I think I fixed it. It seems the NPC version of Erik (Green Unit) had the wrong ID, since I have a Cutscene Erik, and a Player Erik. I couldn’t replicate the crash, but I did get a softlock in that scene before the fix.
No idea about the Speedwing, none are even obtainable yet. But I’ll post a bugfix patch sometime today so the hack can be played further than this issue. It could be useful if you sent your save file so I could compare some things, maybe something went horribly wrong on your end.
It would also help to know what emulator you’re exactly playing on. Either way… I hope I fixed that issue. As shown below, the cutscene now works properly again. Weird how I didn’t notice this sooner.
The cutscene worked fine the first time, it just froze there when the save file gets reloaded. I am using visual boy advance. I used the emulator’s rewind feature to go back to before I reset and the game works fine
Well, Visual Boy Advance is notoriously low quality for emulation, and it’s likely that romhacks will be somewhat unstable at best… Though, alot of Chinese players only use it, so it’s a bit weird. Could you try playing on MGBA? You don’t even need the GBA Bios for a much better experience. The more accurate the emulator, the better. I haven’t been able to replicate the issue at all, only getting the odd softlock from mismatched unit IDs.
Well THAT’S horrifying. I’ve uploaded two new builds to the Mega Link, that includes my fixes to the event. One is an alternate UPS file that is a Rom Rebuild UPS, which I literally made just now and could just not work at all because I have no idea how Rom Rebuilds work. Give it a go. If it continues to crash, try a new save file. Maybe your save got corrupted via VBA Jank.
I noticed a couple other issues, which I’m fixing right now. Apparently, I accidentally placed a boss for a Xenologue on the map as a Gorgon. Maybe I accidentally replaced it’s ID? Either way, just uh… Ignore the fact that Teodor is in Chapter 7 until I get the next hotfix out. Really wish I noticed that sooner as well. I do full playthroughs so often, so it’s weird how I missed that.
I examined everything in the rom, and everything is as it should be. I still cannot replicate those freezes/crashes though. 8-18-24 V2 is now in the Mega Link.
Apologies for the absolutely abyssal quality of the photos, but I can confirm that the hack atleast functions on real hardware. Can’t say much else until I test it fully. Still waiting for my DS ML to come in for that, as the GBA Flash Cart arrived sooner than expected.
Still hard at work. I have to thank the people who contribute to the repo for the amazing content that’s available for usage at any time. Without this amazing stuff, I wouldn’t be able to make something like this.
I did also brush off my old midi editing software so I could port some more songs manually. I’m hoping they’re well liked when used ingame.
Outside of potentially trying to move dead units, I don’t see any issues here. Then again, it WAS still giving items to Cutscene Erik, but if the dialogue still played out properly, you should’ve just… never received the items? I don’t know why you’re having so many issues with chapter 7 when it seems to be working fine on everyone else’s end…
Either way, I’ll look into it. Here’s some of the eventing so someone smarter than me can cell me a dumbass and explain 20 ways of doing this better. I don’t see any issue here that’d cause you to never advance past the green unit dialogue.
I rechecked all of the IDs, made sure the eventing was proper, and did some minor fixes. I just hope that I actually fixed it. I really have to get someone really experienced with FEBuilder to take a look at all of my eventing later on to see if there’s other potential issues. But everything should be good for the next build, which I’m going to put out when Chapter 11 is fully playable. Which might actually be later today if all goes well.
I’ll do another real hardware test with everything. All should be well now, but if you keep experiencing issues, you may want to swap to NanoBoyAdvance to see if your emulator is the cause. You could be running a really old build of MGBA or something. Your save files if you kept reusing the old one also might be corrupting something. Since NanoBoy is incredibly accurate emulation, it might help.
Shown here is Chapter 7’s End Event working properly after the NPCs talk to Erik.
I think I’m coming close to finishing this next build. Chapter 11’s dialogue is about 30% done, and I’ve been fixing numerous smaller issues. The latest changelog is over 29 entries long, some being small things like “Inventory edits to Chapter 9.” or as big as “Fixed a massive oversight where killing the boss would not end chapter 9 properly. This was due to me accidentally deleting their Battle Quotes and Death message.”
Yeah, I don’t know how I accidentally managed to overwrite those messages either. I had Chapter 9 planned out before even finishing Chapter 3, so it’s kind of embarrassing I messed that one up. Either way, maybe later? Maybe on 9/12? (Uploading a new build on 9/11 seems a little disrespectful, y’know?)
