Fire Emblem: The Lonely Mirror (Concept for FE8 ROM Hack)

I found a version of this game in my dropbox and decided to play it. I really like this hack.

I found this bug tho. Really funny but unintentional. Heres photographic evidence to show im not insane:

Technically it is complete but the creator took it down from FEU for personal reasons. You can still get it if you DM caladrius or through the discord.

@MilesDragonite, I remember fixing an issue similar to this in the past. It was probably introduced because I had shuffled IDs around so much. What chapter did you first notice this?

Yes, I took it down because I am not actively working on this build and believe it turned somewhat into a Frankenstein with add-ons to satisfy a lot of feedback. I will still correct any major bugs that people find though. You can still get the game from the Discord.

At some point I do want to go back and refresh some things though. It’s on my personal project roadmap for sure.

It was chapter 27.

Good to know but I guess I’m still interested in having a look.

Are there any projescts of the same level?

Currently playing through this hack (on chapter 26) and just wanted to say, this dude is the MVP.

I’m about to start the last chapter. This was a fun hack, and I really enjoyed the setting of the story as well as the characters. The gameplay was difficult but fair for most of the game, although the amount of reinforcements in lategame chapters was very excessive. There were also a few chapter objectives/mechanics that weren’t so clear.

Here’s my squad at the end of the chapter right before the last chapter, with thoughts on each unit.

Squad

A great unit from start to finish due to his ability to dominate the weapon triangle early (especially with maps having lots of axe users) and his fantastic stats. However, he’s very susceptible to mages, especially the gorgons, which caused some difficulty in late chapters.

My favorite character in the hack! Love his portrait, his pragmatic personality, and his excellent all-rounder stats. I did not expect him to be so tanky. Paired with an A-support Myles, the two of them alone were able to handle swaths of enemies with ease, even into the difficult lategame chapters. Definitely the MVP of my playthrough, and he defeated Devante without taking a hit.

Joseph’s other half. Not as good as Joseph due to lacking consistent access to 2 range, but just as much of a beast in combat with his crit rate.

I did not train her due to her poor availability, but she still had utility in her forced deployment chapters due to having effectiveness against monsters with any weapon.

I added her to my party after she joined since she has high offensive power and staves rank. Very squishy and therefore relegated to a support/cleanup role most of the time.

I had high hopes for Leah after part 1, but unfortunately by the time I got her back as a playable unit, she (and the Ametona squad as a whole) was underleveled compared to the White Lions, and therefore did not see as much combat after that. When she received her auto promotion, she was only level 15 (whereas Boone was level 20 when he received his). Majestra pretty much carried her offensive utility.

Good bulky frontline unit with increased utility after gaining access to bows with promotion.

She got some good levels at the start, so I decided to use her instead of the other archers (also, I like her portrait). Pretty much a typical sniper with high speed and power.

He was excellent at the start due to his ability to one shot the enemy wind mages, but gradually fell behind as the game progressed because of his low speed. By the lategame chapters, he was mostly relegated to a healer role due to not being able to double anything.

He’s actually an extremely capable combat unit despite being my only thief and therefore typically relegated to chest duty. Knives being 2 range and the Cinqueda and Stiletto having unique properties allowed him to usually find a niche to exploit in combat. He one shot Judge Amanda with a critical hit.

Mostly relegated to a healer role due to the high difficulty in lategame chapters meaning healing was required almost every turn, but she was also capable of chipping in with damage where needed due to her high speed and respectable power.

Almost entirely relegated to a healer role due to her mediocre stats. I kept her around Leah most of the time so she could provide A-support bonuses to Leah.

Dancer. She actually wasn’t super useful towards the lategame chapters due to the insane amount of reinforcements (as well as enormous and open maps) meaning that at any time she could be in danger of being killed. I don’t plan to deploy her for the final chapter so that I don’t have to babysit her.

He’s a decent unit who stayed around due to his acceptable speed allowing him to double enemies where needed most of the time. With Lorgmor, he could one shot monsters in the lategame chapters pretty reliably.

Definitely worth deploying after getting him because of his excellent power, speed, bulk, and weapon ranks. With stats like these, I can only imagine what a terror the White Lions were in Ametona under his command.

It’s always such fun seeing people’s end game team.

Wow! You rolled an exceptionally good Joseph! His defense is nowhere near that high normally and his HP is +12 higher than where his average should be. I imagine you may have given him a robe or two. His power, speed, luck, and res are about where they should be for that level though. Still, happy he served you well on your run.

You are correct that a lot of the final maps have a ton of reinforcements, which I can understand is frustrating. I used reinforcements a lot in this hack as a way to control the flow of battle, so not all enemies are rushing the player at once. While I know there are other ways to control this by changing AI on specific turns, this method felt more cumbersome and required more IDs than I had available. It’s still something I can consider giving a refresh though. Thanks for the feedback.

You’re right - I gave him two robes, an energy ring, and a dragonshield. He got a bunch of defense level ups before promotion, which encouraged me to invest in him more since he was able to not only dodge tank but actually tank hits for much of the middlegame to early endgame.

I think it would be better for sure if the number of reinforcements was toned down in the lategame maps which are already very large. The massive amount of reinforcements slows progress down to a crawl and even required me to backtrack and turtle a few times. The difficulty of the lategame was a clear couple of notches up from the rest of the game, which was already quite difficult (but fair and enjoyable).

Also, I just started the final map and a bunch of characters I’ve never seen as well as NPCs, bosses are giving introductory quotes :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

weird quotes

Just a couple examples, there were like 10 extra quotes on top of the units I deployed.

He was basically my one man army!
