When I try to download a sprite, Firefox thinks it’s malware and won’t let me download it until I go into the settings and turn off the malware warning setting. It won’t even let me download it if I click “go to this page anyway”. I have reported the site as safe to Mozilla and no change yet.
Just wondering if the staff here are aware of this and if anything has been done? Is a new updated repository avaliable with a different link or site that it doesn’t do that with? I had it saved in my bookmarks and was just using that.
I’m pretty sure I tried it on Edge and got the same problem too.
If it’s the same thing I’m thinking of, it’s not actually the repository, It’s the “DownGit” website that the download link redirects to. It’s an entirely separate site that’s used in other places beyond the repo, so there’s not much the staff here could reasonably do. It downloads the file automatically once the page loads so I can see how it could’ve been used maliciously, but the site itself is fine in my experience.
As for Firefox not letting you access it, I’ve found if you press the “proceed anyway” button you have to refresh the page, and then it’ll let you through. Thankfully it also seems to save a cookie of that choice, so you shouldn’t have to do it again until it expires (reload Firefox, wait a while, etc).
Yeah I figure Mozilla just saw that it auto downloads and flagged it without thinking of how it could be used for good things.
I didn’t know about the refreshing thing, thank you.
Yeah it does the same with my brave browser, i’ve chosen to ignore it and it’s worked so far. Also using the FE Fangame Essentials website instead works with no issues. Although using github still has it’s benefits. I usually use both.
I haven’t heard of that site. I might have to try it.
yeah it’s basically the repository in a website, but they each have some pros and cons. i’ll let you see what you think.
I switched to Waterfox the other day to do the direct download and it actually worked. So to those using Firefox, I recommend switching to a fork of Firefox like Waterfox.
