Hello, please I need help. I was trying to, as always in any FE game hack or base game, recruit everyone/save everyone, but Im having an issue with recruiting Ramond :frowning: If I choose to recuit him, for some reason the game just does not want to work when the scene cuts to what I guess it is supposed to be the save screen, or whatever comes after Roxelanna and Chasimir finish speaking, the game just goes black and does not work anymore, no matter if I restart or do anything else. However, if I do not choose to recruit him, then…for some reason it works fine. I dont get it, please help. I was liking the game so far, it has been challenging for me but I like it so far, I dont wanna stop playing because of a random bug that I havent seen anyone have yet :frowning: Please help.

A strange error, and I can’t see why that would be the case. Troubleshooting would be:

  1. If you aren’t using MGBA as your emulator, switch to MGBA.
  2. If you’re skipping to reach the scene, stop skipping.
  3. If you aren’t skipping after the scene, start skipping.

Hopefully that resolves it.

Hi, thanks, it resolved itself by…cheer brute force of me doing some steps. Oh and yes I was using mGBA, it’s the only one I use.

So a couple of points about this weird error:

  1. As mentioned, choosing ‘Yes’ and then letting the scenes play out without skipping would lead to the black screen at the end.
  2. Choosing ‘No’ and not skipping would still lead to black screen.
  3. Choosing either of those and skipping would also lead to black screen.
  4. The solution was for me to save state right before the ‘Map Cleared’ message appeared, then let the first scene play out, choose ‘Yes’, let it play out until the blackscreen appeared. Then, restart the game, not load a save state but choose to Resume the game which would start the game right before ‘Map Cleared’. Then, skip the scene, choose ‘Yes’ and immediately skip the scene again. That worked out and led me to the Save Progress screen at the end of the chapter.
  5. A step missed or done differently would lead to black screen at the end. The issue was that I was not restarting and choosing to Resume, instead I restarting my savestates over and over when it went black.

That was a painful one but Im glad it just…fixed itself by me brute forcing a chain of steps haha. Thank you either way. Hopefully this doesnt happen to anyone, and if it does, well, try my unusual steps.

So what’s the ticking object. at first i thought it is a mine but i cant use it like one.?

It sits in your inventory looking pretty.

Unless…

Sure hope it won’t explode and perma dead the holder.

Alright. Game done! Gotta say, I loved this game. Maybe I’m just too inexperienced in analyzing and combat strategies, but this one was rather challenging for me with so many mini bosses but that also made it fun!

Is there a sequel to this game? Because the only negative critique I have is that I felt that ending a little incomplete and rushed. What the heck happened at the end there??!! That cliffhanger was brutal, I wanted to see what happened inside the castle! (Gonna try not to spoil anything so that’s that)

Favorite character…ESTRELLE! Because that theme! Holy shit! When I tell you, that first encounter she appeared and her theme started, I was dancing my ass off! Where is that theme from?! Did you make it or is it from another game adapted into this format? You must tell me! The way I will make it my ringtone! Idc!

Congratulations on your victory, and thank you for your thoughts! The intent with the ending is mostly to be left to the player’s imagination, with the result known and the method, well, defying the GBAFE engine’s ability to bring to life. But I’d probably have written it slightly differently, if I did it over again.

There will be a sequel, set 23 years in the future. Development diary is here with updates on the 21st of every month.

As for Estrelle’s theme, here you go. Tracks are kept on the website, with the only fully original track across DoW/Do5/HC being Rena’s theme in Do5 (made by AReliableChair).

Are there missable units?

Depends on what you mean by missable? There are some units you have to go out of your way to recruit, but they’re all pretty easy to get as I recall.

THANK YOU! Even the original is so good too!

Omg thank you so much! Oh it’s Homecoming. I saw the page yesterday very late so I didnt read that it was the sequel but I was considering playing so, now I definitely will play it!

No, it’s not Homecoming. Homecoming is set in a different world as far as we know

Oh my bad sorry. Still gonna go ahead and play it I suppose. Will be looking forward to that other one too.

Yes, definitely play Homecoming; it’s absolutely fantastic. It is entirely the fault of Parr and Lumi that I had to expand my top 3 FE romhacks to a top 5, or else it would just be Homecoming, Drums of War, and Dream of Five, and that would have left no room for The Hag in White or Cerulean Crescent.

P.S. The only reason The Morrow’s Golden Country isn’t in my top 5 is because I didn’t originally finish it when I played it, and then I decided to wait for the upcoming visual update to play again.

I have something to say- brave, and perhaps not often repeated. Evander is very handsome. I might even be persuaded to say DILF. Desperately wish I could give him Juna Fruit or something. Level 10 promoted hurts!

I just finished this hack and… wow. The quality was insane! I haven’t played too many other hacks but even compared to official FEs this game is stellar.

Writing

I’m mostly just echoing what everybody else has said, but the writing is really strong! The story has great flow and it never feels like we’re fighting battles just to reach a chapter quota. Even maps that are less pertinent to the overall narrative still do a great job of fleshing out the world and characters.

The structure of the first half really makes the party feel like disposable pawns before eventually becoming a strong independent force in its own right in the latter half. Every scene between Roxelana and the other major players in the story feels tense, like one slip up could spell doom for the company. It’s pretty rare in FE to feel like there are any kind of political events happening in the story since countries are generally clearly split between being allied or enemy nations, so having these unlikely alliances and eventual betrayals feels more engaging than what I’m used to seeing.

The characters were also great both in supports and the small moments they have as they pop up throughout the main story beyond their joining maps. What really gets me though is all of the little things you did to flesh out the characters, like the battle quotes sprinkled here and there. I remember randomly having Vivica attack Elisenda and getting dialogue, thought that was cool.

Gameplay

This game hits the sweet spot of high stakes gameplay without feeling too overwhelming. It definitely helps the narrative to feel so underpowered compared to the enemy, but still managing to outmaneuver them somehow. The diversity of mission objectives is also refreshing, especially in Endgame-1 where the bosses you spare determines the units you’ll fight in the next map. I felt like I cheesed a lot of the lategame challenges just because my units had snowballed to a point where they could easily deal with the threats as they came up, but that’s pretty par for the course for the series. Even still endgame was fun to play and the payoff for the whole story was good, if a little fast.

The main gimmick of ransom units was really cool! It helps that we see these units in combat before having the opportunity to recruit them so it’s not just a blind guess of their utility. Not all units seemed to be created equal, but even the more redundant units felt like they could find a spot on the team if somebody else died. I did most of my recruitments near the start of the game which made money tight early on, but still made good use of some of the later units to round out the team.

The Sidequest

This is a weird little thing I want to bring up but the quest to get the Strange Brew was kind of a highlight for me? I got nearly every item naturally by exploring and visiting every area, but somehow missed the ticking object. Weirdly I visited the leftmost vendor in chapter 3, but not the armory… I ended up just cheating the item into my inventory when I got to the end of Act 3 after realizing I had missed it early on.

In any case, a game-long sidequest like this is something I’d love to see more of. The reward itself is nothing to write home about, it mostly just gives an opportunity for an already strong unit to gain a few more points in some stats they haven’t quite capped yet. But the journey of searching these different maps and realizing “Oh, this is one of the things I need” is a pretty great feeling. I also dug around in the events and saw an opportunity at the end of Act 3 to get one of two unique swords if you consistently spared/ransomed units at the end of maps. If I ever go through another playthrough of this game I’ll probably do a full recruitment run, maybe even as an Ironman just to see how the lack of funds will affect my planning.

My current playthrough got stalled on Chapter 18. It’s pretty difficult!

I wanted to go back through the game and ask what other posters feel the best boss units are. I feel I recruited way too many in my first playthrough. As much as I enjoyed recruiting them all, there’s some of them I could have done without, looking back. Deadeye in particular is very cool, but he just warmed the bench and never saw use.

So yeah, what bosses do you guys like?
