Archanea Monthly (September 2024 Vol.1)

Hey everybody, my name is Lily, I’m here, proud to present Archanea Monthly: the magazine that reports on all things related to Fire Emblem romhacking! I’ve been working with Anna here in the Emblem Nexus to hop to as many universes as possible and report on what we find! Anna said if this first issue sells well, she’ll even spare money for more coffee and a real bed!

We’ve been working the better part of a month to push this out, and talked with a lot of creators to present everything in this issue with interviews, translation clarifications, and asset permission/credits. If you think it’s cool, wanna see another one, or have your own ideas or suggestions for next time, leave a comment and speak your mind! You can also message me to let us know if you wanna have your own work featured, or if you want to write/put together something to go in next month’s issue, and I’ll pass the proposal on to Anna to approve. This first one is a bit armature-ish, but nothing starts perfect, right?

This September Issue, we were proud to get a ton of cool stuff for our first issue! Our main talking point is decidedly the hack Hetja’s Quest, and afterwards we’ll talk about some budding hacks, newly translated details about characters from The Nameless Heroes, some FEE3 anticipations, and a couple of cool people from our community! Go on and dive in, tell us what you think, and share with your friends!

Regarding those who want to help

If you ever want to contribute something to the magazine, I’ll gladly take help, but this is all purely volunteer work, and nobody is ever getting paid for any of this. Archanea Monthly is purely driven by a passion for the community and will always stay that way. That being said, there’s a couple things like page designers and article editors that I don’t really have a need for because I just prefer handling those things myself.

What volunteer work is available:

  • Writers (Doesn’t have to be monthly or one time)
  • Stock Artist

What volunteer work is NOT available:

  • Page Designers
  • Article Editors

If you do have any questions or proposals on something you wanna write, feel free to reach out to me! If you contact me as a writer, please at least have an idea on what you want to write, if not something to show for it already!

And of course, I won’t be offended if you approach me asking to have your hack in the magazine. I can’t promise any spots, but if I happen to have a slot open, you might have a chance!

FAQ

Q: “Will I still be able to read previous issues when new ones are posted?”
A: Yes! Whenever I post a new issue, I’ll take the previous post and put it in a small tab at the bottom to preserve the magazine, art/project links, and post!

Q: “Can I ask you to feature my own hack/project in the magazine?”
A: You can, but I wouldn’t be able to guarantee a spot. Frankly, a lot of it depends how much work I’ve already done, if I’ll have time to do it, and if I want to take time to edit all the page numbers if I am far in. The farther after a new release you ask, probably the less likely.

Really cool stuff. I wasn’t expecting 50 pages.

Thanks a lot !
I didn’t know it was going to be that long either, but it’s just what everything turned out to once I put down everything I wanted to XD
The one Krita file with all the pages was 188MB and takes a couple minutes to fully load lol

To say I’m impressed is a massive understatement. I can’t even imagine how much time and work was put into this! I loved it and was a really nice overview for the people (me) who aren’t active in all of the areas of this community but still want to experience what it has to offer

Thank you very much for featuring my project! It warms my pink fuzzy heart, and I’d love to see more of this magazine in the future, but don’t overwork yourself either ^^

It means a lot to hear that you loved it and even caught up on some news! Lots of hacks are made and pass under the radar without much fanfare, so I wanted a place to talk about both the popular ones and to put a spotlight on some of the others that might not even have demos yet! Or even hacks like FE9/10 RE they’re in desperate need of an English translation.

Means a lot that you loved it though and I hope you get time to read future issues when I make ‘em!

Man, this is something awesome. I’ve liked what you included here so far, like the interviews of the ones that made demakes of some FE games, and news and analysis of up and oncoming FE romhacks.

So far, great effort on this. Hope to see more of this magazine in the future!

Had a read through, and this is fantastic! Solid job for a first issue. It’s great to have a section dedicated to smaller, more inexperienced hackers, making projects. Haven’t even heard of Fort Pinewood, but after covering it, I’m now quite interested!

Thank you Anna and GultyKappa for your hard work.

And thank you for reading! Getting your hack out there is hard these days aside for maybe the once a year FEE3 event, so getting to put a spotlight on some promising ones that I’ve got a good feeling about is a pleasure!

I love how the magazine is setup, it looks like an old school retro game journal, it’s so cute and full of info!

Hehe thanks! I actually referenced scans of Nintendo Power for some sections when I felt lost about how to do layouts!

I have a deep respect for the effort that went into this. You truly have made something amazing here and as someone who grew up with magazines like this for all sorts of game it’s a welcome surprise to see one right now about rom-hacking of all things. I’m looking forward to seeing more of this!

I also put up a tab for those who might want to try contributing anything in the future, and one for FAQ, so if you have questions about volunteering or how I make these or anything about the magazine, feel free to ask! I promise I don’t bite!

A romhack fanzine ??? Damn I would have killed to have that when I was a teen
I’m amazed by all the works that must have been put into the magazine, on some aspects it really hit the spot at recreating the feeling of reading those old videogames magazines that existed back in the days where internet wasn’t much of a things ! :star_struck:

The spotlight section is really cool to make me catch up to some cool project I didn’t knew much about ! Also I loved the translated tidbits on Nameless Heroes

And it’s great to hear what the many great hackers of the community have to say about their projects in the interviews ! Again it really feels like those japanese magazine back in the days where developpers from like Nintendo came to talk about the inside of the development of one of their games
