Fire Emblem: Dark Stone - FE8, but you play as the bad guys! [Overhaul with a new story]

I hope I’m not rude, but I have some nitpicks.First, why is Knoll too stupid to simply teleport himself and join Innes army(after Garcia dies) ,instead of fighting an extremely uneven fight with Lyon’s army(in my experience,Lyon can desintegrate him with his personal tome).
Second, why does Duessel enter the fray in chapter 28,instead of recognising his attack failed and either fleeing Magvel with the stone, hiding the stone somewhere,or joining the twins ?

I’m on chapter 6 and i’m loving this hack so far, it feels… Very true i’d say to what an actual Fire emblem would be in terms of difficulty, mission design, characters or even story. Like if they made an actual What if Sacred Stones, this would be it.
Aside from that… I’m so, so happy Melina is a playable character. Truth be told, i just stumbled upon a random video of the hack and a comment said something about Melina supports and i was like “MELINA IS A PLAYABLE CHARACTER ?!” and instant downloaded the hack.
The -only- thing so far that i dislike is the choice of map musics. I get it, it’s supposed to be the ennemy phase theme but those are by far the worse musics in the game for me so that’s… That’s gonna take some times getting used to.

This and your fe6 hack have been one of my favorites to play so far. I hope you will make one for fe7 as well

Glad you’ve enjoyed my hacks! I will not make a FE7 one, but I do have something different cooking up in the oven.

As this is one of my fave hacks I can’t wait to see what hack is coming next. You have to include purple as an option for the windows xD

I don’t know about purple but I’m just about ready to start showing more of it pretty soon! Stay tuned.

I just really like the purple option in dark stone since it’s not a dark saturated one.
in any case can’t wait to see what you will do with your own original setting/characters and the like.

Nothing good. Nothing good. My description in the postgame remains accurate.

I would argue that the twins are still the primary antagonists.First, they are the ennemy of the Demon King from the Prologue until the very end, while Duessel start as an ally.Second the Finale is much harder than chapter 28x,as you have to quickly kill the twins, who should both be capable of one rounding some of your crew and will kill someone should they get to focus on him.Surrounding them is much harder than surrounding Duessel, who tend to get slowly chiped to death.Eirika is especially dangerous with her 30 speed.

Though I agree that if we take into account the precedent maps,Duessel appear much more like a boss with his chapter 28 than the twins with “World ends”.Killing off the twins almost seem like a bonus battle,or a part of the epilogue.Meanwhile Duessel’s death result in Lyon finally realising the goal of the war.

Any interest in letting Vesly make Dark Stone into a self randomizer? It’s a pretty neat way to replay cool hacks so I figured I’d ask around about some of the games that I really enjoyed. If not, that’s cool too so don’t feel like you have to say yes just because I’m asking.

Greetings everyone, while playing the game i may have skipped my readings and i may have wasted a master seal on a recruit character, i have already saved so i can’t go back.

  1. Will the unit still be able to promote again through a master seal?
  2. I am on lunatic, playing without a master seal Is still a manageable situation or am i cooked?

Thanks to any that will answer.

(Great game btw)

Well, I wouldn’t mind, if Vesly feels like doing that, he can go ahead.

Just finished playing through this hack, after about a total of 40 hours of playtime. Even before my playthrough was done, I have already recommended it to 3 of my friends, 1 of which has picked it up himself!

This might be in the running for my new favorite Fire Emblem title.

I love the writing, how there’s so many somber triumphs; glories that are only won temporarily, knowing the whole time that you’re on the wrong side. Yet, at the same time, there was a lot of fun moments too! Many of the supports and houses made me laugh a lot. What surprised me the most had to be the more “wholesome” writing, with these characters we’re used to seeing as the bad, evil guys becoming legitimate friends (or more–I love what you did with Nate & Deni.)

The gameplay was also excellent! I completed the game on Normal difficulty–I tried Difficult at first, but got stuck on 5x, and decided it was better for me to try that on a repeat playthrough. Although some parts frustrated me, I overwhelmingly felt like everything was fair; if I got someone killed, that was my fault, rather than unfair design. Thank you for removing fog of war. Thank you so much.

Personally, something that also really appealed to me was the large cast size. I recruited almost everyone (missed Boudica and Rennac from me being a moron), but despite that I felt like I had a lot of great “personal” options, so to speak. In other words, I didn’t really think, “oh, well, I have this unit, so why would I even bother with this other unit?” I hope in repeat playthroughs to try out new units that I passed over–and I think, with such a huge cast size, this hack would be particularly fun to do an Ironman in!

At this point, all that I have yet to experience is the postgame dungeon. Those sorts of things don’t usually appeal to me much in Fire Emblems, but I figure I will probably try it out! I just wanted to get this post in while I still had so many thoughts rattling around in my brain.

I do have a question for you, regarding the ending of the game: I noticed that Fomortiis’s character ending just left off as “Who knows…”, but Lyon’s was something like, “That’s a story for another time.” Do you have any plans to make a sequel?

With all that said: thank you for making such an amazing hack! I am definitely going to check out some of your other works soon, and if I enjoy them even half as much as Dark Stone, then I expect to have a great time!

Thank you so much for your kind words! Real glad you enjoyed my thing so much.

Regarding your question, no, I don’t plan on making a sequel to this. My next project is well underway, but it’s a fully custom hack that has nothing to do with Magvel or any other vanilla universes at all. I just wanted to leave the ending somewhat open, so that you the player could decide if there is hope for the future or if the bad guys truly won in the end. That way everyone’s happy! I would’ve employed the “that’s a story for another time” wording in both ending cards, but I ran out of space.

Hope you enjoy the postgame as well if you go for it. It’s kind of a mess, I didn’t put as much thought into it and it’s buggy. It was mostly just a little thing I did at the end so I could write a few dumb jokes.

I just finished playing the hack and this is honestly an amazing campaign. The writing has been top from beginning to end; it’s a huge task to write characters from bosses with like 3 lines of dialogue, but it is even more impressive how, for me, the established characters like Duessel, Selena, Lion etc felt… Like themselves.

It truly felt like a legit, real Fire Emblem- Story, characters, map design, just a ton of fun. I’m impressed by the newcommers like Tiffani or Melina (Who ended up being my two most powerful characters)

And giving you access to EVERYTHING after you finished the game is a really nice touch.

We were planning to play a Fire Emblem inspired roleplay campaign in a few months with friends, and i needed a setup for it. I loved Dark Stone so much that i’ll be putting our setting after the end of Dark Stone’s story, i think it’s perfect. So really, thanks a lot for this creative and amazing game.

I overwhelmingly felt like everything was fair ; if I got someone killed, that was my fault, rather than unfair design.

SO TRUE. It felt challenging but extremely fair; everything felt like a puzzle. At some point i got in a very difficult position at Grado’s castle where i had to deal with Garcia, the thief leaving with the loots, archers behind the walls and a couple of other reinforcements… And with only half of my units too ! And i DID IT ! And it felt super rewarding, amazing stuff
