Ilmoro is correct but I’d like to expand on his answer a bit.
Supports don’t exist in the vanilla version of the game (except for one playable character and this is clearly communicated in game). However, there are shop chapters that include a good deal of talk conversations between characters to help flesh them out. There is a chance down the line that I include some paired endings, as there is a case for a few of them (even without the support levels).
However, there is a NG+ feature called mercenary mode that has 15 extra units you can recruit through the campaign. These units can get support bonuses and they level up supports simply by being deployed on the same map together, but there are no conversations between them and the support bonuses are strictly for stats (nor are their paired endings here either).
@Golden_deer Ilmoro is correct here. There is currently a playtesting build in the Illuminated discord that some kind folk are running through to ensure nothing gamebreaking is going on. Feel free to come in and grab it if you’d like to do some playtesting, the game is finished for all intents and purposes.
I can’t get past chapter 17-2. I stayed out of the enemy’s range, but I still got eliminated because they can move 2 times. I have spent 2 hours and still haven’t gotten past this chapter.
Because these enemies move every TWO turns, you need to let one turn pass where these enemies will sit still. On the next turn, you need to have Jay move up. Remember that enemies will move before entering enemy phase, so even though he starts in range of the knight, because the knight will move to where the cavalier is, Jay will end up outside of the knight’s attack range.
The mercenary above is your last real hurdle, and she moves every two turns as well. Spend one turn where you just moved to (in the third photo), and after one turn of that mercenary standing still, move up to the space in the fourth photo here.
The mercenary will have moved out of the way and cleared up your lane to the switch.
Hope this helps and thanks for playing Illuminated. By the way, are you playing the public version on FEU or is this the completed playtesting version going around the Illuminated discord?
Thank you for the guidance. I am playing the downloaded version on FEU, and I encountered a few minor bugs, such as the game freezing when entering the battle scene with the character Frederic. I must turn off combat screen to fix it and i think u need to build support for characters
Thanks! I think that palette came pretty well done already from the repo so I can’t take too much of the credit haha.
@zikalik The falcoknight animation had an error in the script that I’ve since fixed in the version that will be released publicly. Thanks for letting me know!
Ilmoro is correct, holding select during the beginning of any NUMBERED chapter will allow you to change the difficulty (when seeing the chapter title, hold select until you see the prompt to change the difficulty). Important to note that you can only change the difficulty for NUMBERED chapters, meaning you cannot change the difficulty for chapters where difficulty does not matter (like the prologue, interludes, and shop chapters). Thanks for playing!
I’ve updated the OP with the [Complete] patch. I’m so, so happy and thankful to have been able to finish the project. It isn’t the perfect game and it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I was able to make the type of FE game that I would want to play. For that, I am proud of it.
Huge, huge shoutout to all of the people who have helped me along the way. Vesly, Pikmin, 7743, Ilmoro, Shuusuke to name a few who were immensely helpful, but the list of credits and the list of people who have helped Illuminated become what it is today goes on and on. Thank you to everyone in the community for your help.
From here, I’m happy to hear any feedback you may have (good or bad). If you encounter any issues, feel free to report them here or join the Illuminated discord and come talk with us there.
Loving the game so far! Congrats on making it this far! Quick little thing. I’m curious in why you decided to use actual portraits of characters from main line Dad games instead of giving them their own? It’s not detrimental but it does take me out of the story a bit when I saw Renault lol
That’s a fair point you make. Truth is that originally when I started the hack, I had sometimes used placeholder portraits from either vanilla or the repo that I thought looked good at the time. It eventually got to the point that the game had been in development for so long that the characters just got imprinted on me and I never got back to changing them. By the time I finished, I also felt like that if I was going to change one or two portraits, I would really need to change all of them to have a consistent style… And then rom space started to become a real issue for that to happen. So I left them as is.
I’m very excited to play this through to the end. Illuminated became an instant favorite when I played through the patch about a year ago.
The ambition and quality of the writing are what really set this hack apart. Not many projects go to the lengths of character development that Illuminated does. Coupled with the small cast, this game really scratches the itch of a long RPG while maintaining the trpg format and gives satisfying payoffs.
Not to mention the unique mechanics like forging, the custom items/classes and the fun map design. Illuminated is truly awesome and I hope lots of people give it a try!
Thank you for the kind words on this @SgtStrings. I hope the end of the game and the story leave you with the same sorts of impressions as you have now. Would love to hear your final thoughts on things if/when you finish the game. Thanks again!
I can definitely understand and I figured that was the reason lol but honestly I am having such a blast playing this! I’ve played many hacks over the last decade and I can say without a doubt this one is definitely up there amongst my favorites so far, and I’m only on chapter 6! Quick question, are there any secrets to find in the game? I didn’t see any in the OP so I wasn’t sure if there are any or not. Either way, congratulations on a very good job well done with this one!
There are a fair number of secrets in the game and I have written up both a secret and recruitment guide, but I still wanted to keep it a bit more private because finding secrets naturally is part of the fun. However, if anyone would still like to see the guide, I have a channel for it specifically in the Illuminated discord. If you’d like to use it as you play along, I’d encourage you to join the Illuminated discord and check the #guides channel. Thanks again!
