Huh, I see. Still, letting Nicaea kill Aura makes a better scene than killing Aura in Chapter 14, in my opinion.
Aura still dips and flees if you kill her in Chapter 14. Nicaea then ambushes her off screen. (This kinda makes her scarier because she’s just being nonchalant and vague about it.) Generally, though, the player will attempt to spare Aura anyway because they think they can recruit her.
Agree. Aura has an air of the Pegasus Knight you can recruit in the earlygame, yet out of three Pegasus Knight, only Nicaea is recruitable.
just rambling but I’m just gonna share my thoughts on each character’s objectively intended promotion for the fun of it
The easy ones
These ones are simple, whether it’s from the maingame or postgame supporting these
Pheme: Archer/Sniper
Phobos: Hoplite
Soter: General
Hecate: Druid
Kairos: Spellsword
Tiresias: Bishop
Scymerius: Halberdier
Fructuoso: Hoplite
The hinted ones
This category’s for ones where the promotion is implied through dialogue, similarities to family or friends, and just unit aesthetic.
Begona: Berserker (well the only other zerkers are Conan and Fruct, plus my girl seems like a crit machine)
Lopez: Assassin (haha 6 strength go brr)
Wulfric: Great Knight (Savior letting Tiresias ride the honse)
Agari: White Dragoon (like Pericles)
Nicaea: Falcoknight (like her sisters)
Orlaith: General (like the NPC armors in Ch8)
The toss-ups
These are the ones I’m unsure of, but am leaning this way over the other (some decisions made bc of class overlap and differentiating units enough).
Pluto: Sniper (edgelords dont mix well with honse + male sniper monopoly)
Vasiliki: Mamluk (the other archers fit better as snipers)
Fango: Bounty Hunter (beeg strength, beeg con)
Teresa: Wyvern Lord (magic who?)
Alonso: White Dragoon (he’s funnier on a horse)
Delilah: Swordmaster (had to differentiate from Kairos)
Jane: Bounty Hunter (also beeg strength)
Laertes: Black Dragoon (Class description matches his character)
Raleigh: Black Dragoon (they just fit better as a cav tbh + general inflation lategame + Orlaith has the Dark Knight > General spot)
Hestia: Warrior (magic usage would work well with smithing)
Nikolaos: Halberdier (hoplite removes his helmet
)
Glaucus: Wyvern Lord (secret promotion), alt GK
Euphraxia: General (Secret late recruitment, aligns with Sandy), alt Spellsword
Zaccheus: Wizard (funnily enough its still called Witch in the files)
Simeon: Artificer (thieving = dirtying hands = funny margrave shenanigans)
So yeah that’s that. IK there’s probably not a specific canon or anything, but theorizing is fun ![]()
Peak hack anyway
P.S. give Hoplite Nikolaos the same sprite as Hoplite Scymerius for the funny, his helmet is irreplaceable
Chapter 19 recruitment
I paided him with Glaucus but then it still has a talk with Kyra asking also money even when he is already blue. Is it important?
You can recruit Jason with either Glaucus or Kyra. Recruiting him with Kyra is more expensive since Glaucus got a discount from his father paying parts of it, but otherwise they aren’t different gameplay-wise and story-wise. The Kyra conversation is probably a bug of the recruitment conversation not going away if you recruit Jason with Glaucus first.
Summary
So basically bugged Rennac but I still pay a bit. 1.5k for a bargain unit that has actual combat feels good because unlike Polonius he can do something besides shopping.
I agree with most of these, except for a few.
Promotion
-Nicaea could be Malig Knight to symbolize her defecting from the inquisitor side to fight alongside the rebel, standing on the opposite side of her sisters, who are Falcoknight.
-Pluto could be Mamluk since he mentioned about crossing blade with his brother in one of the earlier bond conversation, and Mamluk is the only class that lets him use sword. Also, Pluto is clearly a nod to Navarre archetype, the earlygame edgelord who started off as enemy Myrmidon with Killing Edge and is usually associated with the earlygame female healer of your group. In Pluto’s case, he’s an archer with Killer Bow, and he’s recruited with Apate, your (only) female healer.
-I feel that Vasiliki fits Sniper more than a Mamluk since Sniper fits more for a simple village girl (like Rebecca in FE7) while Mamluk fits more for nomadic tribe or trained soldier.
-Eupraxia fits Witch more since she’s just like the witch in myth, being an elderly old woman living in a lone cabin in the woods (just like Coronis), plus her Strength is nonexistence.
-Spellblade could fit Zaccheus too since Spellblade got a magnificent cape, something a man of his status definitely loves to have. Plus, Spellblade allowed him to use sword to deal with Simeon easier.
-Druid could fit Simeon too since Dark Tome and Tomebreaker means he gets an advantage against Zaccheus’s anima tome.
@Dragon_of_Vale Thank you for all your in-depth impressions on chapters and characters alike! There’s a lot there, so I won’t respond everything, but I do have a couple thoughts.
The thorts (spoilers here)
Dolus and Alastor having very pitiful last stands was intentional. By that point Sandraudiga’s made her move and stabbed them both in the back. When you finally get to them, Alastor’s accepted his impending doom, and Dolus is about to die with his secrets revealed and his powers stripped away from him. Not to mention Kyra’s own primary goal since the start has just ended in failure. There is nothing triumphant about the situation at all, and I tried to convey this with the atmosphere of chapter 23 and the lack of reinforcements and generally disorganized defense in chapter 24.
I did intend Chapter 19 as a little breather between the 16-17 gauntlet and the rush to the finish. But I do get where you’re coming from. At that point of the story it can feel a little disconnected. At least Eudoxus and Hippalus are there to give it some purpose.
Actually, fun fact: I was going to make a witch/wizard distinction… until one of my playtesters pointed out that witch is a not a gendered noun. That’s right, in the modern day it’s more commonly associated with women, but technically it works for anyone.
Yeah that’s a bug. Silly me forgot to have the recruitment cancel out both convos after adding the second one. I’ll fix that next patch. Good catch!
Wizard is a class?
Almost done! I’ll finish my run tomorrow. Just a few things
Final base event
This is supposed to happen, right? Demeter’s buff breaks caps but I guess there isn’t any way to keep that unless Kyra is already at 20.
On a battle conversation in Final 2
I went to check who had battle convos in FEBuilder and noticed that Edward is listed as having one with the boss but no conversation is actually set. Not sure if that one was intentionally removed, but I thought I’d point it out since I found what I’m assuming is their conversation in the text editor (131D).
Edward is the best character, for the record.
The conversation exists, there’s just something a little special about it which is why it’s set weirdly (nothing that should affect your run though)
Also... (Spoilers)
Glad you like the guy. I definitely enjoyed having the power to not give the mentor/father figure the inevitable fate of his kind.
Spoiler
Hmm… I see. I forgot to consider that chapter 23 is the ‘battle for whose sake?’ moment since one side is doing a losing battle, and one side just lost one of their main goal. For Chapter 19, I can see that it’s definitely a ‘break’ in the story comparing to Chapter 16-18 and upcoming Chapter 20 onward, but having to deal with constant high-crit Berserker reinforcement isn’t what I would call a breather chapter here.
I don’t know if Scymerius dissapearing after chapter 19 without a word is intended or not, but definitely funny
Scymerius disappearance is intended and perfectly normal
Since i’m honestly still bit upset about losing Pherme. I have to say it actually hurt me since mine turned out so good that it will be impossible to replace her. (she also has light purple for her clothing so that also is peak ) and no a prepromote sniper with dark purple hair doesn’t replace her in my eyes. So the question is and i know id prefer normally no spoilers but are there any other purple having characters be it hair or armor or anything that will be permanently removed that i should know of? I don’t want to risk training another character and losing them. Just name the character and not why or how.
Does that means I lose HIM TOO??? Man If i lose all the characters i train and care about
it sure hampers on my interest in actually finishing the game . especially with him since he actually has edited unique battle sprites so hes not replaceable by anyone T. T,
only other unit that leaves permanently is
Spoiler
Soter
Each mercenariy has a gimmick.
Vasikili has awful bases and joins underlevel but has the vulneraries production (also Sniper promo bonuses fixes her if you are willing to use her), Fructuoso is a provoke physical tank that loses HP each round of combat and Scymerius has really good combat but dissappears for some chapters twice.
Enemies: You are supposed to be weak and need set up for kills for your coins.
Lopez: triple effectiveness and high speed go brrrr.
Also I think that this class description maybe should change because they are in a lake.
That sucks too but i can actually replace them with a different purple amor wearing holy knight (that old guy that came with the wyvern lady ) and from stats that one might be overal better anyway from what I checked. Guess i have to restart the current chapter i’m on to switch the knights outl lol.
