[LT] The will to live (beastfolk emblem) (7 chapters for now)

Here is my first proyect that i have been working on slowly.

Features:

  • Most of the cast are beastfolk… Or furries, call them as you wish.
  • Two lords, one is Daniel, a Fox who uses light magic and the other is Oliver, a human who starts in a trainee class and uses staves, he will also use dark magic after promoting to his real base class.
  • Some characters (including Oliver who is autistic) will have a disability that affects them in gameplay in one way or another, i recommend checking the status info of these characters when they appear,for now its just oliver, but my intention is that in the next version (ignoring bug fix updates) there will be 3 more of these.
  • A new class called “sky soldier”, for birdfolk born with wings is is hard to fly while carrying weight or to figth while flying, Sky soldiers have passed trough a hard training to do so, they use lances and have less movement than pegasi or wyverns, but they can take advantage of terrain bonuses.
  • Both a dancer and a bard, the bard can learn songs with different effects (the first one is a small aoe heal)
  • currently 7 chapters, including a X chapter (it is not optional nor missable) a prologue, and a interlude
  • Every playable character (and important enemies/npcs) have their own combat and map sprites
  • Character-driven narrative.
  • Many portraits whose clothes where used as a base and edited to have a beastfolk character there, some look less good than others, but i guess that means i improved over time.
  • Enemies do not cheat in fog of war, if you can see them, its likely they can’t see you (except obvius cases like thiefs)
  • There are skills that will work differently from the official games, specially Rng based “attack” skills (for example, Luna ignores less defense but it doesnt depend on rng, it will always activate) there are other skills (like Provoke or Life and death) that will be usable as “commands” (for example you can attack normally or use Life and death and receive the stats changes for that round of combat and the enemy turn)
  • Some skills will be upgradeable (for example dusk to Luna)
  • five difficulties and casual mode (there is an ocassion where you can lose units even in casual mode and there will be more for example: imagine a recruitable green unit situation where you need to talk with them recruit, except they start as a blue unit but can die in casual mode until you talk to them, there will be a warning of any of these instances in-game)
  • Legendary weapons will be overpowered (as they are in the prologue), but using them will have permanent negative consecuences on the units who use them , which can include dying even in casual mode

Punishments from the Goddess.

Out of the darkest of times and greatest of wars,
Came a Sorcerer of greater darkness.
Mordred, who formed a pact with sin,
And a Demon answered his call.
None could stand against his might.

In the darkest night when hope fell silent,
When the heavens wept,
The Goddess descended, radiant, kind, cruel.
Her wrath was justice itself.
She tore the demons asunder,
And her might united us all.

She bore three sacred relics:
A blade, a bow, two tomes of light.
To touch them was to perish unless chosen by fate.

The enemy bore dark mirrors:
An axe, a staff, a tome of bloody cruelty.
Held by the Three Great Vampires.

The Goddess sought three souls,
Enduring and worthy.
Ragna,
Whose love for kin made him mighty.
Alexandra,
Who fought not for glory, but what was right.
And the Nameless One,
Whose soul was hollow,
Until the Goddess filled him with light.

Together, we rose,
The Three Great Vampires fell.
Mordred and his demon were cast down,
But Alexandra fell.
The Goddess returned to the stars with a promise,
She would return in our hour of need.

Peace came to Esea.
The swords turned to ploughshares,
The flames of war cooled,
Yet still, those born Broken were forgotten.

But the Goddess spoke:
“The Broken are not curses,
But mirrors of your deeds.
Their birth reveals your guilt.
Their lives offer your redemption.
To harm them is sin beyond measure.”

Her faithful rose-
Not with blades, but open hands,
To cherish and shelter, to redeem their eternal souls.

I, once lost, now take up arms,
Not a Sword, but a Quill,
Not war, but Scripture,
That her mercy and justice shall be remembered,
That her name shall never fade,
For I was the third,
The last of her chosen.
I, once lost and nameless-
Now named Prophet.

While i think the game would be rated pegi 12, i guess it is apropiate to give a warning of potentially triggering content given the premise of the setting.

Trigger warnings
  • The most important is that in the setting those born disabled are considered “punishment of the goddess”, so there will be characters behaving in a ableistic way, also because of the setting a bunch of the disabilities wont be named ingame as they are in real life (for example, Oliver knows he is a “punishment of the goddess” but in game, in his status screen his autism is reffered as “deprived of bonds”)
  • Mentions of children dying offscreen, one NPC is a child that you have to protect

A lot of assets where taken from the repository, i tried my best to make sure everything i took and was edited was F2E. Eventually i would also like to make a list for the music used and from what games it is taken.

My playtesting has been one playtrhough on hard mode withouth anyone dying, so if someone dies and you see the dead talking, please call an exorcist, or report it here, that works too, apart from that there are some other know issues but it is playable

know issues.
  • When dying in combat coyote archers and dog clerics “reswpawn” for a second then “unspawn” again
  • The Ai doesn’t know how to use ballistae, for know as a workaround i have assigned them as items to the few archers who would be able to use them in the demo.
  • Dancing and Singing animations for Lila and chesire respectively do not play.
  • Chapter 3 will not end if one or multiple of the four units that have to scape has leaved as a “rescued” unit by an ally, for the chapter to end, they must leave themselves.
  • In chapter 4X you wont see animations when using magic because the animations for those spells are not implemented.
  • Not an actual issue but in the prologue enemies having 1 move is intended.
  • I dont know how to fix the first three so i would be gratefull if someone helped me with that.

  6. Access to the debug menu/all saves debug feature
  7. when the bandit moves in the first chapter intro, it’s pretty slow.
  8. Why is Damian so yellow?
  9. Right is misspelled as “rigth” multiple times. Fight is sometimes misspelled as “Fihgt”
    10 Oliver’s class/class description are misspelled. (Self Taugth/ Someone who learned magic withoth any mentor)
    I’d suggest you change his class name, it doesn’t seem very FELike. Maybe “Outsider Mage”? He also cannot use Dark
    magic like he stated in his intro. His stats are also abnormally low.
  10. So far (Chapter 2) the maps in this have been pretty big. FE4 got away with this because it had 1. a higher resolution, 2. roads 3. a lot of the areas being inaccessible.

Addendum: Where are the credits on the post?

yeah Grammar is one of the things i have to improve, english is not my mother tongue.

10: Oliver is in a trainee class, he is weak at first on pourpose, the idea is that when he promotes to his base class the stats gains makes him be more in line with other lvl 1 units, he cannot use dark magic, but this in on pourpose (there is a cutscene in chapter 2 after the first turn where he tries to cast but he fails. The idea is that while he wants to help, when faced when his first battle he got scared and that is why he fails at casting it.
as for his class name, the name i have intended for his base class is “medic shaman”

About the credits, it was in the “You can see the credits here” line before the download link, to be honest i should have putted it over the entire phrase instead in just the “here”, i edited it so its easier to see.

I really like the underlying story, it would be even greater with a go over to fix script errors, I see a lot of potential there. Like I said on the bugfxing post, I do recommend that you shorten and redesign your maps. Keep up the good work.

Thank you, While i think chapter 1 is fine how it is since the enemies come after you instead of the other way around, i can see how the other chapters may be beneffited from changes. I hope you are enjoying the game.

Since its holy week in my country i was able to get some extra time to test today and yesterday, i have updated the game and fixed a bunch of issues in chapter 3, there could be bugs in the following chapters but they should be less problematic than chapter 3. In any case i will keep testing and bugfixing when i can, but if anyone sees bugs i would be gratefull to have them reported.

I also have changed the prologue Loredump (wich is also in the “lore” section in this post) @JasonGodwin7 Rewrote it and i did a few little changes so that it fits more with what i had in mind with the original text.

So today i had the time to test chapter 4, fixed the issues i found aaaaaaaand… I have found that in chapter 4X for some reason a good part of the intro Script has dissapeared. GREAT…
From now on i have some free time back so i should be able to restore or rewrite that cutscene and test/bugfix the rest of the game so far to upload an update. It shouldn’t take very long.

Will this hack have supports and paired endings?

I want to add supports in the way FE12 onwards do where you theorically can get all of them for a character if you really want to, but i dont know yet about paired endings, maybe i will do like echoes and have different characters endings depending on who lives and who dies

Hi, i have finished playtesting and fixing chapter 4x and the interlude and i have uploaded the update, that said, my playtrough was on hard mode with no one dying, so there could be a few bugs with dead or absent characters, if it happens to you please report it so i can fix it.

Here is a small update about how things are going.

I have made another “interlude”, this one is from the POV of catherine, i need to test it and proofread it, you can expect the new version uploaded relatively soon. After that i intend to relase future updates (apart from bugfixes) when i get to a point i consider a good “stopping point” for the story.

I am also preparing a discord server for people who are interested. It is the first time i do a discord server so lets hope i dont fuck up things

apart from channels for discussing the game and other offtopic channels i will be having channels and categories decicated to ask for help from voluntaries either to help me fix the bugs and issues i don’t find the solution for or for voluntaries to make sprites so that everything goes faster (and i reserve the rigth to make edits to what voluntaries make)
