THWD Discord

The hack will include:

  • 15 Chapters
  • Three converging groups of “heroes
  • Skills (courtesy of Circles et al.)
  • Daggers (thieves only, independent of the weapon triangle)
  • Other weapons that change things up (+more)
    • Magic Missile (Anima Tome, deals physical damage)
    • Nerd Slayer (Axe, effective Vs. casters)
    • And many more!
  • A lot of F-Bombs (maybe)
  • A comical, non-serious tone
  • Practically zero character development
  • …and more!

Things That Are Done:

  • Maps 24/15 (Some are just for cutscenes)
  • Playable chapters: 9/15
  • Playable units 20/20 (19 of which have their portraits done)
  • Class tweaks
  • a bunch of weapon additions and changes (including daggers, everyone’s favourite!)
  • 1.5x exp
  • Boat load of custom music

Known Issues:

  • None (I hope)

The most obvious comment I have to make about the maps is that paths are supposed to be broken up, not straight and continuous.

(example from a random map I took)

there are some others thing to point out, but I’m not sure how to word them, so I’d rather leave it to more competent people than myself to do the explaining than me.

I’d take a shot at editing the maps myself, but I’m not sure you’d allow me.

Other notable changes thus far include:

Classes:

  • Heavy Cavalier added (Axes, Lances)
  • Knights, Generals, Troubadours, and Valkyries all get +1 move
  • Valkyrie: removed Light, added Anima
  • Sages: removed Light, (maybe add Daggers)
  • All Sword classes gain Athos Lock
  • All Dagger classes gain Lyn Lock
  • As of now, all playable classes have 1 promotion path (makes it easier for skill distribution)

EDIT

  • Pirates / Berzerker: movement over water cost set to 1 (they can swim real good)
  • Added Promotion Class Adventurer (Bows, Staves)
  • Wyvern Knights: added Axes
  • General / Great Knight: Removed Swords
  • Added Base Class Hexer (Swords, Staves)
  • Promotes to Witcher (Swords, Staves). (It’s an insert for a friend)

Weapon Changes:

  • All Swords gain Athos Lock
  • All Daggers gain Lyn Lock
  • Bows (general) no longer effective Vs. Wyvern classes
  • Longbow: B Rank, 8 uses, 3-10 range, 10 mt, 65 hit, 20 wt, 0 cr (can be countered)

Weapons Added:

  • Nerd Slayer: Axe, C Rank, 1 range, 10 uses, 12 mt, 60 hit, 11 wt, 0 cr, effective Vs. casting classes

  • Daggers:

  • Iron Dagger: E Rank, 1-2 range 30 uses, 3 mt, 80 hit, 3 wt, 0 cr

  • Steel Dagger: D Rank, 1-2 range, 25 uses, 5 mt, 75 hit, 7 wt, 0 cr

  • Silver Dagger: A Rank, 1-2 range, 20 uses, 8 mt, 70 hit, 6 wt, 0 cr

  • Shiv: D Rank, 1 range, 10 uses, 0 mt, 60 hit, 1 wt, 0 cr, Ignores defense

  • Silencer: C Rank, 1 range, 18 uses, 5 mt, 80 hit, 4 wt, 0 cr, Effective Vs. Casting classes

  • Hail Mary: B Rank, 3-10 range, 5 uses, 8 mt, 80 hit, 20 wt, 5 cr

  • Showstopper: A Rank, 1 range, 8 uses, 7 mt, 70 hit, 5 wt, 25 cr, Brave Effect

Magic Changes:

  • Fire Magic effective Vs. Horse Mounts
  • Lightning Magic effective Vs. Wyvern classes and Dragons’
  • Light Magic effective Vs. Undead
  • 3-10 range magic can now be countered

  • Light:

It’s by no means perfect, but it’s a start. Here’s a gif of the first Start Event:

Started doing event stuff, the first three chapters are playable! (not balanced, but playable).

It’s more of a demo than anything, and it’s set so Ch3 doesn’t actually end. Also:

  • The intro cutscene hasn’t been changed yet
  • Practically zero balancing has been done in terms of enemy stats

If anyone is interested I’d be open to starting a discord channel; I’m always open to constructive criticism and whatnot.

On top of that I am looking for:

  • ideas for chapter bosses; so if you want a self inserted enemy character it might just happen (with some [TBD] guidelines). :smiley:
  • Playtesters (eventually). Mostly for non-technical stuff, since it’s being created with FEBuilder there shouldn’t be a lot of bugs.

Edit

I have been using sprites n stuff created by other members (via the Animation Repository); and I have been keeping track. They will be credited!

Don’t forget that there are a ton of free to use mugs in my repo. You can replace the vanilla characters with standins until you get someone better. Less jarring that way.

EDIT: Posting raw rom files is a no-go on the forums and will
likely be taken down by the mods, I recommend you post
a patch instead. FeBuilder can easily create UPS patches.

@A_Reliable_Chair you need to make a .ups patch zip the file then add it to the 1st post. You keep linking the ROM which is not how you are suppose to put out your hack.

I recorded this tonight (Vid up Next Monday), and I had so much fun. I wish I would’ve recorded this while up there.
I love when Hacks break the idea of having to make a serious story.
