[FE8] Fire Emblem: Curse of Lagdou (24 Ch.) [COMPLETE] v1.0.6

By Chapter 3, do you mean Taylor Manor? If so, she rejoins on turn 2.

Heyo! Loving the hack so far, I have a question cuz sometimes I’m dumb and wanna make sure I’m not doing anything wrong
There is no support cap correct? I just wanted to make sure cuz I’m currently on ch.7 and I see Isabelle has her support limit reached and I really wanna get her A support with Estelle…
So I just wanted to ask here and thank you for making this hack, it’s really good!

Hi! Sorry for the late reply. Is Jeanne unable to get the A support with Estelle? I think the supports might turn green as if they’re maxed, but you should still be able to get as many As as you want.

Finished after having spent about 5 days, thanks for making it, really enjoyed.

Played blind, Difficult, but not Ironman. Random growths.

General feedback

Pros:

  • Crit Changes!
  • Nice to have alt-fe8 writing. Mix of new and old.
  • Good custom art. Sprites, CGs
  • Weapon differences are significant compared to vanilla.
  • 5 mov armor, 6 general and dancer.
  • Fast supports in big aoe
  • Cool summons. Lots of potential Summoners!
  • Casual-ish mode existing
  • Yellow Durability weapons
  • When some units left for story reasons, items got sent to convoy
  • Impactful held items
  • Quicksave
  • Lot of Range 3 stuff. Also range 2 swords are nice
  • Funny secret meme unit for playing a second time.
  • T2 Staffers are less common
  • Big cast, several solid lategame joins too. Ironman friendly.
  • Master Seal promos for all* (Other than one case which units still comes with promo item). Even lords.
  • Split promos for most of cast
  • Deliver supplies map was very cool mechanically.
  • 31 “carry capacity” of mounts instead of vanilla 20 or 25.
  • No Fog of War *Again an exception but player is responsible for it.
  • Canto thieves

Neutral:

  • No stat Boosters
  • Turn count
  • At 251 battles, Isabelle saw the most combat
  • Tethys was my only unit to reach 20 before final map. Isabelle joined her there.
  • As often happens, beat game with lots of stuff “saved for later just in case”. Such as a 1-4 sword. Or Bolting, Brave 1-1 Anima.
  • Final Team
  • Healing on Nidhogg felt overkill.

Cons:

  • Force-deployed units can’t swap position
  • Joshua Prf really should be 100% imo. Its weak enough to not justify once in a while failing.
  • Ross’s Crit feels too-random too. Would much rather it was something like flat 15. Or even 10. Or something like *1.5 + 5-10.
  • Dark Contract boost isn’t good enough to make up downside imo.
  • Blaze ring lowering def/res felt too-harsh for what it gave in turn.
  • 100 Convoy limit.
  • Some weapons I didn’t want to use (prfs) weren’t sellable.
  • Most infantry have shove. But not all. Would be better global skill imo.
  • Other than Someone’s Prf, along with them and another unit’s +1 tome range, all player’s Dark seems to be 1-1 unless I missed something. Even just a generic 2-2 would’ve been nice.
  • Hammerne showed up too late, imo.
  • Eggs only give 1 xp.
  • When a certain map spawned “Super dragons” Cough 80~ hp, 40 atk and 80 crit cough felt pretty out-of-nowhere. Wish there was proper warning. Or more spaced out/fewer at once even if same total. Most of my units couldn’t survive combat with one without lord aoe, or Hoplon player may well have missed.
  • Some of the timed maps felt a little too tight in timing. Especially with greens involved.
  • Kind of felt like a lack of things to Steal.
Oddities and/or Bugs
  • Ch1, if I move a unit to where they spawn, overlap with Cutthroat
  • Ch4 wasn’t able to Shove Natasha after she joined, until Joshua did. But then he, and Colm weren’t shove-able for the map.
  • Flanked foes also get +20 crit per on player
  • Was a few cases of talks not giving anything tangible despite that being “promised” For example, Neimi/Colm ch4. Or talk with boss in same map.
  • Moulder’s Condition when using “more info” shows Healthy, even if he’s Immobile.
  • Ch6 Armorslayer drop seems unrealistic to get for player. Green unit will kill the foe 99% of the time.
  • Holding Coxed shows it lowered Luk growth by 4. Giant Ring claims +1% def, +5% res
  • Units with a lot of hp (DK, Lyon, boss for ch13) are a little wonky interaction with mini hp bar. % displayed isn’t accurate. Also doesnt always display even if missing hp.
  • Noticed Ranger seems to get +20 crit vs Bael and Doog. Unless its Neimi-specific? Also, Bael seem to be Armored but no mention.
  • Ch15 something weird with Hero by SW boss. Seems to be getting +10 res invisibly on top of visible if he’s pulled down 1 tile, swaps to axe, and then keeps axe. Even if moving. Can clarify if video isn’t clear enough. Watch 2025-02-21 12-32-58 | Streamable
  • Ch15 I killed the final boss during EP. Map wouldn’t end until a unit finished turn. That is to say, spamming End Turn wouldn’t do anything. Had to manually Wait.
  • Ewan can’t Summon a Phantom when his is already on the field. The other 3 can.
  • Ch16 should be Seize or Route. As that ends map unlike some other route maps.
  • Had one case of Phantom taking priority over a normal unit despite Shade. Unclear of specifics. Maybe other target would take 0 damage.
  • Several enemy-only S-ranks (The ones which mention doubling WT) don’t mention in description stats they boost.
  • Pretty sure Bishop promotion preview doesn’t mention gaining Staff Savant.
  • After promotion, Ephraim gets a “Learned Supply” And Larachel “Learned Canto” (at least as Valkyrie) despite already having the skill. End result isn’t duplicates, just odd.
  • Sleep Staff description mentions being 1 turn, that is false.
  • Unmentioned but Moon-in-Water isn’t a generic S rank. No idea if its class-locked, sisters-locked or single-unit locked but my S sword swordmaster couldn’t use it.
  • Foe in final map drops money. Made me think there was another map.

Wrong count for Someone. I don’t know specifics but certainly wasnt that

Single question; Was there only 1 secret shop (also 1 secret tile elsewhere) or did I miss further?

Units. Rambly thoughts on cast.
  • Jeanne. Cool prf, along with great (effectively) res, and move. Kind of wish it didn’t result in -2 AS though.
  • Isabelle. Probably my favorite lord in a hack for a while. Awesome stats, prfs and skills.
  • Neimi. Felt like my MVP despite really lacking Str, moreso with Scarf. Still, worth. Thunderbow helps, as did Two-nock and Nidhogg. Galeforce go brr.
  • Joshua. Used for prf but in hindsight not sure was worth. I like the concept of it anyway. Wish it was 100% chance though. Don’t think it would’ve been too strong.
  • Someone. Flying, 1-2 unbrekable prf and extra range? Yes please.
  • Artur. Dazzle rocks. Also just 2-3 Light.
  • Eirika. Fairly late join but solid stats, great prf and skills
  • Innus. Bargain bot for the most part. Kind of wish he got increased xp gain the way Mryhh did. Prf is bonkers but also shows up late. Would’ve used it more if I knew Hammerne was around the corner
  • Moulder. All around fine stats. Def and con especially. Didn’t actually use personal skill much but still had use here and there.
  • Tethys. Dancer is dancer. Got both boots.
  • Maete. I love summoners. On top of that just good stats, especially def, and can even re-summon to help with move tech or just xp farming.
  • Ewan. Made into a Summoner. Awesome stats all around, and great prf.
  • Larachel. Paragon good. Just missing def but otherwise solid.
  • Myrrh. Great unit but wish she was t1. Lower caps yes but would hit them much quicker.
  • Ephraim. Worse Erika imo. Prf is nice but not enough by itself.
  • Soyo. Final unit to join. Moon-In-Water is awesome. Also Canto+
  • Zara. Better stats than my Soyo honestly plus steal/duelist blow but lacked S swords. Was my main thief after getting, benched Colm. Also good prf. Again, Canto+ is huge utility.
  • Tana. Nice prf, solid stats. Kept meaning to use but needed space for more important units.
  • Ross. Funny prf and skill. Superfast, high str and supringly high con. Frail however.
  • Franz. Great all around unit. As with Tana wanted to use more but tight roster slots.
  • Gerik. Didn’t use but seems like solid all around. Relevant if player is losing units.
  • Giliam. Lunge has some use. That aside, superb def/str/hp and even spd is supringly decent. For sure a great fontline option but didn’t use him more than a few maps.
  • Bo. I’d consider a worse Gilliam. Still, all around very useable. Also has utility promotion in Halb.
  • Marshe. Just wasn’t impressed at all by stats. Rune axe is nice loot at least.
  • Estelle. Decent growths for a jaigen, early staffer that gets surprising terrain crossing and +1 range at that. Used moderately at start, and then benched. Seems like viable throughout game even if falling off later. Really wished she had Shove.
  • Elle. First archer, 2-3 go brr. On top of +20 crit and range 2 and good stats, better than Neimi. Def Critical is neat anyway. Used moderately, swapped for the aforementioned Galeforcer though.
  • Frani. Main early Axe user. I love Wrath buff. Also gets Brave axe of sorts. Still, frail and is monoweapon even promoted. Benched.
  • Kyle. Was my promising cavalier until Franz showed up. Repostion and Wrath are great. Good def… but really slow.
  • Vanessa. Second peg. Perfectly fine unit. Swordpeg is neat, along with bows with one promo options. Tana gets Luna skill though and has better stats longterm.
  • Lute. PP unit. Can’t take much damage but dishes it out. Fine but didnt need.
  • Franciska. Looked solid. Only Rally skill im aware of. For sure would’ve been filler if I lost units.
  • Nilsbury. First peg, and strongest version of Armsworth I’ve ever seen. Still, worse stats than other options so benched when they showed up.
  • Colm. Thief is Thief. Canto nice though plus 1-4 sword.
  • Reverse of Kyle, kinda. Much better speed but in turn lacks the def, Wrath and Reposition. Overall less useful to me.
  • Natasha. Generic healer. Unremarkable.
  • Garcia. Pretty underwhelming stats, wasn’t a fan.
  • Amelia. Good filler unit if my roster was smaller. Cool prf. Solid stats.
  • Brynhild. More useful than Garcia to me but again not really that great of stats.
  • Marisa. Generic Myrm. Presumably canto+ via Assassian though.
  • Dozla. Sol is really cool! Shame he’s only unit with it. Good offensively but also not a top-tier unit by any means
  • Caolan. Useable stats, comes with awesome archer item and has canto+. Very solid filler.
  • Saleh. Second prepromote iirc. At the time was very handy. Skill too. Benched before long though. Stats seems useable throughout entire game.
  • Rennac. Not worth 5k imo unless lacking units. Canto+ nice but could use +1 mov I think.
  • Cormag. I didn’t use any Wyverns longterm, but imagine provoke lance useful. Also Focus really good. Very useable.
  • Seth. Used for join chapter. Solid filler, but had better options. My Franz was stronger.
  • Innes. Solid offensive filler.
  • Duessel. Too slow for my taste by the time he showed up. Nice def at least.
  • Puzon. Even a cool prf can’t make him a place on my team with those stats. Sells for 10k at least, and can be filler if needed.
  • Rosalie. Regret spending the 5k. Lifeforce nice at least, and prf good. Useable but not a fan. Wish prf wasn’t
    locked.
  • Selena. Late join, Filler.
  • Knoll. Late join, Filler. Worst of the 4 potential Summoners imo but by no means a bad unit.
  • Iidel. Better Knoll imo. Slower but much more durable and extra range.
  • Syrene. Only unit with Impale. Late join, good filler
  • Secret unit not-Frani. Funny meme, but doesn’t seem all that great truth be told. I’m ok with some fragility but they are just too much Glass to be Cannon.

Howdy. This romhack sure does have cute art. I came here after seeing it on a stream playthrough, and thinking it looked pretty neat. Now, minor question, just wondering if I’m someone who tends to think SS difficult is still pretty easy, will I be good to play lunatic. I’m a lil wary of the whole “Not fully tested thing” but I figure by now at least a few people have to have tried it. I’m not exactly a romhack veteran, but I’ve definitely played a heck of a lot of FE in my time.
Either way, looking forward to starting this soon I think, should be fun

CoL is def a weird hack to talk about in difficulty since it’s mostly about how you grasp / handle the new mechanics that the game is designed around.

If you like struggling a bit against games you should be fine. Its def not gonna force you to eat dirt losing constantly.

If I had to force a comparison to vanilla FE it’s probably close to like Hector Hard mode???

Sounds good to me, thanks for a thorough answer with some thought into it

finally done with my challenge run for this game (unpromoted units only)

final boss kill

unit stats

most of the run revolved around the following ‘core’ 11 units

jeanne - very consistent at outputting damage throughout the game, gets to be a funny res tank after chapter 8. hrunting is a very strong weapon lol

isabelle - very reliant on having good levelups, mine got pretty blessed (though i did rig a bit), her lategame PRFs are strong enough to let her nuke shit for free

elle - imo still one of the best units in the game. notebook+codex stacking lets her do +33 damage crits, she rams str/skill fast, though she needs to be speed-blessed for some lategame maps (mostly ch18, yes 16 speed is not fast enough lol)

frani - wrath bot v1.0, carries a lot earlygame. normally she falls off but since garcia is banned i have to keep using her. a lot of maps mostly boil down to how to set up wrath safely and then going to town with her on shit that needs major whacking.

natasha - staff bot.exe, with estelle banned by ruleset this makes her the default staffer. it doesn’t really make much difference between using either her or moulder, i was just lazy to switch up my staffer.

joshua - this guy is fucking unreal. TIL he has base access to the silver sword, he joins with ridiculous strength and speed, and has a funny galeforce sword on top of it because idfk?

neimi - honestly was kinda ass midgame but picked up a bit later because she was faster than elle and thus could orko deathgoyles. also galeforce lets her clean up more things per turn which gives her some extra utility

kyle - wrath bot 2, also functions as early tank and repo comes in clutch occasionally. just like frani, a lot of maps boil down to figuring out how to set up wrath safely on kyle, though he’s a bit more reliant on it. not as useful late on but still brought around as a mount and he can still OHKO some lategame stuff with wrath active.

someone - good meaty 1-3 range chip bot with some flying utility

ross - chaos critical is funny and keeps him relevant for most of the game. his low hp and bulk also helped in some AI manipulation memes

artur - most filler-ish of the ‘core’ group, but generally there as the utility guy: dazzle lets him chip for free, he has fun effective damage on archers and mages (not so useful for the latter tho) but is overall quite paper

lategame joiners, mostly the ‘Gotohs’

ephraim - siegmund.exe, he doesn’t need a horse to kill things

knoll - ogre’s hand + gleipnir or collapse makes for a very fun PP nuke bomb, can also do some nostanking in a pinch

several fillers

maete - i was planning to use her because i didn’t realise knoll joined unpromoted

zara - has thief utility but she is overall just not very good. has a lategame PRF that she can’t even use because her base weapon rank is dog and she doesn’t get into combat often enough to get it up.

fliers, all mostly interchangeable, cormag is the main flier of choice upon his recruitment but the pegs all got varying degrees of usage. shoutouts to tana being filler deploy on the last 2 maps just for her PRF’s skill lol

chapter thoughts

most of them are kinda easy

chapter 2 - i wasn’t sure if this was doable without orson but i played aggressively a bit with forde and found out that it wasn’t too bad. jeanne’s group was slightly rng though without healing from estelle

chapter 11 - i legitimately could not figure out how to avoid having dozla meatshield stuff. now that i think about it, i probably could’ve cooked something with rune axe abuse, but i was too tilted at the time

chapter 18 - this map is hell mostly because of the glen clones hitting so fucking hard. the sword ones have 22 AS which is why i said 16 speed wasn’t enough - i needed 17 so that i could avoid getting doubled by sword glens with the pinion. elle was also dog for that map since i didn’t rush S bows in time, otherwise i could have nostank’d with the nidhogg

.done. I’ll lead with, I had a really good time, and I’m glad I tried this one out. Gonna write my thoughts down.

Gameplay

Gameplay system changes were all pretty cool overall. I feel like a drop in the bucket saying “oh the crit thing is a really neat idea” but it really is though. What took me a lot longer to get used to was the weapon changes. At first I was concerned too many weapons with text would lead to exchanges seeming gimmicky but that faded over time, and eventually it stopped feeling like a “new gimmick” and just “How this weapon type works”. Even then, all the way to the end I’d be saying “oh yeah, that’s not 1-2 range anymore” occasionally.
Played on Lunatic, and it was fine. Most of the trouble I had was frontloaded as I adjusted to the systems but by the end I was cruising, as my units reached full power, and I was fully adjusted to the mechanics. Still not ever trivial but I never felt any time something bad happened it was anyones fault but my own. Transferring stat items into equipment I think is a great change, and blocks analysis paralysis over who I throw the boots on, etc.

Units

I endeavored to close to exclusively use the new units, for the novelty factor. I won’t screenshot every single one or anything but they were mostly fun to use. Brynhild felt like a huge liability by the end, basically only existing for their strong passive for other units to take advantage of but everyone else was largely able to do things I’d expect of them. Combinations of items and skills definitely made it possible to do some silly things. Elle stacking skill books to blow things away with crits that did +a billion damage, or garm with the ogre hand giving you a weapon with 50 odd might that boosts both defenses stood out as some of the more ludicrous combos I tried but it never got so out of hand I felt I couldn’t lose. In general, the units I didn’t use had enough like “Oh cool” factor at join that I could see myself replaying the game to try out a completely new set.

Story

I’m a sucker for a lot of what you went for here. It’s tricky to set out with a story in an existing universe, and characters people already have an attachment to, but for lack of a better word, I felt everyone “spoke” as themselves. I didn’t spend too much time with the returning characters, as I mentioned, so here’s where I’ll say that all the new characters, I really enjoyed. Both heartwarming and heartwrenching in equal measure, I got that good mix of getting to see the funny lil guys do funny lil things, and feel some real emotions, particularly into the third act where things get pretty heavy. I can see where people might feel the old characters get sidelined in favor of the new, but I’m here for what the new characters are selling so, I didn’t mind too much.

Now, in particular, I want to say this. I’m very happy Jeanne is a thing. I’ll keep it vague, but I’ve known quite a few people in similar situations, and in particular, he supports with her sister felt very real, very from the heart, and gave me a lot of warm fuzzy feelings, and flashbacks to some conversations I’ve had before. So, thank you for that

Couple bugs I found

The last chapter in part 2, when the boss is supposed to spawn, if a playable unit is blocking their square, they simply don’t show up. The conversation happens, and the 2 units that leave both leave as intended, but no unit spawns in their place. I assume, it’s coded in the same way as fort reinforcements and gets blocked, but I’m no code expert.

Also, this. At some point, my unit list just kinda, got borked. I think, it was after finding Puzon, but he’s enjoying his new career as a shaman. Rennac gone, ephraim is wearing axe as pants, Ewan promoted without my knowledge. All these units info is correct, but I never dared to field them and find out what happens.

Alright, that was gonna be short then I talked for a long time. Uh, thanks for making this. Good job

Just finished game with some initial thoughts:
This crit system feels like I’m constantly setting up for triangle attacks. Based design principle honestly, thought it makes some ranged units feel weak without set-up.

Game generally feels easy, minus the fact that most of your cast are a bunch of squishes.

The relationship in two scenes (SPOILERS)

Dunno if this is intended, but apparently visiting the house with the wrong unit in ch.15 permanently locks it? Slightly titling to replay that entire chapter off of that.

Also I think some of the base cast paired endings are missing? I got Artur + Lute A support, but no paired ending for them. Slightly convinced that some OG supports are really slow or just don’t grow at all, spent 3 chapters trying to get Forde + Vanessa C to no avail. Might be bias on my part though, because the OC cast has standard/really fast supports.

Will leave formal review for later, but great game.

Bug report: Yeah, some paired endings are definitely bugged. Looked them up in FE builder, Jeanne and Franni paired ending didn’t happen in my playthrough despite A support (first A support Jeanne got was with her sister, so that might have been why it defaulted to neutral? Currently unsure). I can provide my .sav file for debugging if needed?

That’d be great! I’ll add that to the list of bugs to fix in the next patch.

is there a reason why innes is written as innus and his portrait is a little different?

Because the guy you recruit is not Innes. Isabelle calls him out in the end chapter cutscene. You recruit the real Innes later

yeah learned that after the fact
still pretty funny.

edit so i dont double post
wheres the secret shop so i dont miss out
