Mayan Emblem [DEMO 8 chapters, 22 planned]

After playing a LOT of fe hacks, I decided to make one of mine. But after working a lot, I kinda lost the vibe. But now, For one last time, I intend to make one last project, significantly shorter. I had a dream one day, and I have the inspiration to tell you a very personal story. I know I’m not the best writer, artist, musician or game dev, but I tried to put my soul in this hack (figuratively speaking). Since I was ten, I always admired the precolumbian civilizations. So,I created a new continent in which 80% of the game will take place. There are many things you will find familiar and many new things to discover. I hope that you may like it.
In any case, it was sure a wonderful adventure. I always dreamed to make games, but life take an unprecedent turn. Now, I don’t know how much long it will take, since I’ll be pretty busy, but I will try to complete it. Heck, this is something I’ve been working on parallel to Temple of Ardesia.

This hack contains:
—22 unique chapters, with various side objectives and unique mechanics
—10 Gaidens, between shops, secrets and specials.
—a cast of 56 unique characters, some of them are returning from Temple of Ardesia
and some are mutually exclusive. In any playtrough, the player will have at most 46
units during the late game. Many events will have the player units shift allegiance.
–A big focus on magic: there are 8, yeah you read that one correctly, EIGTH types of magic:
fire, wind, ice, water, earth, thunder, light and dark. Most mages can only learn one type.
–Each magic has his own properties.
–Are you tired of proc skills? My hack has none, all of them are activate based on specific
conditions. For example, Adept always activates if user SPD is strictly greater than foe.
–One personal unique skill for each playable character.
–Lots of new weapons and tomes, in particular, obsidian weapons
–New classes to reflect the meso-american context ( I still need to draw the battle animations)
Some of them are the Jaguar, Eagle, Macaw, Lizard, Shark and Snake Warriors!
–New factions, between energy beings, plant people, undeads, lizard, wolves, dragons and much more.
–Supports exist, only in practice: there are no support convos, but you still get the bonuses
–New support affinities, like blade, horse and earth
–Each unit has a personal weapon, some units have a shared weapon.
For example, all Holcan can wield Atlat, a special javelin.
All thieves and the like can use knives in addition to swords.
–Enemy composition varies between difficulties (to be done in the future)
–A fascinating and unique story
–Each mage has a special unique elemental power that depends on the environment
they are currently in
–Interlude chapters in which you can buy, talk and obtain secrets and items.
–New portraits
–Postgame planned (not much, just some extra non plot relevant maps)
–Basic Qol improvements, like life bars, seeing enemy movements and checking growths
–Custom UI and battle animations
–Slings, blowpipes, magic mines, totems, atlat, macuahuitl, boleadoras and many new arcaic weapons for the mesoamerican units.

Demo is here! Download version 1.5.

I have yet to write the credits, but I would you like to thank specific persons for their hacks.
4 Kings by KrashBoomBang for the idea of giving to each unit a personal weapon
Cerulean Crescent by Rivian for the idea to modify existing skills. I found out that I could’ve done that with the disassembler, as using the custom builds is too much for my tiny brain.
EligorSpear for the idea to change enemy types and placement based on difficulty, as well as to make the player live as miserable as possible.
Souls of the Forest by Scraiza, for no particular reason, I like the first sixe chapters of his hack.
Vision Quest by Pandan for unit variety and dinamic map objectives.
Bloodlines by Ghast and many fantasy RPG as well for the idea of putting new human-like peoples.
Dream of Five by Luminescence and Parresia for how to do worldbuilding without using 1000 words.
Deity Device by Permafrost for his amazing story, which in turn inspired me to write this one.
Shackled Power by Sphealnuke for giving me a reason to not make desert maps and making one nevertheless. Also for introducing new weapons types.
7 Siblings by Warpath, Illuminated by Sokaballa. I liked their hacks.
Now, these aren’t hacks, but never the less: American Conquest, Age of Empires 2 and Port Royal for helping me discover the Mesoamericans.

Really loving the look of this FE hack game even the lore as well, I was like scrolling through the FEU menu and found this hack 10 minutes ago. Can’t wait to try it out when I’m finally finish playing another game.

I hope that I can deliver. I know that a couple of other people are already working on their own Mesoamerican inspired hack, but I would like to be first if possible. Maybe I can deliver the Demo before 15th.

why exactly do you need to be ‘the first’, just produce a good project

I like being first.

Precolumbian History is very fascinating, so I wish you the best of luck in your project !
I really love the unique classes to reflect more this kinds of settings

interesting hack

I agree. I hope that my undestanding of precolumbian hystory is accurate. I’ve been studying hystory by myself.

Introducing you new factions.
Anima: energy beings who descended from the skies.
They look like beasts, but are intelligent. They have an natural talent for magic.
They player a secondary but important role in the story. Here are Icarus.

Florans are the main faction that you’ll have to deal with.
They are plant people. I didn’t invent the term, that I took from WarGroove and StarBound.
But floran sounds nicer than antro-fito (antros and fito being Greek for man and plant).
They are clearly based on Mesoamerican civilizations.
Here’s picture of a Sworn One (Mexica elite infantry)

Patch will be released tomorrow. Stay tuned for more updates. Remember that this is only a demo and that much will be changed.

Small guide and Encicolpedia.

Here in the new continent you’ll find familiar units and more.
Holcan
The mesoamerican equivalent to the soldier class. They wield lances as thier primary
weapon and uses swords as the secondary.
Like other units with shields, they can resist arrow fire quite nicely.
They promote to Jaguar Warrior.
Holcan
JaguarWarrior
Sotarotas
Floran archers. They have been teached from infancy to dodge arrows.
They can traverse terrain without penalty. They have the mirm stat line (focus on spd)
They promote to Snake Warrior.
Sotarotas
ArrowNoble
Winged Leaves (or razor leaves)
Plants who evolved their leaves in order to fly. Their stats a balance between the ones
of wyverns and pegasi. They aren’t weak to arrows since plants are hard to
kill with piercing attacks, but are vulnerable to wind and fire magic.
They use their sharp razor claws to attack.
They promote to Eagle Warrior, which enables them to use lances.
RazorLeaf
EagleWarrior
Naga warrior (or Anaconda Warrior)
Snake people who wield swords and bows. They have monstrous strenght and size but have
low defenses. They can swim and climb mountains. They are the equivalent of berserkers with
less defense and more speed and different weapon types.
NagaWarrior
Rose swordman
This one I made up. Maybe it don’t fit with the setting, but I like the idea of a flimsy
flower that can challenge migthy foes. Looks can be decieving, but the tribe of the
rose people are proficent in swordmanship and devote their entire lives to fencing.
Min maxxed to have top spd and skill, they would fall quickly to any direct attack,
as their bodies are frailer than wet paper. They use their thorns as swords.
RoseSword
Macaw Warrior and Xolotl Warrior are planned promoted foes to represent the general and mounted beserkers in the future.

Warning. The Demo should end at chapter 8, do not progress any further, as the end event of that chapter isn’t finished.

Upcoming Content
Coyote Warrior
Floran Scout infatry. Can move really fast in forest and mountains and uses axes.
Move is equivalent to cavalry units and its resistent to arrow fire.
Stat line is similar to mercenaries, balanced in every side but with low res.
Essentially, shock infantry like AoE 2 huskarls or Ghulams. Promotes to Xolotl Warrior,
which grants them a crit boost. Mesoamerican counterpart to the berserker.
CoyoteWarrior
XolotlWarrior
Macaw Warrior
Floran Heavy Infantry. Counterpart to the general. They wield axes and lances and and
cotton hardened with fire armor, wooden tower shields and some pieces of metal equipment,
mainly bronze. They are slow but very sturdy. I’m surprised not many knows that mesoamericans made quite good armor, not on the same level as the european steel plates, but nonetheless effective at blocking projectiles. For now, they are promoted units, but maybe I’ll put
a lance only floran infantry to promote into. I’m running out of rom space lol.

Long time no see. I’ve been busy with real life and my pc refuses to elaborate some times. In particular, my Huion Tablet is pretty nasty this month, and I didn’t had many chances to make portraits.

having said that, I’m doing progress in both finishing Temple of Ardesia and progressing with Maya Emblem. Here are som people who you might met in the journey across Florania (the new continent’s name).

Ephedra:
A Nihanian scout who came to Florania on the latest invading party. She’s a thief who managed to elude the guards, now she’s trying to make a living by venturing into the wild New World.
She’s a griffon knight.

Jinga:
She doesn’ talk much, or any at all. She follows the other plant units you’ll met along the adventure. She’s a razor leafwing.

Alba:
I wanted to finish her portrait, but the tablet got sick and it refuses to work.
She’s a bee warrior. Class general.

Dakuwaqa:
One of the many gods of the Polynesian mythology. He enjoys brawling and eating foes.
Wanders the ocean after suffering from a great loss. Class beserker.

Koaneka:
An anaconda warrior from the Cauac. She swore an oath to protect the water temple of Tlaloc,
together with the other guardians, Salica and Shal. Class naga warrior, anfibian sword/bows unit.

New patch has balanced enemies, fixed some bugs, some dialogue, moved some enemies placement, adjusted som eweapon stats, etc.

Last patch of the year. V1.9 adds a lot more dialogue.

Btw, after playing Cerulean Crescent, I was thinking on making a new type of card game event.
I would call it the “Pirate’s Arm”.
This is how it works: each player is given 5 cards which are represented by tomes of four different types: fire, wind, thunder and ice. Each tome has it’s own rank, from fire (rank 1) to bolganone (rank 4). Each player has a 50% to begin the turn. The goal of the game is to score 3 points. In order to score points, each player has to put down a card (tome). If the rank of the tome is greater than the one of the opponent, the player will score a point, if it’s less, the opponent will score a point, and if they are the same grade, both challengers will get a point.
If the cards aren’t of the same type, the ones who started the turn won’t get any point.
You can access the card game by talking to Detar.

Example:
The opponent sent out a meteor (fire rank 3), if you send a bolganone (fire 4) you’ll get a point, if you send a meteor both will get 1 point, if you send a fimbulvetr (ice 4) you won’t get any point, if you send any other card the foe will get one point instead.

What do you think?

bolganone is the dumbest localisation choice in existance, so therefore we should ignore it and call it Volcanone

How about Vulcan?

sure lmao

Happy New Year’s Eve!
I hope you’re enjoying your holidays.
For this special occasion, I made an OC (which stands for original cringe).
Meet the Agavenger.
He uses a modified Macuahuitl. Soon to be seen in the hack.

I doubt that next year I will manage to finish this “small” project, but in the mean time, I’ll make some game art for the characters.
