[FE7] Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade Graphical Overhaul [WIP] [HELP WANTED]

I’m not sure why you’d want to change any animations besides maybe sniper Rebecca, so she isn’t just recoloured Louise

Most likely.
Current order of operations is:
Portraits
Map Sprites
Item Icons
Tileset Palettes
Battle Animations

She’ll get updated for sure. I will be replacing other characters with character-specific animations.

Got it, I’ll wait for the definitive edition to release before playing, much appreciated for your portrait work, it’s gorgeous.

Thank you so so much for your feedback!
It’ll absolutely be a while before the patch is released. My current plan is to release a version when all my portraits are done, so people can play with those, and then release updated versions as I finish other elements (Item Icons, Map Sprites, and Battle Animations)

Looks great! Though, I think his hair is not quite brown, like you did it, but more black. Like his official art:

Noted! I’ll update that soon

Oh hey! Man you’ve done a lot of these, I need to look back here more often lol.

Re: Karel/Geitz: I really like the palette changes; Karel certainly looks better with the darker hair and Geitz is a minor tweak but it really looks much better! I’m not super certain why you’ve shrunk their ears, to my eye both had decent facial proprotions beforehand? If it’s to make them match stylistically with the rest of the batch then ignore me, as I mentioned I haven’t been keeping the closest eye on this thread lol.

With Geitz specifically, if you do decide to keep the smaller ear, you’ve now got a weirdly-square patch of dark pink pixels outlining the top of his ear. You might need to play around with that to make it look more “natural.”

All in all, though, these are looking pretty good

I think I agree with your opinions about the ears at second glance. I’ll update those tonight

Sounds good! Looking over some of the others:

Aion/Araphen: I believe standard lighting for GBA FE portraits is coming from above and in front, and maybe a little to the right? So that the near part of the face is highlighted, but the far side of the face is in shadow. For these two, I feel like the skin around their fore temples should maybe have less shadow (they’d be lit up by light coming from the top/front?) yet it looks like you’ve gone and increased the shadows there a bit instead? That said, their official portrait shading might be a stylistic choice to make them look somewhat “sinister,” and yours definitely amp that up so if that’s what you were going for it’s a success! I dig the colors too, esp the purple robes.

Legault: His eye placement feels so odd to me on his official portrait, yours is already miles better for trying to tweak that.

Hellene: I’m really enjoying the new blond hair pallettes you’ve got going, they’re so much nicer it’s insane! Her official portrait’s mouth placement has always bothered me, it feels like it’s too high or something. I tried editing it myself and haven’t found a solution yet that I like so this isn’t really a critique of your work, moreso just an observation with her portrait lol

That black hair looks slick, good job on the update and good eye on @Alice pointing that out

I made some bigger changes to her eyes to make her look less mean, but she also doesn’t have that determined feeling.

Sain:
Lyn definitely needed an update, because her original portrait was not accurate to her official art. I used her model from Smash Bros Ultimate as a reference for the collar, and I think it’s definitely better.

Really stellar work. There’s an additional texture added with these overhauls that gives the same “old school” or grounded feeling that Shadows of Valentia’s remake managed to capture so well.

Also, I’m particularly impresssed with the Lyn update. That could not have been easy.
