramblit: -20 Bow WExp.
  • Reggie: +1 Pow/Luck.
  • Calibre: +1 HP, +30 Axe WExp.

Weapon Balance:

  • Steel weapons (and Super Bomb) now grant increased WExp.
  • Beast Killer: -10 Crit (30 → 20)
  • Lancewinder: +1 Mt (5 → 6)
  • Ruby Pike: +2 Mt (9 → 11)
  • Heavy Spear, Dragon Axe: Now D rank (previously C)
  • Arbalest: Now A rank (previously C)
  • Silver Bolt: +1 Wt (8 → 9)
  • Healing Medicine: Durability nerfs (Loose Herbs 30 → 20, Curing Balm 20 → 16, Far Tincture 15 → 10)

Chapters:

  • Chapter 4’s reinforcements have been slightly accelerated. (Turns 2/4/7/9 → 2/4/6/8) Turn limit unchanged.
  • Chapter 5 has more back reinforcements. It’s not a big deal, it’s just for vibes.
  • Chapter 8’s house reinforcements are less mean. (They also have a warning)

Quick update with a few (one) balance fixes

  • Paul now has A Medicine, and Liechi Tonic is now A rank. This change works retroactively, so if you got Paul already, booting up any map on the new version will update his weapon rank accordingly.
  • There’s a few other changes but they don’t matter all that much
