Every time I use FEditor to try to make any text changes, the game crashes whenever the altered text would be displayed onscreen. For instance, whenever I scroll over a unit with a changed name, the screen freezes and I get those high-pitched glitch noises. The only other changes I’ve made to the game are events. I’m hacking FE7.

Try opening the rom in feditor, saving, and closing again. I assume it’s just the text that you modified that causes a crash? That implies the anti-huffman patch didn’t install properly. Open/save/close solves a significant number of issues, though.
