Just beat Army of Darkness chapter. So far, enjoying myself a bunch. A couple of questions and thoughts:
- Kyra is a great protagonist, and has really solid unit feel.
- Getting a lot of units in the same classes does open a wide range to pick my favorites, which is actually kind of fun. This is the only hack or FE mainline game where Armored units were strategically so useful that I’ve wanted to run multiples.
- The class changes are cool. The wider availability of magic all around gives this hack a very unique gameplay feel.
- The plot feels very classic FE. Very much captures the feeling.
- Only having 1 healer is a very unique twist on the mechanics. In most chapters, it works really well. It does kind of encourage using a “deathball” strategy of keeping all my units in a tight knit block. I think, from a design perspective, giving Apate Physics earlier and adding more objectives could have led to positioning flexibility that would help “unshrink” the limits of the map design.
- Using a completely different set of map palettes gives a strong sense of “place” to your world that I haven’t seen in other hacks. It’s a cool detail that I really apreciate.
A spoiler question, and then a spoiler criticism:
Summary
<To recruit polonius, i shouldn’t have killed any of the undead, correct? I’m regretting not catching onto that in time. I’m gonna replay the map.>
And
Summary
I will say that Pheme dying is leaving a pretty bad taste in my mouth. She’s a character I liked and a unit I invested considerable effort into training + given valuable resources to. I’m more mad at the design than I am sad at the narrative. Doubly so because this is happening to a young female character, which feels kind of cheap and stereotypical.
It’s the only thing in this hack that I flat out dislike.
Ultimately, thanks for all the hard work. I’m looking forward to continuing.
