Yes that’s the only reason I haven’t picked it up. I plan to as soon as that check clears lol
Thank you all!!
I don’t think a game can ever be bug-free, but I think I’ve gotten the main bugs out of the way now that were having the biggest negative effects on saves/storage with hotfix v1.0.5. There’s still a few edge cases that I’m trying to iron out that can cause freeze ups, but I appreciate all the support!!
It’s been a wild release that’s for sure. I was not expecting as many players as I got, but it’s a good problem to have. I feel incredibly lucky that people seem to be connecting with the game so far, and I’m loving seeing all the different builds people have been sharing. Doing things I didn’t even really think about when implementing some of these abilities.
Man, I’m going to have to add this to my to play list because it really looks fantastic. Great work releasing, and I’m glad you’re getting a lot of notice and players. If my time and money weren’t so tight I’d definitely take a break from crunch to check this out. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much Rammerrush! Got up to a “Very Positive” rating which was a goal of mine, I didn’t really expect to get to 50 reviews for months though. Appreciate all your kind words.
I hope your crunch isn’t too bad, and you get some time to relax. I’ve been pulling like 16 hour days too the past couple months I feel your pain lol. Check DM.
16 hours days!
What time do you sleep eat and relax?
I’ve been skipping an alarming amount of meals, pretty much just eating dinner and maybe a banana throughout the day! Sleep about 7 hours, but more like 5 the past 2 weeks. My coding is my relaxing time.
Honestly, should probably be collapsing any minute now. I know this is going to sound cheesy, but the response to the game has given me energy like I’ve never felt before. At least never/rarely felt it in my “normal jobs”.
Yeah I think prolonged period without sleep and food has made you go Cuckoo. Cause this is exactly what a person high on his own success would say. I hope the sale of the game is enough to cover the hospital bill cause you are going to spend most of your time there if this keep up. For the love of God pull the game out of your brain and go to bed and eat your meal on time.
I got a full 7 hours last night and a solid breakfast this morning!
Thank you for this comment though because you’re definitely right I have been overdoing it. Hopefully back to healthier habits now that the stress of launch week has died down a bit.
Glad to hear it man
Honestly man I love it! Congrats on the project!
Theres of course some weaknesses still… but in a way that doesnt put me off. Instead, its in a way that makes me think “jeez, if this is basically v1.0, i cant wait for a sequel, or even to see where this game is at after a few months of updates”.
At this point, its really mostly just bug-squishing thats at the top of the queue - disappearing items being a main one. A little more ability to keep units looking unique as they promote (either the option to keep their standard look, or just keeping their head on whatever class body they switch to, etc…) would also feel nice. Sure theres more beyond that but thats the top for me.
Instead of talking about those few kinks to still work out though, i just want to call out some of what i really like so far.
First and foremost, i think Hexes is super dynamic and wish we saw it more. Did you ever play Berwick Saga (a game Kaga made after he left on his own)? In my view its amongst the very best FE games, and this game gave me that feeling for sure in a wya i dont think any other game ever has.
I also want to call out the innovation of the shield/block mechanics. This is another idea that really makes the game feel unique without being overly complicated. I love how this basically helps ensure that if you have a good formation your units can really sustain well across a fight without needing constant heals, but attacks after the first one each round really leave a mark so if you get swarmed youre in trouble (especially in conjunction with flanking/backstab mechanics). Plus then this system opens up for you to have your Axes as well to puncture through shields.
Beyond that, i like accessories as a way to customize characters. Love that theres a good range of weapons and seemingly scenarios in which you want each of them (Polearms have been most underwhelming so far but even then ive had times ive liked them). Refinements are cool. Dont know how balance holds up later on, but im fine with there being broken combos and dont tend to abuse them.
Game seems great and the fundamentals are so fun!!! Makes me already crave a future sequel where we get Mages and Cavalry into the mix, but at the same time i think the general simplicity is part of the charm!
Overall man kudos! Like i said: the bones on this are great and i cant wait to see it grow
This was great to read through, thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts.
I have played Berwick Saga! And while I didn’t get very far (very hard game), it’s definitely where I got ideas the idea that a hex grid could work for this kind of game.
I’m glad you liked the shield mechanic! I think it helps with exactly what you said, making it so you don’t need as many heals if you play around shields diligently. The variable regeneration on shields was actually recommended by @ScubaLuigi in this very thread! haha
I’ve already seen quite a few people create some busted combos that I didn’t anticipate once they get access to the last tier of classes, but it has been very interesting to see what everyone does. I think the challenge holds up very well until chapter 16, but if you’ve spent time customizing some powerful combos, you’re going to be doing some nuking on your player phase. You’ll still definitely be punished for your mistakes though as enemies become quite strong.
Again, thank you so much for the great feedback. I definitely would love to do a second, and already have some ideas for it story-wise. Maybe even introducing some low powered magic, but we’ll have to see! Got some more things I want to do on this one like controller support and a brutal mode challenge. Definitely more improvements to come!
