[FE8] Fire Emblem: Fractured Powers (BETA) (19 chapters out now!) (5/26 update!)

Hey all, Clover here! I made a rom hack! Er, well, I’m making it. Currently it has 19 chapters finished, I plan to make it roughly 28 chapters long.

Fractured powers is a hack with a difficulty similar to vanilla fe6, so it’s beginner friendly, but not so simple as to make it dull. The hack will eventually feature 4 full acts, the first two having their own cast. Both act 1,2 and 3 are now finished! Currently working on 4!

Plot!

The first act takes place in a country named Tachibana, which is currently fractured into several warlord clans after the Emperor had disappeared. It follows the story of Hashiba Ashikaga, a young heir who’s father was killed and clan absorbed by the much larger Fukushima clan. Now that he has nowhere to go, the heir to the Fukushima, Matsu, took Hashiba in. The ex-noble now must accept being a pawn in a clan that he despises, doing a number of their dirty work. However, the song of rebellion rings in his heart, along with his closest allies Yoshiteru and Kanbei. How he will strike back against the Fukushima is up for you to find out…

Meanwhile, Eliz, a mercenary in a kingdom by the name of Deswall has just suffered a horrific, traumatic experience. She is left for dead, but nursed back to health by a common villager named Rose. Eliz wishes to rebuild her mercenary group while gaining quite the funds in the process, though, will her past haunt her and cause her to flee? Or will she prevail over such odds?

[KNOWN ISSUES]

  • Some visual bugs during a few chapters I still gotta fix
  • The chapter 2-3 talk with Mutt and Martine has a weird visual bug at the end. No idea what causes this or how to fix it but since it just looks weird and functions normally I’ll look into it later
  • Febuilder had an update a whiiiile back so I have to go back and fix a bunch of events from fading to black and back twice
  • There’s a LOT of placeholder portraits for player units, anyone who doesn’t have a palette just means they don’t have a real portrait yet
  • I’m gonna redo chapters 2-2 and 2-3 eventually, I feel like they lack quality that especially maps in act 3 have in my opinion
  • When Eliz’s team rejoins in 3-P, if you end all of Hashiba’s units’ turns before anyone who joined with Eliz, it ends player phase for some reason. I’ll try and fix it, but for now, just be careful with it!
  • A few spelling errors and formatting errors for some things. I’ll get around to it I’m just forgetful lol
  • Onangwatgo’s name is REALLY long and messes up in the prep menu. I’ll see if I can fix it but I already made the name narrow text so we shall see. I’d hate to have to rename him
  • I plan to use the Guide as a way for exposition for characters and lore in game without shoving it down players throats, but its extremely half baked and poorly formatted right now. Still, feel free to take a gander!

  • 4 whole new chapters! I’m really proud of these ones so I hope you enjoy!

  • More supports have been written! So far, the complete ones are Kagekatsu!Junko, Hashiba!Kanbei, Hashiba!Yoshiteru, Obu!Ginchiyo, Obu!Hajime, Naito!Obu, Naotora!Oshi, Nene!Oshi, Gracidea!Martine, Goemon!Hina, Miyuki!Itagaki, and Jun’ichi!Ginchiyo. I’ll be rewriting Kagekatsu!Terumoto and Junko!Ryota sometime, I feel like the writing is a bit poor and bland.
  • Both of the bosses in 2-2 are now capturable! You can only capture one at a time, though, so make sure you pick the one you want!
  • I gave up and added preps to act 2

Almost done this hack now! I’ve got 8 more chapters planned, plus probably a gaiden or two once the game is fully released, along with an ACTUAL hard mode. Thanks to everyone who’s been interested it really means a lot, and I’m really happy to being this far in! Hope you guys enjoy it!

This hack is pretty cool (I playtested it earlier), I hope more people give it a try!

Terumoto and Yoshiteru sweep (as well as the cav girl I forgot her name aaaah, she had base speed the entire time too it was awesome)

Yessur, armor and cavalier classes now are locked to 1 weapon and have sword and axe subclasses, pirates have been replaced (I don’t have many boat maps planned and brigands still fit the role) with a new class called vanguard, which acts like an axe soldier. It also has a new promotion, the Sentinel, which is an axe/lance infantry class. Theres more changes and additions, but I’ll make a document for that in the near future!

Happy to hear you’re gonna try it! Can’t wait to hear watcha think! And interesting thread, I liked looking at it! Truthfully, the monoweapon cavaliers are just a personal like of mine, even if theres other, better ways to balance them, I just like seperating the class, gives it a bit more leeway if they all have different promo options as well :>

made a small update, wanted to make it more substantial then it is now, but life wants to take away my computer from me soon, so I wanted to make what I was working on public while I’ll be away from it heheheh

Been working on act 2! But unfortunately real life keeps making things difficult. Adulting sucks. Dont pay your taxes, kids. Once half the act is finished, ill update the rom! Until then, expect a few bug fixes when i get em, and i plan to have act 2 done by the end of september at the very least!

Really solid hack so far. I really enjoyed my playthrough. I found a few bugs:

  1. The prologue boss’s face would stretch forward then snap back to normal every couple of frames while he was talking. I wish I could have gotten a screenshot of it but it happened too fast for my reflexes.

  2. There are some small pixels glitching throughout the hack. Most notable when flipping through enemy soldiers’ profiles. At the top left the top row of pixels would turn orange for a few seconds when I flipped profiles.

  3. On the map where you fight Tatakage there is a chest to the south protected by an archer with the iron bow. The door isn’t flagged as a door, it’s been mistakenly labelled a wall meaning all I could do was glower at that chest for the entire map.

I played on Normal and I found that difficulty to be fine for my playstyle. The lack of antiturtle measures for most maps made it easy for me to capture as many enemy units as I wanted making money a non-issue. Music was very solid but I didn’t like the victory theme that played when there was only one enemy on the map but that’s just my personal taste. I don’t have too much to say on characters or story since it’s still pretty early and there’s a only a few supports implemented but I am interested in seeing where the story goes.

About the bugs, i do know which ones you’re talking about, and i have actually fixed them while working on act 2! Just haven’t released anything yet! Thanks for pointing em out tho!
