I decided to give this a try since i’ve seen it a couple of times but never got around to playing it, and a friend brought it up to me on Discord. I played up to chapter 5 in a blind soft ironman (game overs means restarting, but dead units stay dead), and ended up losing Lou in chapter 2, and thought i’d leave a small first impression.

The Good:

  • All characters are interesting and fun both in personality and gameplay. I found it hard to decide who to bench because i frankly wanted to train everyone.
  • The map design is pretty well made. All maps so far felt fun. Chapter 3 in particular was REALLY GOOD. For sure one of my favorite maps in FE Hacking.
  • Huge fan of the conservative use of Skills. Giving the Great Knight Jagen 90% STR and SKL and Canto+, but FE1 Jagen tier growths in everything else was a very creative idea, meaning he’ll certainly fall off compared to other units when trained, but will never not be useful.
  • You get enough units to make it Ironman friendly, which is a huge plus in my book and adds a lot of replayability.
  • I enjoyed the conservative approach of Vanilla esque but slightly different when it comes to choice of UI or animations. I feel like a good amount of hacks overdo it in this department nowadays, where it feels akin to a wannabe gangster showing off his gold chains and iPhone, so this is very pleasant to my eyes.
  • A good amount of the dialogue is funny and well written.

The Bad:

  • The only minor gripe i’ve had with maps so far was that it would’ve been nice to get some keys in Chapter 2 to just make the flow a bit quicker. I know getting those 2 chests behind the berserker is a bonus objective, but still.
  • The Dialogue in the first few chapters was a bit too long at times. I felt like some things get overexplained (the prologue boss death scene comes to mind). I can provide the dialogue bits i have in mind if it is of any use for you
  • Prosel felt hard to use early on. Mine was very speed screwed and had base speed at level 6, so my impression of this was probably amplified.
As an Axe fighter you’d think he can atleast take 2 hits, but his bulk feels akin to Lyn gameplay wise, despite his personality and design screaming Hector to me. My first idea to fix this but keep the intended balance would be to increase his base HP and maybe even defense a bit. Feel free to lower his HP growth or HP Promo gains slightly if you’re worried about it making him too strong later on. His accuracy felt perfectly fine to me though, especially after getting a C support with the Jagen and using his PRF axe.

The Neutral:

  • The unit portraits, and Prosels animations felt a bit off at first, since the artstyle is slightly different, but they very quickly grew on me and felt natural afterwards.

All in all:
Really fun and well made hack. Am excited to continue playing it. And will eagerly await any future Projects you have in mind.

Hi, where are the secret shops. Really enjoying the game. Just got the thief with the membership card

With the Member Card, you can check it’s description for the numbers on the back for hints on which chapters contain them.

The exact locations are included in the Secrets and Easter Eggs guide in the OP.

Hello.

If you’ve never heard of it before, there is a sorter online where you can match a cast’s characters up against each other to rank them on a sort of scale. I’m pleased to announced that the cast of Shackled Power has been added to the section for Romhacks.

If you wish to try out the sorter, check it out here!

Still haven’t completed my first playthrough as I started other things but wow. I never thought I would see the day when my general has maxed Speed. I think that was just such a cool thought. Is there a reason behind Hute’s amazing speed growth like character wise or you just thought it would cool to see? He is faster than enery Pegasus knight’s and I love it

He grew well, I see.

I just wanted to make a knight that wasn’t painfully slow. To keep it balanced, I made him like FE6 Bors where he has terrible starting speed but a good growth. Thanks to not being Bors, it is significantly more effective here than in FE6.

I hope you continue to enjoy him.

There actually is a reason for his high Speed, I think

His Nello support suggests that he’s actually a pretty quick and agile guy when his armor isn’t weighing him down. One of his other supports also explains his relatively low Defense base too, at least compared to other knights.

ahhh ok that was what I was wondering like if someone brings it up in conversation or something at some point because typically they do in supports. Like when someone has like abyssal luck they usually be like ā€œyou’re an unlucky guy aren’t you?ā€ lol

Ahhh Bors did do well for me. Either way I am thankful he is for sure my Ace. Has gotten me through many a hard time.

Hey I made an account just to make this comment: this is without a doubt my favorite hack I’ve played. It’s good to the point that I’m a little sad I won’t get to experience it for the first time again lol. Love the characters, bombs, narratives, and some great music choices (especially the song that plays against the more important demon bosses in the endgames. Also who knew having some funky sounding songs would work so well in a fire emblem hack?). Fantastic work!

@Sphealnuke Chapter 13, the 1st save point north makes the game crash on mGBA!!

Hey, sorry to hear about that.

These old kinds of save points can be glitchy on occasion, and some people can go through the entire game without running into this. If you’re afraid of a crash, most emulators can make save states. So make a state before using one in case the crash occurs. If it does, just play it out from there. I’m afraid that we still can’t determine what exactly can cause this crashes to occur.

Chapter 22 has also caused a crash in the past with one of its save points, to warn you ahead of time.

Yea i started to make a save state instead of usin the save points.

Hello, everyone.

I’ve just updated the patch to Version 1.2. This brings along a difficulty selection, allowing you to have access to an easier campaign. If you were turned away by the difficulty of the hack before, perhaps this mode will be more to your liking.

I have additionally stomped out more bugs and typos thanks to all of your help and playthroughs. I’ve even updated some of the old mugs that needed it to be higher quality than before. Below are just some examples (New on the right, which should hopefully be obvious):

ArtExamples

Full Patch Notes

-Easy Mode is now selectable. This weakens the equipment of some enemies, weakens/removes enemy units outright, and gives the player slightly more resources to work with. Difficult Mode is still present, but changes automatically to Normal Mode if you select it.
-The Mercenary with a Silver Sword in Chapter 9 was changed to a Fighter with a droppable Silver Axe, making the weapon available earlier and matching the distribution of the other silver weapons.
-Madari and Evans are now considered to have escaped in Chapter 17 so long as they have not been killed before the turn they would normally escape on.
-Several characters have had their portraits updated/redrawn.
-A battle animation for Wyvern Riders wielding axes (By Mikey Seregon and Alfred Kamon) was implemented. This isn’t normally used, but it does fix an issue that can occur when promoting Nidas while he has the Bloodaxe at the top of his inventory.
-An additional map sprite was added for a certain character in some scenes (Thank ArcherBias).
-A large number of typos in the support conversations were corrected (Thank BobbyYukitsuki).
-Fixed thug-type thieves using the wrong map movement graphics and sounds (Thank Gold).
-Fixed the boss of Chapter 1 barking orders even if he’s been killed before giving them.
-Fixed promoted Clint and Kassandra having errors in the piercing frames of their attack animations.
-Fixed Ray having his possible responses to Darrel reversed in Chapter 21x.
-Fixed a late-game foe not having a death quote.
-Fixed a softlock that could occur in the ending if certain units were killed.
-Minor text/graphical adjustments.

It’s certainly been a long journey to get all of this out. Outside of some additional typo and bug fixes (There may be some spotty stuff in Easy Mode that I didn’t manage to catch), this will be the final major update that I make to this game. I started this during my studies in college, and as of now I’m working a full-time job to start supporting myself. My hacking journey definitely isn’t over, but this is likely going to be the end for Shackled Power.

For the future? Look out for more sprites and battle animations by me. I’ve gotten good enough to put my skills out there and make other people happy with them. I’m sure there’s something much bigger than this that I have yet to find.

Once again, thank you all for checking out this hack. It means the world to me that I’ve been able to entertain hundreds of other people with this silly story, and I hope you’ll continue to enjoy it.

Until next time, take care of yourselves.

Can I update it with the current patch and continue or do I have to start over?

No severe changes were made to the game other than the difficulty selection, which shouldn’t affect a save that’s already on it by default. So it should be possible to transfer the battery save and continue your file.

Great hack, really an overall package with a varied cast that makes you want to replay to check them out . Looking forward to more stuff from you!

Hello.

The original version 1.2 patch mistakenly lacked the new portraits for Prosel’s various variations, resulting in him reverting to his old design in the statscreen and during several cutscenes. That has now been fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience.
