[FE8] Fire Emblem - The Twin Dragons PLAYTESTERS NEEDED

you’re not obligated to use these weapons. if you don’t want the game to be extra easy, just don’t use them?

The question isnt whether you are obligated or not to use said weapons but rather why you would have access to something like that.
Putting this in any game is not how you bypass a difficulty issue and should never be given to a player. This is purely a design matter.

Why shouldn’t you give it to players? I don’t see why providing the option to players who want to use it is a bad thing.

I’ve released revision 5:
I changed the pirate, fighter and brigand classes’s max stats, edited Binks’s and Gheb’s stats, and changed the berserker and warrior’s promotion stat gains.

As before I have the changes files, for the newest revision, for download to look at the changes before downloading the patch.

Also, this has been around since the first release but you can
go into the Guide menu command for information on how to use
the Sus/Bck command if you don’t know how to use it.

In the same fashion that pokemon doesnt give you a lvl 100 mewtwo in your pc or any jrpg give you endgame equipment at the start because you dont play a game anymore.

Revision 6 has been released. Here are the changes:

Ewan now joins at LV 7 in CH12 A and B.

Changed final chapter Lyon’s stats.

The Naglfar’s stats have been changed:
Mt-5.
Hit-10
Crit-5.
Stat boosts changed:
from Mag+13 Skl+10. to Mag+8 Skl+25

Talisman is now sellable.

A final chapter enemy no longer drops a Crimson Eye.

Changed the price of the Boots and the Body Ring.

but, again, you’re not forced to use them, so ignoring the op sword or pokemon in your inventory is the same as not having it at all, so what is the difference.

this isn’t true for everyone

And, again, this has nothing to do with the player. I already stated clearly enough that it is a design issue. You dont give your players something to break the game you created and this is worse when you are “balancing” a game already done. If you cannot understand why it makes a difference to add a thing like that in a game even if left in a dark corner, i feel i would just waste my time explaining it to you.

Besides the obvious fact that no one can consider this an “Easy Mode” of any sort nor justify such an addition in a strategy game.

Sure they can. If it makes the game more fun, that’s all the justification you need.

Since I have beaten the entire game on Difficult mode in Ephraim’s Route I have put the saves I used in the Revision download,

they’re for VBA but they could be used with other emulators.

Also if you ever need to farm EXP I highly recommend using the easy mode weapons that are purchasable from the preparation screen armory.

A few other goals I had for this hack are:

  1. Make sure farming is either much faster or not needed.
  2. Make crappy units a LOT better like Marisa and Amelia.
  3. Make the difficulty selections have a big difference between them.

I would say the last option is the one that may have some issues because FE8 doesn’t allow bosses’s stats to decrease with the Normal and Novice mode penalties oddly, FEFates doesn’t have that issue.

Revision 8 has been released, here are the changes:

  1. Changed the max skill of the Cleric to 7.

  2. Removed the copyright on the title screen.

I’m gonna try it and give you some feedback.

Edit: Eirika apparently dies to anything in one hit in difficult mode while Seth still kills everything easily. I’d recommend lowering Seth’s stats so the player can feed Eirika some kills in the Prologue and Chapter 1.

Edit 2: I think the issue is that you nerfed her too much. Eirika was already frail to begin with, and the Swift Rapier’s bonus speed is not enough to compensate for this. Tried normal mode and she can still die too easily in Chapter 1.

Played on normal mode and Eirika dies with any hit at chapter 1, I think you should raise her stats so she could at least survive one encounter, I dont think it’d fun having to babysit the main char at the start of the game.

Thanks for the feedback.

I intentionally made Eirika incredibly weak to:

  1. Symbolize her journey from not having any combat experience, and being a crappy fighter at the beginning of her journey to develop into an incredibly strong fighter and one of your best units.
Something that shouldn’t be done with the other GBA lords IMO.

  2. To prevent players from making her too OP at the beginning.

She is the type of Lord that will require babying to be good but to compensate she has some of the best growth rates in the game.

Also if you are fighting Fighters with Eirika it’s not going to work until she is strong enough to survive a single hit because fighters have high Str, axes have high Mt, and she has low HP and Def and low of every stat so she isn’t going to do well.

I would recommend killing the fighters with Seth and leaving the Soldiers to Eirika and/or getting Franz and Gilliam to help in chapter 1 and formulating a strategy using them.

It isn’t fun but IMO Eirika isn’t a combat ready unit and that’s why I made her incredibly weak like Leif.

I’m glad you two are actually mentioning how difficult it is to keep Eirika alive because that was my intention.

Maybe you can mention some strategies to keep her alive early on?

Like supports, weakening an enemy and/or picking an enemy she can deal with (like soldiers instead of fighters).

Yeah it makes a lot of sense and it adds realism, I simply lost and thought the hack was too hard before trying anything else. I’ll give it another try, thanks.

Also if anyone is pressed for time and just wants to skip ahead to play certain chapters on Difficult mode they can use the saves I already made that are in the download.

Hello everyone!

I have released another revision:

I decided to change the colors of three of the four color
options in the options menu and change the colors for the
battle screen and the battle preview.

Battle Screen Color Changes
FETTD - Battle Preview
FETTD - Blue Menu3
FETTD - Green Menu2
FETTD - Red Menu
FETTD - Red Menu2
FETTD - Blue Menu
FETTD - Blue Menu2
FETTD - Green Menu
FETTD - Green Menu3
FETTD - Red Menu3
FETTD - Blue Menu4

I added +5% HP growth for Joshua.

Based off of the feedback I received about Eirika being one shotted:

I added a 10+Luck bonus to Eirika’s Swift Rapier so that she will have a higher chance of dodging,
Swift Rapier Lck+10

I changed the talisman you can get at Chapter 1 to an
angelic robe so that you can use it for more
than just magic attacks and can use it to buff Eirika, and I added an Angelic Robe to Ch3 so that you can buff Eirika or another character.

As before, my saves are included in the download.

I hope you enjoy this Revision and have a great day!
