Im so excited haha. Because im curious about there class hehe.
CoL Act 2 is HERE, BABY!!!!! YEAH!!!!!
(Download link is in the OP)
The hack should be fully playable up to Ch. 17 without major issues, but please report any bugs you find so I can hotfix them. Enjoy, and get hyped for Act 3!
Just dropped a new version in which I fixed a bug that was causing Nilsbury to not properly rejoin in Ch. 12 and Ephraim rejoining instead. Sorry about that!
Small bug report:
In Ch. 1, the cursor bugs out and goes out of the map. The reason for that i think is because Ephraim is in the unit list and the game tries to somehow go to him?
Thankfully not a game breaking bug as you can L/R to go to the next unit and continue - It does however lead to Auto end turn not working in that chapter.
To add some positivity to the post - I really like what little i played/saw, especially what you did with weapons and crits! Critically acclaimed as you said! Definitely adds flavour and uniqueness to the hack
Thank you! Just fixed that; will drop a new hotfix patch soon.
Great idea for the Crit’ system! I would love to see that adopted in hacks more often
Nice to see that this has evolved from a rebalance. Most likely will check it out after c16 is ready and fully polished.
Totally not because Isabelle looks pretty. Yep, not at all.
Good to hear! Could you tell me what issues there are with Ch. 16? I’ve had two bugs reported with it so far (the chapter ending on the boss’s death instead of the seize point, and the lords’ starting positions being accidentally swapped). Is there anything else you know of that I should fix for the next patch?
Not really, by “checking it out” I mean just starting the hack. I have been following development but haven’t actually played the hack yet.
Finished the first act, so wanted to get some thoughts out so far.
For gameplay, I love the crit system. It’s a cool idea and it makes positioning much more important, I love seeing innovations like this in romhacks. It has that satisfaction of getting a triangle attack in but far less restrictive.
The new weapon system threw me off at first, but I got used to it eventually. Having a wide variety of ranged weapons definitely works well with the new critical system so it’s easier to get crits in once an enemy is surrounded. “Isabellion” is cute. My only gripe with the weapons is Marshe’s Rune Axe feels really underwhelming, although its unique ability is a neat idea but I didn’t find myself using it.
I expected the new characters to completely sideline the original FE8 cast, but they still felt useful and distinct in their own ways which I appreciate. The cavs especially felt good to use still.
The art in this hack is fantastic, the CGs especially look extremely high quality and make me want to go and redo all of mine lmao. The portraits are really good, I especially like Estelle’s eyes. Also bonus points for all the glasses in the game.
Writing is the highlight of CoL for me so far and I didn’t expect to enjoy it so much honestly. The characters are enjoyable and I like how they’re added to Magvel. I really think it’s cool how the central conflict is still around FE8’s original story and that Isabelle and co feel like other people that just got caught up in something bigger than them. I especially like the focus on Carcino and the writing around it, the politics there in CoL feel “real” in how they remind me of the ancient Roman republic. Act 1 ends as this becomes a focus point so I’m looking forward to see how that plays out as I continue playing. I also just love the bits of dark fantasy that are sprinkled in throughout the story so far, the Birds Nest chapter being a favourite of mine.
Spoilers for Act 1
Hrunting is handled well and I also love its writing. It’s attitude of being too old to care about the conflict is cool and the whole “I will outlive you” dialogue goes hard. That CG in act 1’s climax where it kills its host surprised me in a great way that struck well, and I was not expecting Jeanne to pick up Hrunting afterward and it got me so hyped up. It’s hilarious that while complaining that Jeanne felt weak and you kept saying “Don’t worry she gets better” I expected her to get a promotion or training arc, not this lmao. I love it.
Maybe a lot of rambling praise rather than a thorough review, but I do love this hack so far. Good work dude.
Act 3 is officially written and playable all the way through to the end!
It still needs more clean-up and testing, but you can expect the nearly-[Complete] patch Fairly Soon™ now.
(Also, sneak peek at the chapter select menu, which will be unlocked using a password given at the end of the game)
加油 离完整不远了!
Seems interesting. I might give it a try sometime.
Axes give Resistance? That’s… a bit odd. Thematically, I wouldn’t associate such brutish weapons with resistance to magic.
The first question of the FAQ talks about Easy mode, but the original post itself doesn’t mention it. I assume the nomenclature was changed at some point (from Easy/Normal/Difficult to Normal/Diffcult/Lunatic or viceversa). I’d suggest making the two sections match to avoid confusion.
All this sounds interesting. Think I’m gonna have to check this out!
Oh yeah, sorry about that! The difficulty mode names will be changed in the final release, but I forgot that I hadn’t actually updated them yet in the current released version.
Axes giving Res is meant to make high-HP axe classes a soft counter to mages (think Blissey or Snorlax stopping special attackers in Pokemon). This hack has several tanky frontline mages in it, including the protagonist, so it helps rein in their offenses more towards killing high-Def and low-HP enemies. I’ve been debating whether to just incorporate the Res bonus into axe class base stats, though; thoughts on that are appreciated!
I see. Well, if the Res bonus is taken away from axes and incorporated into the base stats of classes specialized in axes (fighters, brigands, pirates), units with axes as a secondary weapon type won’t enjoy the increased resistance. You need to decide if you want everyone with an axe equipped to benefit or just the axe classes.
Yeah, exactly. I’m gonna have to do some testing and see which one feels better.
what if Isabelle had a low taper fade?
Update: Working on supports, polish, and some new features during FEE3. Since I didn’t have a trailer this year, I decided I’d drop a more complete release later so as not to get buried. I don’t have an exact date yet, but expect it sometime this month or early December!
Here’s some teaser screenshots in the meantime:
The new Kendrick album has redoubled my hacking power. I am reincarnated.
Pushing for an 11/27 release date!
